Best Sea Shanty ever written? You can't hold a good man down. Cornwalls' own Pirateers

- A song especially for pirate lovers everywhere. Wickedly haunting but mindblowingly catchy, this olde English Pirate tale is funny yet bitter sweet. Telling the story of shipwrecks, ghost ships, pirate galleons, fierce buccaneer battles & lots & lots of sinkings. Cornwalls' Pirateers, bringing the fun back into music, produced their newest sea shanty song telling the story of one of their very own. Obviously it's a true story.... as a young sailor lad puts to sea only to be caught up in disaster after disaster. But he does good and survives all that Neptune, God, Davy Jones and the Kings Royal Navy has to throw at him in this battle for survival on the seven seas before turning to Pirateering.
Written by the very clever and prolific Freeman and Morris song writing team, the Pirateers are flying. Rocking Cornwall back to its roots.
But still trying to get through a record company door !

Ok, so strictly speaking this isn't a sea shanty, but for f..ks sake just enjoy it for what it is, bloody good song about the sea. I was privileged to sing for nearly ten years with the Sheringam Shantymen and half of our songs weren't exactly shanties, but that didn't seem to bother the audiences we performed to. Keep up the good work boys
Mick Crispin hey
What do you call a one man shanty
Well fucking said sir. Kudos to you.
@@shadowdeslaar Been waiting a year for the answer. No googling either. Shadow?
@@shadowdeslaar I would also like to know pls
Actually you could sing it as a shanty
But here it is just played on land with additional stuff
But anyway it is a great freaking doing nontheles
RIP the age of sailing and treasure
and raiding,murdering,stealing,raping etc.
+Veljko Gnjidic That still happens, just with impoverished religious fundamentalists and corrupt third world governments. I mean at least crime was somewhat cooler before. You know, hats and sabres and all.
+Douglas Mental Health University Institute yeaaah... and now the ones that do the crime made the law and they are law themselves
Veljko Gnjidic Ah yes, I remember the last time Ban Ki-Moon and Obama led raids on outposts and islands for rape and plunder
born too late to explore the world, born too soon to explore the galaxy. born just in time to expLORE **_DANK MEMES_**
That moment when you have this played at you're funeral and you pop out of the coffin with a cutlass in one hand and a mug of rum in the other.
Original American
Pics or it didn't happen! 😉
+Connor Nicholas Oh god that hurts. That emoji hurts.
Gonna use this for my funeral. Love it.
I jumped on RUclips because i was sad and wanted a distraction and well fell down the RUclips rabbit hole. Thanks, for some reason this made me smile.
NOOOO SOMEONE IS HAPPY THATS ILLEGAL
Its not really a sea shanty when you have 12 backing instruments unless they were sailing on the SS Orchestra
I give you Bartholomew Roberts.
ya'll aint heard of calico jack
i actually lol'd
Bartholomew Roberts, "Hold my tea!"
I know this is from two years ago but the SS? There's USS, KMS, HMS, etc, but SS is the Schutzstaffel
I like pirates song 🏴☠️😁🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My favourite song right now. Just oozes adventure.

The house I live in is an old pub conversion and in its time it was known as the Rose & Crown!
This is tremendous - heard it on Blunt Talk and it blew me away. I hope it brings them more fans.
+Ross Liversidge so good. I really want to purchase it but haven't been able to locate.
I love blunt talk
OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!
Great music 🌊⛵🌊💙
7 years down the line and I'm still enjoying this song. Great work, guys
Thank you for this song I will rock out to Pirate music all of the time
Heard this at the end of Blunt Talk episode 3. Well played, on its own merits and in the context of the show.
This song is well worth more than the views it has received, I thank you guys for posting this and it has opened a doorway to the kind of music I wish there was more of. It's brilliant and I hope the Artist continues this work.
Thank you for your support and flattering comment. WE are indeed hard at work creating much more of the same..
The Pirateers Awesome! Can't wait to hear more from you guys.
Found it on the Blunt talk end credits. Awesome song!
+227spartanWarrior "opened a doorway to the kind of music I wish there was more of". That describes it perfectly.
+DRAKO9764 me too!
Just a gorgeous melody.
Love this , I must of listened to it 20 times today
On my playlist as it makes me laugh and smile and dance. Thank you. 😎👍🐶
Saw this in the end credits of "blunt talk", great tune.
This makes me want to buy a sailboat and go out for a weekend with the boys ⛵️
Or a galleon ship. They're my favorite kind of sailing ships! Too bad they don't make them like they used to.
Neat. You guys did a great job!
Pleaae make more music with with this same atmosphere. Im addicted to songs thats have catchy tunes. This is like my 50th time listening to this maybe even more. My 2 month old loves this song. He can't sleep without it playing.
even if it was a sea shanty, you have to remember that drunken sailor is a sea shanty; all other sea shanties are fighting for 2nd
Wellerman
Awesome song, was in the Navy been around a bit heard a lot of songs of the Sea Love it! I would sing this with my men as we swab or Holystone the decks with our prayer books and bibles =]
Heard the shanty on "Walter Blunt" and searched for an hour before finding it. And a fine shanty it is, Laddies.
This is going to be my anthem for 2020
Thank you Blunt Talk for this!
This is incredible! ⚔️🏴☠️🔥
Arr! I love this here ditty!
It's good to take a breath. And this song makes a lad smile. Cheers, fellas!
This is great!! Thanks for the fb add that allowed me to learn of your music.
1:10 That is the HMS Bounty, sunk in 2012 by hurricane Sandy. Two fatalities, one of them descended from Fletcher Christian.
Sank due to poor seamanship; i went aboard bounty in Berkeley many years ago. Dont ship unless you know what your doin!!!
Please put this on spotify's. It is such a good song!
After 9 years I'm still listening to this song. Not a sea shanty but good song.
The best song ever!
I love this song!
heart beating!!!
This is an awesome song! Was running through the TV channels and came across the end scene of the show "Blunt talk" and heard it! HAD to find it! I play in an irish band here in the states and we have to add this one in!
+SomeInfamousGuy I think I might have left this comment after a "few" beers last night, sorry mate. But it is honestly upsetting how overlooked English folk music is around the world, I wish more people would find some interest in it and share it in a similar way they do to Celtic music.
Wow. I only mentioned the fact I pay in an Irish band, not that the song is Irish. Of course the English were seafarers of the highest order, and we do a set of songs, both English and Irish, dedicated to that. Certainly this would fit in. No problem.
John Stag Again, sorry mate. I was drunk and crass.
Sounds like a sea shanty with an Irish feel to it. St. Patrick's Day is approaching.
Great song x
Great song love the bag pipes? ARG ME MATE! TIME TO WALK THE PLANK! SHIVER ME TIMBER'S!
This should be life's anthem
Just awesome
Walter Blunt brought me here and man am I glad I finally found it! Kept finding links to "blow the man down" DAMN! Definitely will grab some albums, I love sea shanties!
Music? Shanty's don't have music. Only the pure Voice god gave humanity!
What’s wrong with a record company who would not want to make an album with this talented group? Listening on my Zik’s and the quality of this recording is superb! Would love to be able to buy this in CD format! Way Oh Pirateers!
All I can think of is all dogs go to heaven. Ya can’t keep a good dog down
A good set of record producers, and song writers.
Je n'avancerais guère sans cette chanson.
I live in Corwall and this is very good 😁😀
You know, all you would really need to sing this at sea is a guitar with a good player and a ship with a strong, hardy crew.
Why a guitar?
The concertina was played a lot by sailors on those wooden ships. I imagine a guitar was liable to warp in the ocean spray.
amazing song
Wonderful!
I like this song
Actually I don't know if this is or not a proper sea chant, still it's one of the best songs I've heard
Love it.
The eyepatch changes eyes!
If I ever got a boat I would sing this sea shanty on it
Terrific sea song and engaging video, but alas it's not actually a sea shanty. It's not in the maritime work song format. That said, it's sung by a great group of musicians that, I think, hold their own against established groups like Great Big Sea.
Randall Benson Yeah, it's tiring when people who are supposed to be into maritime history don't understand the difference 'tween the two.
(Big clue: if there's a tempo change, 'tisn't a work song.)
Great Big Sea can't be matched, but these guys are definitely good.
Dude this is awesome
Love it
I was 2 old tah explore the unknown world and 2 young tah explore the stars
I don't think this is a true sea shanty, but it is undoubtedly a fine song of the sea ;-)Great job and cheers!
My favorite Shanty is "The fish in the sea"
Wellerman is a very good one but bandwagons started making it a trend recently
It's been so long since I wrote this comment I don't even know what "the fish in the sea" is
@@limping5418 but yes wellerman is great
Never had the patience to stick around. "Fuck this for a game of soldiers." I regret it. It's a good shanty. I mean to lift my voice in chorus when I've learnt the words
this song is what i hear when i have acid reflux.
Love this song!
I just love this! I heard it on Blunt Talk this week and am now in love with The Pirateers! Where can I purchase this tune?
Recognized one of the ships in this video. RIP HMS Bounty.
Heres a thing, you can tencichally still sail the seas. Have you ever heard of tall ship cruises, you man a sailing ship and it's the closest were ever gonna get to being sailors.
Is there a live version? Would love to hear to hea that.
Or more bands that sing like this.
The pirate with the red headband looks like Ricky Gervais.
Truly the best sea shanty ever written
While many are correct that this isn't a sea *shanty*, this is an AMAZING sea *song*! I'm listening to this on repeat. :D
This is incredible! Great work!! Best shanty i've heard on RUclips by far. I'd love to be able to use this wonderful song in one of my sailing related videos, i'd give full credit of course. Please let me know if this is ok, once again awesome work.
Yup....I am choosing to believe that this is how pirates and sailors actually sounded way back then !!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂
I LOVE this song! I heard it on the American TV show, "Blunt Talk", and I absolutely love it. Where can I buy a digital copy of this song or the album that it's on? I've looked - and I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere. Am I looking in all the wrong places? Please, let me know how I could purchase it. You guys have a great sound and I've enjoyed all the songs I've listened to so far, on RUclips. Keep making great music & I look forward to hearing more from your band, in the future.
AYE MATES! "FARE WINDS AND CALM SEAS!"
like the binius playing in the background
1:52 assassin's creed black flag lol
Don't know why people have to be so critical/negative. I think this song is wonderful. Most definitely looking forward to your next album. I have purchased several of the songs from your first album from iTunes.
Jennie Stoltz this can be called a song, not Justin Bieber
Can be called a song, can't be called a shanty whatsoever, let alone "the best ever" as the title boldly and wrongfully claims.
Like many people before me mentioned, this is hardly a real sea shanty. BUT, as for me, I must admit it´s great and very catchy song :) I am listening it over and over again. Hope you will make more like this :)
Btw. Do you have also lyrics somewhere? :)
To answer your question, "no". This isn't even a sea shantie. A sea shantie has a very specific definition, and I can't picture hauling on a brace to the rhythm of this song. This is a modern sea song, written with a bunch of modern cliches about the sorts of things that sailors used to do back in the good old days (kind of the lyrical equivalent of a buccaneer with a peg-leg standing on the decks of a pirate ship with a huge Jolly Roger-printed sails hanging so full of shot holes they'd be utter worthless as sails, even if they hadn't split wide open from the weakening of the fabric long before they got to that point). A real sea shanty is something like "Randy Dandy Oh", but actually sung a lot slower than you usually hear it done today (a capstan shanty is not a rousing, fast song, it's a beat-making song, and capstan turning is a slow and steady job).
You are right on all fronts, it's rather embarrassing how you can just throw very closely defined words around out of context to baffle those without knowledge on the subject and get showered with praise for it.
This is more akin to a song sung by some cheaply costumed part time actors in Disneyland, rather than an actual work song.
EDIT: Just looked at their channel, looked at their banner art, almost choked from laughter. That's exactly what they are: Disney-style showmen playing "mean pirrrrrates arrrrr!" which is fine, but don't claim to be the best in anything but "acting a role" (which is fine) and "misrepresenting history" (which is not fine).
Or Leave Her Johhny, classic shanty right there.
Or Roll the Old Chariot Along. These are real working sea shanty songs. Nobody had time to play a fiddle or blow a flute when there's lines to be hauled!
I feel like like a lot of really traditional shanties have a call-and-response element. Everyone's participating and making music with just their voices.
Really? There seemed to to be a very consistent beat, and I have actually used to as a true sea shanty. (I am the captain of a deal sea fishing vessel.)
I need a one hour
This shit slaps harder than my dad did with the belt 💯🙏🏼
The Moths wing
