Sweet Sambhar is served mostly with idli/Dosa. There is a regular sambhar which is served with lunch. Since most of the crowd other than the kannadigas and old timer bangaloreans only eat the breakfast items and not the regular lunch, Sambhar in Bangalore is stereotyped as sweet sambhar. A good role in this is played by the local darshinis who make only one sambhar for both breakfast and lunch
