Yeah the producer seems like a douche. To be fair though, they were probably a pretty difficult band to record live to tape the way they did. Especially considering that DH was pounding the shit out of those drums and probably made the rest of the band difficult to hear in the mix.

Man, back in 1986-1988 - I was SOOOOO obsessed with the DK's. Had all their records..... And had a Paul Newman style Motorcycle leather jacket that I wore with a number of DK buttons and thought I was so cool!. LOL I was 16 years old!!!. Then when I was 22 and in the Australian Army - a mate of mine in my Squadron was really into DK's, Jello, DOA etc. I remember him in the barracks playing that song " You can't throw me to the lions, cause I'm Charlton Heston...." - it was so awesome.... Love the DK's... they were the best back then!!!!
It's such a gift getting to not only hear a totally different take of the whole album, but to get to SEE them play & record it all! Can we get this for Plastic Surgery & the other records? :-D
Saw them in the 80's in a Montreal roller skating rink. They played the entire Frankenchrist album which hadn't yet been released. The encores were Kill The Poor and To Drunk to F**k. The audience was moshing for the entire show but there were no fights or violent activity. On the subway ride home everyone was intellectually discussing the show and were relatively placid.
And here we have the difference between real punk (i.e. this) and all the poser garbage by goofs who just seem to hate everything for no reason... I used to think all punk music sucked, then I heard the Dead Kennedys and was like, "Ahhh. So this is what it's _supposed to_ be like." I mean, sure, eclectic music, by all means... but also some actual caring, and _directed_ anger.
@@michaelm4464 He probably did that because they sued him over the royalty rate (Biafra himself was being paid less than other AT artists along with the rest of the band, allegedly because of an error in accounting). Part of the punitive damages was turning over the rights to the DK catalog which the other band members immediately cashed in on by releasing 'best of' comps, dvds, re-issues and live shows and playing tours with stand-in vocalists at festivals sponsored by Coca-Cola. So yeah, getting sued 12 years after the band dissolved probably made him a little mad.
If they ever watched an episode, they would've realized the show was about good over evil, cooperation, friendship, loyalty, reducing tensions, and many other great concepts. In one episode, it shows the importance of vaccines over religious theatrics. I've always loved the DKs Circle Jerks, but as I got older, I found many of these guys were music snobs and uninformed. I still listen after 40 years.
