Best band ever. Such a shame they don't get along anymore. Kennedys are nothing without jello, and jello hasn't made music as well as he did when he was with them. Such a shame.
Damn its 2021 and this song is just as relevant today as it was back in the 1980's and even 1990's I wish I could remember who loaned me their table back in jr high school or high school, they turned me on to great band.
Jello obviously commands the most attention but Ray is the band. He shines so bright without even trying. Everything about DK's signature sound comes from that man.
Oh yes! This is great! DKs were everything to me as an angry teen...and more now that I am an "adult". Just brilliant, and this particular vid captures their energy, humour and power perfectly. It blew my mind....then again, that is what Jello does for a living...
Saw them in Atlanta in 1982. I was pretty close to the stage but had to move back to stay alive. I was 32 that year. Sat around outside the 688 Club for a while just listening to the conversation. The most outrageously-dressed "punks" were worried about their math test on the following Monday. The more dangerous they looked, the wimpier they generally were. Hilarious.
There was and still is a lot of bad punk bands but the Dead Kennedys were different. Their song writing was way better than most punk bands. They weren't afraid of TRYING to sound good, different and not exactly follow the punk formula. The way they looked and acted made their music better as well. They didn't have to be macho assholes in order to get their point across. It must have been a breath of fresh air back then, especially with all the macho looking guys in the audience.
Haha I remember I bought a VHS of this set from a dude selling out of a hatchback in Moosic, Pa after a Memphiskapheles show. Good times, and this DK show was mindblowing.
@thepurepunk He's actually telling them to turn the red lights (the one he's pointing to) "DOWN!". Throughout that whole show, they just kept turning those things on and he's baking on stage. Jello, a sweaty mess near the end, finally says during their encore "OK, this show's going to end right now if you don't turn those goddamned microwave lights off".
It is. In the last few months I've been to two stage diving shows, Bouncing Souls and Jello the other night. The wildest I've ever seen was Rancid with the Adolescents doing the diving...nucking futs.
