    Lutron’s biggest draw for me is just how solid and stable it has been. In the years I’ve had it installed, there has not been a single moment that it went offline. I’m sure Eve’s offering is great, but the stability is where it really matters for me where these very basic functionality is concerned - does this knock Lutron off that throne? Maybe, but I’ll pay the premium to never have to find out that that might not be the case. 😊

      “This is where Eve Switch is better than Lutron” isn’t in my view saying Lutron has been dethroned. But there are things about this switch I like better than Lutron switches like the touch pad design. I still love my Lutron switches and more often than not I recommend their switches.

      Agree 100%. Love my Lutron and Philips Hue for the same reason. While they might not do magic tricks, they work.
      Kudos to Eve, though. I’ll pass for now.

    I prefer the Jasco/GE Enbrighten smart switches as they're not as deep and you can swap the load and line connections (like a regular mechanical switch) and the switch will still operate correctly. Of course, the Enbrighten are not matter/thread yet. They are z-wave or Zigbee - which is fine for me since I connect them to a Hubitat hub and do my automations there with connections to HomeKit and Alexa for manual and voice command control. I want to be able to maintain control of devices through both Alexa and Apple Home, while handling automations through a hub so the automations will continue to work when there is an Internet failure.

    Zigbee-A is great. It would be nice if we didnt have to replace all the Zigbee stuff we have now to make the "thread" network stable. :-) Can't wait for Eve to migrate these to MATTER. Smart switch size has been an issue for 50 years.

    I love this switch is nearly perfect, I have 7 already installed in my hose as long with some Eve sensor…. Y replace all switches around my house with 7 Eve switch, some ORVIVO switches ( those are amazing) but unfortunately don’t support apple HomeKit, some LIVOLO touch switch ( I love those too ) but they aren’t smart, I like it because they are touch too,

    • @morells09

      Yes dumb bulbs would be required as the switch has no way of communicating with smart bulbs directly

    Hi Eric, does any company that you know of, make a motion detection capable switch or sensor that works with HomeKit and can be used to activate a bathroom exhaust fan? Right now I use a Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch (KS2000MP2) that does NOT work with HomeKit. It is not very user friendly but I was able to set a timer that works with the motion activation. Thank you in advance for any information/suggestions you might have.

    • @rangerrecon
      @rangerrecon Год назад +1

      There are motion sensors like the Eve Motion Sensor that integrate directly with Homekit. It is $50 with Thread and Matter support. If you don't need automation, you could use a regular motion sensing switch from a hardware store that goes in place of a traditional switch. I use these in my pantry and walk-in closets as I always want the lights to go on (they can easily work a fan instead as they are relay-output switches) and putting in a smart switch, motion sensor, and then programming an automation between them is more costly and is just overkill. These basic motion sensing switches only cost around $15 - $20.

    • @EricWelander
      @EricWelander  Год назад

      I don’t think so. I’ve started playing with Hubitat myself recently. My point in this video was not to say that Eve switches are categorically better than Lutron, but they have some unique features that are ahead of Lutron in certain areas. It sounds like for a setup like yours I would stick with Lutron for the consistency and integrations.

    I don't get the rave around the pricey Lutron - I bought it back in 2010 but quickly returned it when I didn't see any justifiable benefit for the price. I have used WiFi switches from treat life and Kasa for years with zero issues and they even look like regular switches so you won't even know it is a smart switch. I'd be curious to try out the Eve Switches

      That is exactly where the Eve light switch wins out, price, and if you are all in on thread/matter and enjoy open ecosystems (i.e. anything outside of Lutron’s proprietary hub) that is another big plus

  • @morells09
    @morells09 Год назад +2

    I do think this is a better option than Lutron’s non-dimmable Claro switch especially when you consider cost and thread capabilities (I also love how Lutron still can’t include any of their expensive wall plates with their expensive light switches) but the moment you need a dimmer switch that works with HomeKit you’re toast
