I clicked to get the info on Brilliant, but hearing your great news on the diagnosis was so uplifting to hear. Just wanted to drop a note to say that and I also subscribed.
Thanks for the note & thanks for subscribing. I appreciate the support very much.
Once again bringing truth to the masses (even if you take some heat for it)….and also encouragement for others in their cancer journey. Best news ever! It brings a smile whenever I think of it! ❤
Thanks Ma. 😊❤️
George congratulations on the awesome news. I am glad that your health is doing better and from my family to yours. My prayers are always with you.
Thank you! I appreciate your continued support very much. 😊🙏🏻
So glad to hear your great health update! Bravo! (The Brilliant info was good too, but I never had any so wasn't as important as your health!)
🙏🏻❤️
You are truly blessed! Congratulations on your continued NED.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for the video! I’ve been having the exact same issues with my controllers. They worked great for some time and then suddenly go offline nearly daily. They are too expensive for this to continue.
I also agree with Lutron - they are rock solid. Brilliant just seemed so cool!!!
Congratulations on the health update!
Yeah, it’s really disappointing. Had great success with them for years. The last 12 months or so, it’s all gone to crap. Not sure what the heck happened. Lutron has always been rock-solid indeed.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Damn that's so upsetting lol, I was just going to buy me one then hear this
We just found out we’re moving to a new place in June. I still have all my Brilliant stuff sitting in a tote. I’m debating on whether or not I should give them another try when we move. Surely they’ve had a few firmware updates since I used them last.
So sad to hear this, but I'm not really surprised. I've been suspicious of these switches ever since they came out. They seemed too good to be true. Congrats on the health update! Amazing!
Just a bummer because they were so great for so long. I’m not sure what the heck happened.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I am glad you are recovering well!!
🙏🏻❤️
The hammer 🔨! I am so glad you are feeling better. I wish you the best. With peace ☮️ and love ❤️! You rock 🪨!
Thanks man. You’re one of those OGs I speak of. I really appreciate the continued support. 🙏🏻😊
@@GeorgeLangabeerthanks man!
I was going to get Brilliant for Christmas. I think I might still try it but only with one switch. I currently use Lutron mostly throughout my home! Great video and glad to see you are doing well!!
I hope you have better luck than I did! Lutron is always rock-solid. Thank you!
Great news on the health front, disappointing to hear about your experiences with Brilliant lately, you’ve always had the most of their panels of anyone I know! Lutron has been solid for us
I’m not sure what’s happened. Had great luck with them for years. But the last 12 months with them have been a rollercoaster, now ending in disaster.
First time watching you. I was thinking to upgrade my Lutron to brilliant but after your videos I’ve realized that Lutron is the way to go. Thank you. Also, Kudos to your health. I’m sure it’s a scary journey. I’m a bilateral lower limb amputee myself d/t traumatic accident and can’t imagine what you’ve gone through. Congratulations on the good news.
Sorry to hear about your accident. Sounds like you’re a Badass Warrior yourself. I bet you’re an inspiration to many. Thanks for sharing & thanks for the congrats. 🙏🏻❤️
thanks for the heads up. I respect your honesty and that you are not a sell out like these other content creators looking to make a quick buck on a product that isnt worth it.
You’re one of those OGs I mention in this video. So thank you for the continued support and I very much appreciate this comment. 😊🙏🏻
@@GeorgeLangabeer always, no problem! 💯🤘🏻
I was waiting for BF to buy some Brilliants, even checked out your reviews over the past days, now I changed my mind for Lutron. Thank you so much for bringing us such a great content and I'm glad you're healthy again, one step at a time. Fly baby fly! I ('m waiting for your review of Philips Hue cameras.) God bless you!
You’re welcome and thank you very much for the kind words and continued support. ❤️🙏🏻
Ps….testing the hue cameras as we speak!
Glad to hear your good news!
🙏🏻❤️
Congrats on beating cancer! I’m going through the same brilliant issues. Controller-wise i have a 4gang, 2 gang, and three 1 gangs and 3 switches. They all go offline randomly and don’t come back online for hours. You can tell just by looking bc they will display your pictures but no date/time and of course scenes and sliders don’t work when offline. So frustrating! After watching your vid I’m realizing how my connectivity issue is not an isolated incident & just put mine all up on sale in Facebook marketplace bc brilliant couldn’t fix. Also had tried doing IoT network just for the switches and didn’t work. You are the only person posting content on this issue that I think is impacting several users. Thank you for making the video.
Thanks for the congrats and thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear you're having the same issues I did. I had a feeling I wasn't alone in this. I really hope they can figure out their issues.
Get Unifi. View and manage your network easily. I like to have a Wi-Fi access point in almost every room and the transmit power set to "low". No dropouts.
Congratulations on the great health news!
In less important news one of my installs has over 100 switch points
with 12 control panels (mostly 4 gang) and the rest brilliant dimmers.
I also have 10 wifi access points and zero issues. Orbi is not the answer
it is likely the problem.
Does lutron show the album cover of the music playing
in the room like brilliant/Sonos does? Music controls?
Live long and prosper and thank you to your amazing doctors.
Great news on the health update George - Congrats! 🙏🏻 We, luckily it seems, can't use Brilliant in my country as they seemed to only support US based voltages, but I would definitely have given them a try had they been available at the time. Lutron is also very expensive here, but they seem to be the gold standard for HomeKit integrated switches with rock solid reliability. They might not look as premium as the Brilliants, but they do work flawlessly. The last thing any of us home tech fans need, is a low wife acceptance factor (WAF) - you spend that amount of money on a switch that does not work when it needs to - you're in trouble 🤣
lol…Ain’t that the truth! 😝
I don't know if I can handle this break up lol granted I am 100% Lutron and glad to have you on the Lutron team; but the real story is your health and glad you are doing well!!!
😝 Thank you!
Excellent news george 🙏
🙏🏻😊
I was contemplating for a year now to test out brilliant. This video helped with that decision.
Wish I had better news for you.
Congratulations & I am truly happy for you. Wishing you continued positive results.
My issue with Brilliant is the connection. I’ve had it since 22 & for the past few months it’s been such an inconvenience with the connection going out. I have a baby & usually like to be able to just turn on the light from my phone.
I like that Lutron does not require WiFi.
Which ones 1/2/3 switch panels? Because I would prefer to just switch as well.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Sorry to hear you’re having some of the same issues. They really need to get their act together. It’s such a shame too, because they were flawless for so many years.
Lutron is always a safe bet.
Congratulations. The battle is real..I also had stage 4 colon cancer and stage 2 liver cancer ..got it working near 911 ground zero. I'm also clear. Thank god for medical attention. As for the Brilliant, you hit the nail on the head. One week it worked fine.. there are times there are missing fans..garage door ..and locks that disappear...week
Congrats on also being clear. The battle is real indeed. Thank you for sharing. Sorry to hear you’re having some of the same experiences with Brilliant. So much money to spend on something that doesn’t work as it should.
Thanks for the review... you just saved me $$$!
You’re welcome! Happy to help 😬
Blessings 🙌
Thanks!
Hallelujah brother! The brilliant stuff looks great but when it comes to smart home I’ll take function over looks.
They had the function for so long. I’m not sure what the heck happened.
First of all congratulations on your health journey!!!
I’ll take the brilliant off you🙏🏾 if you want to
Thanks! lol. Sorry, I’m keeping them…for now.
Thanks for the reply
Want to be like you
Very inspirational
@KINGK0928 Very kind of you to say.
Congratulations on your health.
Im in the same boat with the brilliant switches. Thousands spent, and im at the point of changing them all. Exactly
Which switches did you upgrade to, i am in need of a better alternative.
Thank you! Sorry to hear you're having the same issues. It definitely sucks to spend that much on something that doesn't work like it should. I went all Lutron.
Great news on your health! Been switching out my smart Leviton switches to Lutron and couldn’t be happier with them. Great video!
Lutron is always rock-solid.
Dude! Glad to see this update. We blew up our controller changing out a light fixture (dropped the neutral from the controller apparently in the process) and just bricked the computer. And suddenly had a room full of switches that did nothing. I got lucky in that we hadn’t switched the whole house out AND that I had a Lutron kit ready to go but yeeesh, what a nightmare. $1000 up in literal smoke.
Ahhh just got to the update at the end what a miracle! I’m so happy for you and your family!!!
Damn, that sucks. Lutron saves the day yet again. 😬
Thank you. Life is good. 😊🙏🏻
Congratulations bro
Thank you!
Lutron Caseta is the Gold Standard. Bar none. I looked at Brilliant and decided against them even before this video. Everything in my house is Lutron Caseta and my Wife and I love it and I never have any issues with it. My wife loves that they just work. Great WAF. Glad to see that you were able to get the Lutron Caseta and that they are rock solid for you.
Also, love the news on your health and that you didn't have to have the second MRI.
I 100% agree. Lutron has been there for me in few different periods in my SmartHome journey. They never let me down.
Yes! All very good news!
Lutron is a great recommendation thanks just learning the news today that Brilliant is out of business. Brilliant gave us more than Lutron offers. What do you recommend for intercom and security..plus live view camera and the photo slide show. Is there anything else that can give everything we are used to having with brilliant?
Where did you see they are out of business? I have seen everything on their website is “out of stock” & thought that was weird. So I have been curious as to why.
I have been experiencing issues 1-3 as well. It’s highly annoying - I tried with support and they have no idea. I did the same, dedicated 2.4Ghz network just for these devices…ugh.
Sorry to hear you’re having some of the same. It’s really frustrating. Especially after spending so much money. Ugh indeed.
Same exact experience over here on my end, the system seems so glitchy, even when installed perfectly, awesome idea but after my experience, not worth the headache
They used to be so flawless. Not sure what the heck happened.
I am looking forward to Apple releasing a first party HomeKit controller that can be wall or fridge mounted.
You and me both!
Congratulations on your health news, George! Hey any chance you might be selling the Brilliant devices? Im using Google and not Apple :)
Thank you! 🙏🏻❤️
No, I’m keeping them for now. I still have hopes they figure out their issues & I can give them another try someday.
@@GeorgeLangabeer No worries, George! Im looking for hardware that will allow for camera surveillance, wifi distribution, doorbell camera access. Basic stuff....not to the extent that some other RUclipsrs are showcasing (ahem, Smart Home Solver). At some point too much automation is addressing problems that dont exist and adding too much complexity that will eventually fail :(
I’ve had the exact same issues with my Brilliant setup (26 key pads) along with many other challenges, I’m beyond frustrated and disappointed. Their API integration is very poor - the MTBFs are at unacceptable levels. 👎
Sorry to hear that. Yeah, it’s sad. It hasn’t always been like this. For years they were 100% reliable. Wish I knew what happened…wish they knew what happened.
Sounds like you had an IP lease issues with your dynamic host. I'd you use fixed IPs with a forced mac address designation to fix the problem
Great suggestion, but I was already thinking along those lines & tried that. Unfortunately, it didn’t solve the problem.
The products are AWESOME!!! I have no issues with brilliant. They are BRILLIANT!!!!
lol. Glad to hear you haven’t had the same experiences. Once upon a time I loved them. They worked great for me for many years. But the last 12 months they have gone downhill big time.
I’m curious as to how many Brilliant controls you have? As I try to narrow down the issues I was having, I’m wondering if I just had too many going at once.
I'd love to pick up a few of the touch screens!
I’m keeping them until Brilliant gets their act together.
@@GeorgeLangabeer sounds like a plan! Let's hope they do. Seems like getting off the apple band wagon would also be a solution worth considering....they notoriously don't play well with others.
2:41 Wow that blows! Might be more of an crApple issue tbh. Thread would be great. I recently switched everything over to Z-Wave and am absolutely loving it. Cant wait for the tons of incredible WiFi devices to use more localized network protocols. Thread might be the one to make it mainstream and change the ever increasing congestion to mesh networking. One day.
One day indeed. 🙏🏻
Congrats on the health. Really appreciate this video, but I’m super baffled by your troubles. I have 3 brilliant panels and 3 Brilliant dimmer switches and it’s all been flawless for 2 years. I use HomeKit and Google assistant and have never had issues adding devices or using Siri. I also have Brilliant integrating with my kasa switches, Hue bulbs, Honeywell thermostat, roller shades via SmartThings, Yale smart lock and nest doorbell camera. I also have an Orbi router and my internet is actually TERRIBLE but still haven’t ever encountered issues like this. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way. You’re probably on to something regarding too many Brilliant devices on the network. Either way, It really is a bummer you had to deal with this!
Yeah, I have no doubt the amount of controls I had was one of the key issues, but I’m not the type of person to mix n match switches. I want them all one brand.
I'm a little sad, George. They are good reasons to leave Brilliant. Take care!
Brilliant wise, I’m a little sad too! Health wise, I’m happy beyond all recognition. 😊
I bought the house with couple Lutron installed by the builder already. I like the idea initially but found 1. The camera on it is so bad…the resolution, the performance under low light…
2. It is so expensive to replace all existing switches with Brilliant control (guess that is why the builder only installed three)…so I ended up using what I used to => Lutron. Still not cheap but definitely way cheaper than Brilliant.
3. Can’t get Brilliant to work with Lutron smart dimmer on a 3 way setup so I ended up removing Brilliant (all my switches are Lutron and it looks so bad if I have one Brilliant Switch in the middle)
The camera on a Brilliant Control is terrible and you're right, especially at night. But I never used my Brilliant Controls for the camera. I used them for everything else. I hope they can figure out their issues, because until recently, I absolutely loved them.....Lutron is King. The most reliable out there by far.
Curious what you're doing with all that old gear? Would you consider selling it? Thanks!
I’m keeping it…for now. Waiting for them to figure out their issues.
Congratulations Brother!!! 🎊👏😁 FK Cancer 🤬🤬
One Survivor to another, keep Living, keep Fighting and once you get past that Five year mark you can “Ring that Bell Hard”!!!
Oh, and thanks for the update on “Brilliance” I was thinking about getting some of those Nice Looking Displays, you helped me Dodge that Bullet. 👍🙏😉
Thank you 🙏🏻❤️
It’s weird to me that they chose to use 2.4Ghz rather than Zigbee or Z-Wave. Typically you see that with lower cost products meant for the masses to easily adopt smart home technology because it’s so simple to just connect to your existing WiFi. But there are known issues and challenges with this approach. 2.4Ghz can be very chatty for one. If you live in an apartment for example, there’s a good chance there’s dozens, even hundreds of 2.4ghz signals in range. Then there’s the variables with peoples home WiFi. It’s inevitable that people will have problems. Reliability and stability are not good on 2.4ghz WiFi. It can be intimidating for people to adopt a smart things hub, but people willing to dump premium prices on the best smart home devices probably won’t mind if it means stability and reliability. It’s not like the hubs cost a tons of money.
I 100% agree with all the above.
I have a brilliant setup with a 3 way controller + 10 single switches. I don't use apple home, but rely extensively on the iOS app. I run a Unifi network, and the one thing that has been a real problem over the last 6 months is the controller being unreachable in the app. It just goes offline in the mobile app, and nothing fixes it other than it just randomly becomes available again. I just submitted a ticket with them and will see where that goes. They were working great for about 8 months, so I suspect either someone with an iOS change, a Brilliant change, or a Unifi change has something to do with it.
That’s one of the same issues I had with several of my controllers. Good luck to you. I talked to several people at Brilliant & they were all stumped.
Hi George my Brilliant has been working flawlessly for 2 years now. I know I commented before. I did have trouble with a little bit with other smart home product swith siri. Now one thing I did was turn off thread on my router ( EERO) wireless network. I left siri handle the thread portion of my network and things are working great. I am thinking having 2 thread boarder routers was causing me issues. Not sure if I am not the right path or not but not sure if having 2 different thread boarder routers can cause issues.
Hello! Thanks for sharing. Glad you’re not having the same issues I had. I loved Brilliant for so long, I hated giving up on them, but I had no choice. You’re not the first to say that about the thread boarder routers. So that’s interesting for you to say. Definitely sounds like you could be on to something there.
I’m curious…how many Brilliants do you have? Because I really wonder if my problem was the amount of controls I had operating at one time…even though it shouldn’t matter. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would to switch out every switch to have everything match.
@@GeorgeLangabeer George I have 2 single controllers 17 switches and 5 plugs
@bagrubmeister4973 That’s a pretty decent amount. Especially since I find the switches to be the biggest culprit. No issues?
@bagrubmeister4973 Your amount of controllers would explain how you’ve avoided the HomeKit issues. 2 was never a problem for me. It was when I’d have more than 5 that I started running into issues….& the controllers manage the single switches…
Yeap can’t get it to connect to WiFi after it dropped it. 2.4 everything. Still error now it’s just a fancy light switch with a screen that operates like every basic switch 🤦🏻♂️
Yep…To make it worse, appears they just went out of business. 😬

oh great… definitely wish i saw this video and saw your response sooner lol. Great news on your health! Hope’s you a speedy recovery and all stays well! My co worker is going through it and isn’t very happy cooped up under constant care.
Sorry to see that about your co-worker. This disease is a beast. I hope they can fight through it.
Where did you get the shelves ?
A big furniture store we have here. Nebraska Furniture Mart.
Everything I have that is brilliant works fine. The WiFi mesh network is very important to maintain connectivity.
Yeah, I’ve got the best of the best mesh network wise & still have the issues.
Hard to understand what the problems could be other than a switch to promote Lutron now. Not saying you are but it does come across as such.
@@jjmarketing7776 Lol. I have THOUSANDS of dollars of my own money wrapped up in Brilliant. I’ve done countless videos promoting Brilliant…Any person that thinks I switched to Lutron just to promote them instead, is a crazy person. lol
I gave Brilliant the benefit of the doubt for long enough. And if you look in the comments of my Brilliant videos, I’m not the only one with these issues. Several people at Brilliant acknowledged these issues to me directly. All very disappointing.
Lutron just works. Bottom line. If I was “promoting them” I’d be using their newest models. If you look at my smart home tours, I’m using older stuff. So….
@@jjmarketing7776 Lutron works flawlessly, but feature wise anything they offer is lame compared to Brilliant. So trust me, I’d much rather have Brilliant…just has to work.
@@GeorgeLangabeer Lutron is lame so that’s what was so confusing. I also have around 5or6k work of brilliant products. My largest issues were the switches going offline or being bad out of the boxes. I did get replacements for them and then I installed control’s strategically around my property to increase its mesh network. Checking each device to see its signal/reception as I was installing them and pointing them to different/closer controls.
I'm in the same situation.. I bought these 2 years ago and still have it all in my house due to the fact I spent so much on these. They don't work most of the time. I remove the face plate practically 3/4 of what's in my house just to use the switch on off only. I have about 30 switches and spent $12k on all switches. I do not recommend Brilliant as well. They are paper weight in my opinion.
Yep. You feel my pain. Sorry to hear we’re in the same boat. 😬
How much for a 2 switch are you selling thanks.
I’m not selling them. I’m holding onto them in case they figure out their issues someday.
I just replaced my last Lutron switch. Talking about being problems... Nothing worked, every time I had a power blink, it broke, Siri? Hah.
Really? That would make you the first person that I’ve ever encountered that’s had a problem with Lutron.
Can I have one of your brilliant? I can pay
The single screen
I’m keeping them hoping they’ll eventually figure out their issues someday.
🙏🏾🙏🏾
So you selling them?
No, I’m keeping them hoping they figure out their issues.
I’ll take them if your hands 😂
Great news about your health
😂
Are you planning to sell any of the brilliant home control?
I am not. I’m hoping they can figure out their issues & I can give them another try someday.
@@GeorgeLangabeer have you tried out the Orvibo switch with matter?
@shellogee I have not. Not yet anyway.
I would love it if Brilliant switches either had a hub like Lutron or if they used Ethernet instead of WiFi.
I agree. That would be fantastic.
I have cassette, and no one comes close to lutron.
They are the best
some of these problems all kick back to Apple, not Brilliant... HomeKit, Siri are all a mess regardless of what you use them with. kinda sucks
It’s actually all 100% Brilliant. They told me as much.
This all sounds like an Apple problem, not a Brilliant issue? Netgear Orbi is _well known_ to have terrible firmware and horrible IoT integration.
It’s 100% a Brilliant problem (confirmed by Brilliant).
🦄❤️😍🦊
❤️
I’m pretty sure it’s of an apple HomeKit issue
The one thing Brilliant has confirmed to me is that it is an issue on their end, not Apple’s. For some reason some of their controllers come out of the box with a faulty “HomeKit Token” and Brilliant has to reset it on their end.
First off… yeah Brilliant is trash. I didn’t have as good an experience as you. They were confrontational and non-responsive. Too bad because they had a ton of potential.
That said, congratulations on the cancer update!
Brilliant is going out of business. They are looking for a buyer, but it’s not looking good.
Thank you!
We spent a lot - and reached out to outfit a couple dozen properties - no response. Their demise is surprising to nobody. Too bad.
$2300 Orbi router? Wat? Yikes.
Yikes is right. 😬
It’s been worth every penny though.
Brilliant simply cant run their own business and their support in my experience is terrible. My $450 smart switch simply died and will not turn on or connect to the network. Support doesnt respond.
Today, i see Brilliant is trying to find a buyer for their business. When a business is the one seeking a purchase, you KNOW theyre a failure. Im not happy.
Yes, it all sucks. But I'm more worried about the 70 people that are losing their jobs.
@@GeorgeLangabeer while thats a valid point, but its a different issue. Those employees have a far better chance of finding a new job than I have of getting $450 back for a product that doesnt work. No one would be in this situation if they continued selling products that worked. I hate to poopoo on them given how much time and research I put into buying this type of product but it stings far worse when I had a feeling this would happen. Theres more to my story (wife) but ive over extended my "what about me" moaning.
Well, if it makes you feel better I still have over $4000 sitting here in Brilliant Controls and switches and I was keeping it all in case they figured out their issues. Now, it’s just $4000 down the drain.
But I’m still more worried about the 70 people losing their jobs.
If you are wanting to get rid of some Brilliance gear, let me know! I'll take it off your hands!
lol. I’m going to keep them…for now.
+1 I will buy the rest!
Can I buy them from you lol
lol. I’m going to hold on to them in case they figure their stuff out.
Apple is the issue.....they want to do their own thing instead playing nicely with the industry.
My HomeKit issues with these Controls are the least of my concerns. My main issues are 100% Brilliant related.
First
lol. Nice!
I'll buy em.. sale em to me
I’m keeping them…for now.
Sell them to me second hand
I’ll be keeping them just I case they figure out their issues.
too many COMMAND HUBS. you only need one or two of those in a house... look at it like an army: lots of soldiers one SOC, but if you make everything a command center? lol. your communication will be FUBAR
Yeah, if you think I just do one of anything, you haven’t watched my channel enough. With me, GO BIG OR GO HOME. 😋
Your problem is Apple home 😂😂😂Apple has the worst assistant… everyone knows that.
Apple Home is by no means perfect, but these problems are all 100% on Brilliant.
what i learned from this video..is dont use applehome. alexa and google are more widespread and better supported.
I’ll take privacy & quality over quantity & stick with Apple Home.
