That was my thought also. There can be a draft through electrical boxes and where pipes go through walls. Some people put a precut insulation piece under the switch or outlet covers

If the internet is down, do the lights still work by using the physical touch sliders?

I'm guessing you would have to use that test button under the panel in that circumstance

The foam is to insulate from drafts. Kind of weird they put it on an interior wall

Thank you for that insight. It is a modular home and that’s the wall where the two sections come together, so that makes sense now. 🙂

If I don't hard wire the second dimmer switch, can I use it to control other devices? Lamps on a dimmer plug for example? I am looking for something I can put over a 2 gang box that I am eliminating one of my switches in and this would be perfect.

You can use it but you have to make sure you wire it hot or it will not work or even boot up.

I'm confused - was there a "dead" switch in that box? Strange!

Here's the thing that's kept me from buying this because I cand seem to find a good answer and maybe you can help.
Almost every light in my house is a phillips hue smart light, I see what this system is doing with the wiring that is basically turning your existing dumb lights into smart lights. -I don't want this functionality for the hues, they should always have 100% power.
I'm guessing that I could connect all the wires together in the gang box and use one of the extra wires it comes with to splice off of that and power the hub. Then I'd just assign the sliders to my hue lights instead of having them switch and dim the actual connections on the back of the unit?
    Thanks so much in advance.
