Eagle Gorge Natural Monument

At the edge of Dedoplistkaro lies Eagle gorge. It is a well known area for big bird watching. We camped at a beautiful spot. We watched the birds from the top of the cliff. We also hiked part of the gorge - until we needed to traverse a section of slippery rocks guided by a rope only. That’s where we turned around. We really enjoyed it. We met a group of Dutch students there who were “snake hunting” in Georgia. They showed us the small snake they found on the slope leading to the gorge. We actually came back to this site a number of times because of its beauty/convenience. The Vashlovani Visitors Centre is there, where the very friendly Nino can arrange permits and arrange overnight trips into the park (large campers are not allowed on the routes in the Vashlovani park itself). We also found out that Teo and her mother of Teo’s Cottages (which is on the road leading to the Gorge) do very nice dinners and breakfasts in their garden.
