Part 1 of our 4x4 Georgia road trip mini-series. We hired a UAZ Buhanka campervan (our dream van ever since Mongolia • 7 Days In The Gobi, Mo... !) in Tbilisi and spent 2 weeks exploring some remote regions of Georgia in October.
First up is spectacular Vashlovani National Park, home to an amazing variety of landscapes reminiscent of the wadis of Oman, the mountains of Upper Mustang, the deserts of Iran, and the savanna of East Africa. In this video we visit Dedoplistskaro, Pantishara Canyon, Bear Canyon, Mijniskure, and Shavi Mta (Black Mountain) over 4 days.

Love the Bukhanka. Seriously considering getting one. My youngest got a trip in one in her mum's tummy when the ambulance came to pick my wife up to take her to the maternity ward. Small town Lithuania ambulances were Bukhankas then.

Thank you for visiting my country, enjoy your stay and all of its beauty! The now forgotten Buhankas can be encountered in the many many villages and rural areas of Tbilisi. Some of them are owned by the GWP, yet it’s still really jarring to see one once in a while.
P.S: If you more authentic Georgian cuisine, I suggest you visit the restaurant “Bulachauri” in Tbilisi or towards Kazbegi. Love from the Didube district!

Woooow.. that was a bumpy ride you had there (bumpy in every sense). These are the times having a good partner with you is helpful, because you can support each other in the bad, scary moments. But as long as you have food and wine (i mean water! haha), things can't be that bad. Those views though are amazing and the drone shots.. yes! I always enjoy watching your adventures.

Thanks for watching, Steven (even when you don't enjoy the landscape!). The scenery is certainly a far cry from the Scottish Highlands, but we find it very beautiful in its own way. And I have to admit, I adore the van! I guess it's a case of each to their own, there's no right or wrong, just a difference of opinion. Most of our future videos from Georgia will be from the mountains and lakes of the Greater Caucasus, an entirely different landscape to this southeastern part of the country. I hope you'll enjoy that scenery more! Thanks for sticking with it! Cheers, Kim

I guess that's because you are a city person, not used to tranquility in remote areas. I understand FULLY why people go to such places. In fact, I was inspired by this video to put Georgia on my bucket list with Kazachstan and Kyrgystan. And the heap they are driving in? Well, I have one for myself and it is tough as old nails, ready to go anywhere, any weather, any terrain, any whatever.

@@Tillerman56 Hi, Actually I am not a city person at heart having been brought up in rural Shropshire in beautiful countryside. My grandparents are from Uist in Scotland and I have travelled extensively throughout the world solo on a motorcycle. Some people travel just to say they have been there and enjoy the challenge of a few hardships on the way but as the saying goes: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As to the vehicle it looks like the one and only choice in that region but I still prefer my old Land Rover for tackling rough terrain. Best wishes and good luck with your trip.
