Yeah your spot heating is good.To make it easy use a candle or like me I use a bic cigarette lighter.It ain't traditional but is quick.I don't have rivercane but Phragmites reed I think looking what you are doing is similar. Good video Old school Richie
The earth is smoother than a marble....as it relates to overall size. The earth is 23ish thousand miles around at the equator.....meaning it's 8ish thousand miles thick.....we use 2 miles of atmosphere in that size.....when someone tells you climate change is BS....tell them that. Our area of livability is actually quite small......and the earth is actually quite smooth overall.
