+Po Russki The jag v8 is a great engine. But it sounds like it's so fake. Not even just the crackles, the v6 has them too. It just sounds like they were trying too hard to make it sound evil. The v6 sounds more alive. But that's my two cents. Not facts.
Yeah agreed. I have an XKR. Its basically the same V8 engine but it sounds much different/better since Jag made it before they started going overboard on the whole fake sound thing.
Dougie's return on investment is probably epic for these, shit camera, shit microphone, doesn't ever hire someone to actually professionally film the reviews yet still gets millions of views and suscribers for that ad-money. Glorious!
The v8 costs a fortune as well. I was actually surprised with how well this v6 sounded. It is fake though, like artificially tuned and synthesised. Not like a straight 6 from say a bmw e46 m3.
Truthfully, they do sound a bit Supra-esque when fitted with an aftermarket muffler. Mine has the stock exhaust and is very muted, but it has a thrumming sound/feel around 3000 RPM not unlike a Cummins. I much prefer the sounds my 2010 Jaguar XKR makes, though.
Your current content is excellent but there was a quirkiness in those olders reviews that puts a smile on my face. Thank you for all those years of passionate reviews !
It's "special" because almost no-one is making a manual gearbox anything anymore - not just for or in America. Please don't lump every American together - most real enthusiasts here would like to see manuals available in everything - so blame the manufacturers - not us. It's just easier to only offer one gearbox when you're trying to rationalize production and cut costs and meet the emission requirements. Flappy Paddles don't count (in my opinion). I don't like video games, I like actual cars with three actual pedals. So, by the way, do most of my American car-enthusiasts friends. Yes, we all know sequential boxes are faster, don't miss shifts, blah, blah, blah. But real enthusiasts know how to heel and toe and double-clutch, and being able to do so is really, really satisfying. Oh, and it sounds cool when you do it too.
Missed shifts mostly tend to be a problem of German levers, as they use rubber for some mechanical parts that have to be made of metal. I have driven a lot of different cars with manual transmission, but only the German ones gave me serious trouble with the lever. Guess that's why they so fanatically promote sequential transmissions instead. On the other hand there are Italian, British and some Japanese levers that seem almost unable to miss a shift. There is some difference between rubber and metal, you know...
After spending 30 years in England and another 25 years in the US, I have to say stick shifts are stupid most times. If you have a daily driver with a stick, you are going to waste your time in stop & go traffic, or slow & go on the freeway, jumping back & forth, getting tired of all the shifts. My last stick shift was a 1999 C-5 Corvette and it was a pain in the ass, as a daily driver. Since then I have wondered why I bothered. I can imagine people in specific situations benefiting from a stick. But for 95%, don't bother.
@@masterdk7921 It is British. It might be funded by a foreign company, but where are the cars designed, manufactured and tested? England. A brand being purchased by another brand doesn't change it's heritage or the country it's affiliated, unless it drastically changes.

+CUZC0M thanks for calling me a prick when I was trying to leave constructive criticism, but that's besides the point. The in car shots sound a little washed out and not clear, so he could get another WIRELESS mic
1. That's a sexy car. 2. Manuals will never die; the dual-clutch flappy paddles may outperform them, but true enthusiasts will always want a stick shift. 3. That's a sexy car. 4. Why don't they offer the manual in the 8-cylinder version? See 2. 5. That's a sexy car.
GodZirraAnim Only recently have automatics begun to outperform manuals, and they still don't all do so...and never "by far." Unless you're actually competing on the race track, nobody gives a rat's ass about a couple tenths of a second 1/4 mile or 0-60. Manuals will always be more fun.
Yeah Frank is forsure right, yes technically a modern gearbox can shift faster, but let's be real nobody outside of professional racers need that extra 0.04 seconds on the shift, I'd much rather have fun and be in control of the engine that have that 0.04 seconds of extra acceleration lmfao
+GodZirraAnim Yes, because no automatic anywhere has ever left a driver saying, "gosh, I wish I had control so I could select a different gear for this bit." Nope. They always give you the right gear for every situation always. ...oh, wait a sec
People who think automatics are far superior obviously just can't drive a manual properly. Every auto I've ever driven either doesn't always shift how I'd like or it's jerky/slow. Even the dual clutch in a VW that some people think is perfect, sometimes it'll think you want to downshift when you really want to upshift, or vise versa. Never had that problem with a manual.
Hi Doug. As a Jaguar XF S owner and a huge fan of Jaguar, this is the most beautiful version of the most beautiful car that I have ever seen. There is something organic, mesmorising, and elegant about a Jaguar. Thank you for the great video, which was informative, accurate and entertaining. My husband loves Jaguar and has been lucky enough to have owned a couple, but the F-Type is 'off the scale'. Once upon a time, Enzo Ferrari (the Great Man himself), said that the Jaguar E-Type was the most beautiful car in the world! I wonder what he would think of the F-Type? I'm sure he would have said something along the lines of "a worthy successor to the infamous E-Type". Enough said!
Agree about the beauty, yet it reminded me of something specific. The design hearkens back to the days of the E-type, that is true. But my wife reminded me that it is reminiscent of my all time favorite car: Toyota 2000GT, which itself is a plagiarized version of the E-type. Toyota never offered an updated version of the 2000 GT, so I'll just have to appreciate the sublime beauty of its distant cousin. And start looking for used examples that are in my price range.
Rented the V6 convertible in Germany last year and I've got to agree it's extremely well balanced. Quite easy to get over 250km/h on the autobahn, and it feels like it could go to 300 no problems which is pretty astonishing for a V6 which is under 400hp
He's right about Jaguar prices. In the middle of 2016 you can get 2014 F-Types easily under $50k used, and a few are listed under $45k. They were probably $65k - $75k new, maybe more. They will start to look like used car bargains around 2020, + or - a year or two. That CarMax warranty sounds like a good idea on one of these.
Try the MXL GoLav if your using a GoPro in the car. I use it in my helmet riding a motorcycle and sound beautiful. Love the car, especially the 6 speed :)
Perfect video, thanks Doug! Funny and entertaining. Not enough V6 manual F-Type videos on RUclips here, I'd go with this configuration 100%. Gonna buy one in a couple of years when the prices have dropped like a stone!
I have a 2018 F type 6 cyl. and it’s a little rocket. Yes, you’re so right about the depreciation. I just bought a CPO with an extended warranty and it was much less than new. It has under 29,000 miles too.
Amen brother... I bought the *rubbish* F-Type a couple of years ago with 12k on the clock! I'm thinking of getting a new F-Type but mine now has 60k with impeccable service record; never had one significant issue with it...I might just get a private plate, it's still immaculate.
Taken the lesser size and power of this engine in consideration (compared to some crazy V8 550+ HP Supercars engines), This is probably one of the absolutley best sounding cars ever !
The FType is a beauty of a drive. Not crazy fast, but fast enough to use it all and not constantly be scared for your life. The sound is ridiculous too, just so good. I'll take mine in white though.
@@jameshughes6857 You are absolutely right. Just read an article about the spoiler. It goes up at 70 and does not go back down until you're doing 50. There is no manual control. Thanks for the info!
Hey Doug. I've taken your awesome advice and just purchased a 2015 F-Type S from CARMAX. Yes, CARMAX. Highly optioned car. Less than 20,000 miles. Less than $50,000 total price including my five-year 100,000 mile MaxCare warranty. All that's left is to enjoy driving the car....
I've had manual and automatic Jaguars and have come to this conclusion. Auto boxes usually last the life time of the car whereas you can burn out a manual clutch in a weekend!
omg that is the best sounding V6 I've ever heard. It almost sounds more like a V12 or something exotic. It doesn't sound quite like a V8 but it does sound great
I love this body shape, i have similar looks BMW Z4 Coupe, also with two seats, a long mask with 6 cylinders and manual transimission, similar performance but im sure this F-type will be next in my garage.
Not entirely. Often the people who get the top of the range are "numbers" people, not necessarily driving enthusiasts. They want to impress their friends with the 0-60, and how fast a theoretical lap time is more than actually enjoy driving. That is the high end cars all use automatics only these days.
I think the V8 (R) oversteers a lot, or it did before they made it AWD. I think the V6 is supposed to be a lot more neutral, thus the point Doug was making.
Colds I've seen mixed reviews on it. Probably the most famous was MT Best Drivers car where it didn't put down power well at all, but then they found it had a broken rear toe link or something, and fixed it before the timed lap, but after they had filmed it on the street.
But the F-type R is better. Becuase there is a "R" in the name and "R" means its a race car, F1 cars are race cars. That means the F-type R is basically a F1 car and dont you want a F1 car. Also 8 cylinders are more than 6 and more means better.
It's not like an F1 car at all. Too heavy and luxurious. The only thing better with the R is the horsepower. But when Jeremy Clarkson himself says that he doesn't feel the need for more power even with the 6-cylinder, the word ''better'' doesn't have much value when it's connected only to the horsepower. Not to mention the huge price difference between the two versions. It's all about how a car makes you feel and not about the specifications. ''Also 8 cylinders are more than 6 and more means better.'' I don't know how serious this quote is. ''More means better'' is not a reason at all for one to consider v8 over v6. The fact that you can get more power out of v8, and better fuel economy with v6 if you don't care much about power would be the reason. As far as maintenance goes I haven't heard any clear examples where one would require more or less of it.
yep, 3 pedals is the way to go. but harder to find in NA, took me 2 years to find my dream car, because only 100 were made manual... f type has a mix of VQ35DE sound and Vr6. 2 best sounding v6 in the world imo.

Doug, As usual a very professional review, no nonsense just honest opinion with a tad of humour.
That car is so sick....
Well, this channel came a long way in 3 years!
No, no, no. The warranty needs to be BUMPER-to-BUMPER.
They did a pretty good job of mimicking the sound of the old E-type.
Doug the type of guy to strap a vibrator to his collar
I love this body shape, i have similar looks BMW Z4 Coupe, also with two seats, a long mask with 6 cylinders and manual transimission, similar performance but im sure this F-type will be next in my garage.
thats the opposite of what id thought it would be, youd think the v8 would appeal to the same audience as the people who would want a manual...
Not entirely. Often the people who get the top of the range are "numbers" people, not necessarily driving enthusiasts. They want to impress their friends with the 0-60, and how fast a theoretical lap time is more than actually enjoy driving. That is the high end cars all use automatics only these days.
Its sounds so wicked, I think I want the s 380hp supercharged manual. Cant wait.
So it's basically an oversteering boat
I think the V8 (R) oversteers a lot, or it did before they made it AWD.
I think the V6 is supposed to be a lot more neutral, thus the point Doug was making.
Dolby 109 even the AWD F types dont put power down in corners, look at the SVR
Colds
I've seen mixed reviews on it. Probably the most famous was MT Best Drivers car where it didn't put down power well at all, but then they found it had a broken rear toe link or something, and fixed it before the timed lap, but after they had filmed it on the street.
I recently bought a 2017 manual ftype. It is actally 380 hp. Love the vids
The Type S has 40 more HP. The car in this vid has no S badge on the rear, so it must be the base model which comes with 340HP.
@@spiritualarchitect4276 thanks, man!
I'd love this review more if the audio was better.
I had a Jaguar XKR, but it didn't sound like that. AMAZING SOUND!!
I would go for a manual m5 f10
Totally different cars, plus the m5 new is a lot more expensive
That's a strange car comparison.
I was comparing it in prices, didn't he say the base v6 jag was 60+k? for 70-75k you could get an m5 f10 with a manual transmission
Dacrazy-can M5 starts at like 94...
+randomocityvideos brand brand new yeah, low low mileage 2012-13 are " affordable "
I can't believe you didn't say one thing about how totally gorgeous that car is. arguably one of the best looking street cars today.
Don’t you really need a v8?
A question no self respecting man ever asked
AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED THE TRUNK FLYING OPEN AT 2:52???? Doug you're hilarious!
no, your hilarious, that's a spoiler that activates at speed..
Shit. Messed up.
''Also 8 cylinders are more than 6 and more means better.''
I don't know how serious this quote is. ''More means better'' is not a reason at all for one to consider v8 over v6. The fact that you can get more power out of v8, and better fuel economy with v6 if you don't care much about power would be the reason. As far as maintenance goes I haven't heard any clear examples where one would require more or less of it.
im just joking man, my dream car actually is the v6 with a stick.
BirranMoto Lol, I had that feeling, but on the internet you never know.
BirranMoto Yeah also 9 sec 0-62 is better than 6 sec 0-62 because higher number is more speed
As a biased F-type R owner, get the v8.
The convertible f-type with a V8 and that burnt orange color is my dream car
There is an American that can use a manual gearbox?
Wow that'a suprising
yep, 3 pedals is the way to go. but harder to find in NA, took me 2 years to find my dream car, because only 100 were made manual...
f type has a mix of VQ35DE sound and Vr6. 2 best sounding v6 in the world imo.
Doug, you should rename your channel, "Mr. Balance," Lol. You could even start going by Doug Balance in your daily life, or even just, "Balance," as in, "Hey, Balance, when's your next car review coming out?!"
I bought very expensive Bose speakers to hear Doug's pristine audio better and i'm not dissapointed.
did anyone mention that the trunk pops open at 2:42? He hits a bump and the trunk pops!
omg that's the spoiler, bro heauehauehuahe hope you're kiddin'
Vinícius Notharangeli wow. that really is a spoiler! that sure is ugly.
I thought the same thing for a second, but then realized it's an active spoiler.
sean hayes ahdhqnsbajsb i’m rethinking of buying a porsche after i saw this comment omfgnsjdn
Thanks. I was wondering if this was a spoiler.
This is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. And the exhaust note is exceptional.
Why does youtube keep recommending your videos?...
I dont care how fast is going f***ing ''ONLY'' as long as it looks this damn good
I picked up a pre owned V8 for 60K
That thunder sound on the beginning sounds exactly as the one on the Dream Theater's "A Nightmare To Remember" song.
