Worth a thumbs-up for the use of the word "gopping" alone - for which I wholeheartedly salute you, sir! I honestly thought I was the only living person using that word but alas, I must now share that mantle with your good self. Superb review, by the way, and hearty congratulations on your much deserved 200,000 subscribers. Keep up your excellent work, James..
One of the issues with the earlier RWD F Type is water ingress. This can cause the injectors to seize. On the AWD, Jaguar moved the bonnet vents to overcome this issue.
The F-Type is a car that took soooo long to get made - I remember seeing an F-Type prototype way back in the 1988 in Auto Express Magazine when I was just a very young kid.
Thanks James for bringing this cat again. You captured the sound concert so well, I still have goosebumps. And even since... I own a V8S myself. As a driver behind the steering wheel you are a bit far away from the source of joy. The closest you can get to it is the convertible with folding top down. So pure, so aroar plus the wonderful exotic design, that's why I fell in love and had to have one. The newer models with particle filters cannot compete against. So I hope this car will keep its already excellent value for the money for a long time. Maybe even the future classic that enthusiasts want.
Huge congratulations on your 200k. You deserve every success. And to cross 200k with an F type epiphany is amazing. I was one of those who screamed “you’re driving the wrong one” at the screen when you tested the convertible V6 against the Evora. The F type was the only sports car I dreamed of having in my garage and luckily my dreams came true last year (RWD f type R). The only trick you missed was to put everything into sports dynamic and then press the exhaust mode button. It reverses the valves and gives you all the fun without to much noise. A kind off ‘silent assassin’ mode. The Fs party trick is being a relaxed, quiet, long distance GT with an easy 36mpg + achievable on the motorway. P.S the Michelin PS4S go on tomorrow.
I have to watch F-Type videos just to get my fix of that sound and especially F-Type V8 videos. Well done, Jay, and thank you for doing a great job. Congrats on 200k subs!
I would personally definitely pick the V6 S. 380hp and a god holy amazing soundtrack... for a V6. Lighter, more nimble and the center exhaust looks to me a bit better and the quad ones on the V8s
Nah, the R is a monster, much faster, more aggressive with 4 exhausts and the noise is insane. I love mine - 4 years later and I'm still smitten with it.
Let's just say that.. I placed an order for a V6S R-Dynamic around the time they stopped making them and Jaguar Corporate offered me the V8 for the V6 price.. I ended up *declining* and getting a slightly pre-owned V6S R-Dynamic. Sounds 10x better imo and the center exhaust is a lot better looking and more refined than the busy looking V8 pipes. Everything about it is better imo. Have not looked back since.
Which I did, bought a 2016 3.0 S manual transmission car. 30,000 miles, never saw salt, triple black, it has great road presence. As some have said, fast enough, good enough sounds, the full leather interior with the premium seats, for me it has it all. I had to look far from New Hampshire to find it, got it out of Denver, 2,000 miles away. An inspection of the underside showed no leaks, no rust on the steel pieces, it's never seen salt, never will in my hands. The V8 is a beast, a great bargain on the used market, but I wanted a manual transmission and I found a good one.
Great video: 1. Just run dynamic mode but with the suspension set to normal...not too stiff ...what I do. Perfection. 2. The look of the things is timeless...way nicer than say a 911 (all of them save perhaps a track oriented car or a rauh welt). 3. The v6 is the better car..more balanced and once you get past the muscle car 0-60 the V6 sounds more F1 (better to me) and is about 100 lbs lighter.
F-Type R always made me feel conflicted in terms of how it sounds. I understand why there are people who hate it, calling it 'sounding like indigestion'. It is over the top and absolutely ridiculous. But I can't help myself not to like it. It's just so ridiculous I want it more than 991 Carrera S.
I have owned a V6 and now have a V8. The 6 was a little annoying as the tone is an acoustically generated wail, but mostly is too quiet 90% of the time. The V8 is too quiet 95% of the time. The 600 cell cats are very aggressive and mute the gorgeous tone to the point where you can’t hear the car, at all, on the hwy, and it’s almost always way too quiet. VelocityAP 200 cell cats change the tone to a raspy “no” but do add more volume which is much needed. I found 400 cells which are just right, and now the volume of the lion-like roars and melancholy howl is at least audible.
IMHO the f type is jaguars middle finger salute to the regulator s and all the hoops they now must jump through that r all consumer Unfriendly I’m looking to buy one just to annoy the local traffic cops 😂 and because at 60 I can finally afford the type of car I listed over when I was twenty Just hope getting in and out isn’t too much of a problem 😱
I own a 2017 Storm Gray R coupe and love every second I even look at it. I run all weather Pilot Sports and don't even have any issues in the winter even in the Rust Belt.
The 4S is too flimsy for a RWD V8. My F is tuned, but not that much, and ripped the cores out of both rear 4Ss at the bead with maybe twenty 3” arc shaped tears per tire. The R888R was out of stock nationwide, so I replaced with Cup 2s. Cup 2s provided much more lively handling with stiffer sidewalls and overall adequate construction, but 350HP per tire totally overwhelms traction. Finally, I found a set of R888Rs and although they still spin, they are the best upgrade ever on a RWD V8 F-Type.
Bought an MY18 V6 R-Dynamic manual two weeks. Coming from a tuned TT also manual, the F-type is a much more sophisticated and theatrical car to drive. I was really worried about it being RWD as the TT was FWD and I had so much fun with it on curvy roads. The F-type on good tyres (currently on new generation P Zeros) feels safe and well planted even on cold rainy days on the same curvy roads.
@James, Dude did you notice at time mark 7:19 what looks like a wimbledon white with blue racing stripes Mustang maybe a GT350R just sitting on the driveway. WOW. If it is not a Shelby GT350R, but another variant it still amazing to see that car over there in the UK.

Wrong tyres! Get those MPSS or PS4S on it and you'll resolve the traction issues. Mine is a '15 V8R and it was undrivable before I put proper rubber on it. Now it's just brilliant.
Bought a v6 for my 30th coming up this year. I do think in a couple of years I'll likely trade up to a newer v8. But I adore the v6, its hella good fun.
Did you find the road noise on 'normal' British tarmac quadruple with P4S? On those terrible sections of the M25 for example, the road noise must be 85 decibles. Even at 30mph on bad roads, road noise is strangely high on anything but brand new tarmac or damp roads. Traction is great, but I'm even considering downgrading to supersports to reduce the road noise!
@@richardfreeman2242 I had PS4S on my previous car and that stretch of the m25 was horrible back then! I swear it’s horrible in anything! I didn’t go from super sport to sport 4S in my previous car and didn’t notice any difference in road noise
Had my 2017 F-Type R Covertible for about 14 months now and LOVE it. But I also have a deposit on a new C8 Corvette. It's killing me trying to decide which to keep (No, can't - or really shouldn't - do both). Jaq looks sooooo much better, but the vette's performance numbers and ride sound fantastic and rear engine...damn! My favorite way to describe the F-Type R is a viper that went to college.

I wish people would learn more about things before doing reviews. I have an 2013 v8 R with carbon brakes and a host of other extras, it weighs 1570 KG not 1700 KG, if you go into the dynamic settings and put suspension on normal steering on normal and engine + gear on dynamic it is the absolute best car for all round fun you can buy. I think anyone who thinks the f type R is not elegant and beautiful from every single angle really needs speck savers ;-) . Rant over and I do actually like your channel Jay keep up the good work.
Think you'll find that is incorrect. The Project 7 is the lightest V8 F type to date, by a considerable margin of roughly 200kg, weighing in at 1585KG. The lightest curbweight configuration for a RWD F-Type R is 1756KG. Have a look for yourself.
@@michaels2962 if that was the case then the non carbon awd would be over 1900 kg and I don’t think that’s how much they weigh! I have scales built in to my new mot brake tester that are calibrated to within a few kg and with a quarter tank of fuel and me in it comes in at 1690 kg and I am 105 kg.
@@flysurfer108 the RWD curbweight is 1665 with CCM brakes. So will easily be mid 7s with a human inside. Besides, the amount of carbon on F-types is minimal and weight savings are practically negligible and purely cosmetic. The CCMs make for a total saving of 21kg. It’s practically negligible and would recommend reweighing as your calculations are suggesting a standard r is lighter than a p7, which is physically impossible

I saw that car at the Jaguar Breakfast Club February 2022 meet which was a celebration to the F-type with around 100 on display. I remember it because I have the same paint & trim colours on my XF S Sportbrake, plus it sounded awesome when leaving 👌🏻. Great video explaining the various trim & engine differences 👍🏻. I totally agree about having good rubber on your cars, it's just a shame there are way too many potholes & debris on the / in the roads to damage your tyres before you have been able to get some decent mileage out of them.
I owned a rwd R coupe for 2 years. I regret nothing. Having said that, you can feel the XK roots when you push the chassis - especially mid corner bumps.
When the ambitious but rubbish trio had this on the show that shan't be named, I fell in love with the V6's noise, to this day I think it's still my favorite exhaust note of all time.

You've got to be kidding, the back of the F-Type beautiful!
I will always respect the view of a man that calls a BMW 'gopping'...
Well, it is!
I love this channel - JayEmm is a poet!
The shirt is a work of art
I love this car. One of the few British cars that I like
Huge congratulations on your 200k.
The design's so good that it'll look very modern for a LONG time. Engine sound is also a plus, both the V6 and the V8s sound fantastic
Love an F type. I prefer it to a 911 anyday
I have always wanted an F-Type V6 but recently have been considering a V8, partially due to the better looking back ends. Great content!
Go with a supercharged V6 R-Dynamic, sounds 10x better than the V8
V8 sounds 10x better you mean lol
@@jetsetter883Don’t know about better, just different. The 6 does sound incredible.
@@djswitch5514 Nah sounds like lawn equipment, just my opinion
@@dlj1285 They both sound cool but I like a good ‘wail’ over the ‘growl’, to each their own : )
congratulations James you're the best in the business!
Thankyou!
I would do the same, buy a used V6, sounds good enough, fast enough for what it's worth.
Nah, the R is a monster, much faster, more aggressive with 4 exhausts and the noise is insane. I love mine - 4 years later and I'm still smitten with it.
And it's the only way to get the 6-speed manual transmission.
V8 will be collectible !
Great video:
Congratulations on 200k. More than deserved, easily the best RUclipsr!
@@FFE-js2zp hey, where did you find 400 cell cat downpipes from out of interest?
IMHO the f type is jaguars middle finger salute to the regulator s and all the hoops they now must jump through that r all consumer Unfriendly
I’m looking to buy one just to annoy the local traffic cops 😂 and because at 60 I can finally afford the type of car I listed over when I was twenty
Just hope getting in and out isn’t too much of a problem 😱
I own a 2017 Storm Gray R coupe and love every second I even look at it. I run all weather Pilot Sports and don't even have any issues in the winter even in the Rust Belt.
What a perfect car to celebrate 200k. I might be a bit biased, though. Looking forward to the F-Type grin 😁
I would love an F-type, it's one in my dream garage. Great review!
Dang!. That's a 2002 in fabulous racing colours!. And whatdaya mean angry ?. It is just the sound of a roaring Big Cat in its natural environment.
I'm picking up a red 2015 rear-wheel drive F-Type R tomorrow. Under 17k miles on the clock. Can't wait. This video has me champing at the bit.
I daily my F Type as well, no problems so far.
I have no idea what "gopping" means but it fits the new BMW design language perfectly.
I think you've worked it out lol
We have no idea what their language is, indeed.
A straight-6 is 2 cylinders longer than the V8. I'm not sure it'll fit. Or if it will, it could be hanging out in front of the front wheels.
@James, Dude did you notice at time mark 7:19 what looks like a wimbledon white with blue racing stripes Mustang maybe a GT350R just sitting on the driveway. WOW. If it is not a Shelby GT350R, but another variant it still amazing to see that car over there in the UK.
I don't think that's a GT350R, but there's loads of Mustangs over here now since they finally did RHD.
@@NubletPie278 Oh that's awesome. I did not know that they brought the RHD's over to you. That's great news for petrol heads. BTW, did Chevy and Dodge bring over a RHD Camero and Dodge, Charger or Challenger? Thanks
Wrong tyres! Get those MPSS or PS4S on it and you'll resolve the traction issues. Mine is a '15 V8R and it was undrivable before I put proper rubber on it. Now it's just brilliant.
My 2015 F-Type V6 is super fun to drive. It's my daily driver and I'm very glad I purchased it.
Great looking car that sounds gorgeous and won’t cost silly money to run….. what’s not to like 👍
Bought a v6 for my 30th coming up this year. I do think in a couple of years I'll likely trade up to a newer v8. But I adore the v6, its hella good fun.
Fantastic video and what a stunning car, really love this Jag. Congratulations on reaching 200k subs 👏😉👌🏻👍🏻
Congratulations Jay! Absolutely loved your content for years, honest, fun and very informative. Here's to the next 200k!
congratulations on the latest round number 200k is indeed a great milestone, happy to have been along for the ride since the early days
One of the best V8 engines in my opinion. It was a loud car and that better be what you desire. All and all a wonderful GT.
My favourite video you’ve made so far. Great job! 👍🏻
Great overview of the rear wheel drive F-Type and the lush British countryside. Nothing like that out here in California.
Hop on CA 150 from Santa Barbara to Ojai. Perfect road for a sports car.
I still love the look of the xk
Nice car. Hopefully the new update for this model has that straight six engine you mentioned. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
Best content & shirts 😁 on the internet !
Was that a BMW 2002 Just went past you ? X
Absolutely wonderful video mate 👏 F- type R is a legendary piece and best v8 sound ever made
Gorgeous from every angle IMO and I've always admired RWD coupes with too many cylinders.
I’ve got the same car but changed the tyres to PS4S. They are night and day different.
More then happy to let you have a go
Did you find the road noise on 'normal' British tarmac quadruple with P4S? On those terrible sections of the M25 for example, the road noise must be 85 decibles. Even at 30mph on bad roads, road noise is strangely high on anything but brand new tarmac or damp roads. Traction is great, but I'm even considering downgrading to supersports to reduce the road noise!
@@richardfreeman2242 I had PS4S on my previous car and that stretch of the m25 was horrible back then! I swear it’s horrible in anything!
I didn’t go from super sport to sport 4S in my previous car and didn’t notice any difference in road noise
Congratulations James, well deserved!
I have the AWD and it's really good in wet and cold conditions, it saves you in any circumstances where you'd be off in a RWD version.
Depends on whether you want a car you'll see round every corner, or something with a bit of rarity and class.
i've got the 4.3 2007 vantage, but before i bought it i was looking at the v-6 version of these that had a manual. there were not many available, but the prices were comparable, in 2019, for both cars. did i make the right choice. i don't really know. i don't regret buying the aston, but then again, i may not have regretted buying the jag either. i would still like to drive one across the country and find out.
I absolutely loved my V8S in Italian Racing Red. Still the best sounding V8 under £50K!
Recently purchased this exact car, love it.
These things are still beautiful damm
i love the variety of your shirts, never a dull moment with them very nice!
LOL I loved that BMW critique at around 6:05
Well done and congrats!! I've been looking to get an f-type for a couple of years now, think I'll go for a test drive. Thanks and take care.
Lots out there so take your time and find the one with your name on. I went for the full fat V8 as I was upgrading from a 2010 XKR so I had to, didn't I?
It’s a lot of sports car for the money. V6S is sensible. V8 R will be the one that goes up in value eventually.
The exhaust is absolutely the best thing about the car. It is hands down the best stock exhaust on any car that isn't a 250k+ supercar
I own a 2015 F Type R. Only mod I e done is 305 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires out back and it changed everything. The best sports car I’ve ever owned. And I’m keeping it for as long as I can. It’s a maniac with a manicure. A bruit in a suit.
The V6S is a mad car - the V8R is a hooligan.
I fondly remember the first time I saw an F Type when they first hit the roads, I nearly wet myself. I thought it was utterly stunning. Aggressive but beatiful and with the most astonishing sound; crackles, pops and snarls. Still love em and this is a great video.
Its the nicest jag since the e type. What a motor. Get the 575bhp one or dont bother.
oh man, i love that raunchy exhaust note! ...that growl... that over-run... if someone would just make an album of this cars exhaust notes! ...then i could listen to it while driving my miata! haha
Love the video James! Need to see a Project 7 next, would be great to see a comparison! Maybe even a Project 8!
Just got my 2014 F-Type V8 s yesterday found one with only 60,000 miles on it perfect condition complete maintenance records for 30,000 US dollars mine's a convertible but that's part of the reason I bought it because I love convertibles and being able to hear the exhaust even better is incredible! For the money this is quite possibly the best car you can get it does everything and does it all extremely well!
Great review as always, ty for your hard work 👏 👍🏾
More Smiles Per Hour than any other car, certainly for the price tag. I got my wife the F-Pace S AWD V6 3.0L but I'm going to get the V8 F-Type for my next car especially and after this review I think I'm going to get the RWD version, maybe a 2018. Great review, thanks for uploading.
Great words about the Jag V6 SC. Reliability of it did seam to be a problem. And you highlight other issues. Weight V angle and econ
Thank you Jay. Your content is always a joy to watch.
The sound , man ! The sound🙏. Beats the 1970s milkfloat sounding electric cars anyday
Stunning engines, I have an xfr with the same motor, they drive super well. Feels smaller and lighter than they are. Sounds dirty as all hell.
had a 2017 for a few years and you could fit a 6'3 adult male in the trunk closed. my son tested it LOL. stunning car and amazing to drive .
I love the look of that Jag, thanks for the video, it's pure quality.
When the ambitious but rubbish trio had this on the show that shan't be named, I fell in love with the V6's noise, to this day I think it's still my favorite exhaust note of all time.
For me it was after chris harris his video on drive
Ambitious but rubbish? Come on now
@@marcodelas7268 That's what they called that era of the shows evolution, the term was coined by Clarkson himself.
Well done James on the double tonne.
