Your RUclips channel is SO great because it really fills a gap in the card making community in that your videos really teach us the basics of each technique and tool. Almost all the others focus mostly on just showing how to make cards using specific products. But I find these videos almost IMPOSSIBLE to reproduce. I needed someone to show me all the things that you do. I hope more and more people find your channel because it will help more people discover the fun of card making and enable us to cross the rubicon from just watchers to actual Makers.
Hi JD! I recently discovered your channel and have been SO enjoying it! Imagine my shock and surprise when I got my notification 😄 for this video, eagerly sat down to watch and heard your super, super kind shout outs. Thank you so so much for that... it was wonderfully generous of you and I am truly grateful. I am just delighted that you found some useful ideas on my channel since I have been finding lots on yours. I’ve always thought there was a secret card maker living inside of me dying to come out. You may be inspiring her to dip her toes in the water… We’ll have to see what happens with that 😊. Thank you again for your awesome, fun, intelligent, brilliantly edited channel ... and for your very sweet mentions! I eagerly await to see what you do next! 😊😘💕 Happy crafting!
Hi myriam! I love your channel as well. Thank you so much for the kind words 😊. I’m in awe of your art skills and techniques. There’s a valuable art lesson in every video of yours! Sending big crafty hugs! 🤗
My favourite technique using alcohol inks has to be adding the Deco foil. I taught a class making 4 cards out of a 5x7 sheet of Yupo and adding the foil accents. It was a big hit! I love the idea of masking and revealing, so cool!
One of the best alcohol ink tutorials I have seen. My story- when I was young and vacationed with my family, I used to save spin art to do on the last day, at a booth that was always there outside of the souvenir stores. Always anticipated and a highlight of my time there. The lazy susan brought me right back.
Just came across this video as I am planning to try alcohol inks - WOW!!🤩. I can’t wait!! Love the vibrancy and how attainable you make it with clear instructions. THANKS!!
I’ve worked with alcohol inks before using a coffee filter. I used shades of greens and reds with a little bit of yellow. I was then able to cut and use the colored filter as my Christmas card developed. Thanks for the rotating tip.
Thank you so much for your easy to follow video. You get straight to how to do it. And it is great how you are so generous with sharing other artists names.
Wow!! So much information and tips in only 16+ minutes of video! Thank you for putting this information together in one video. Very helpful for people new to AI art.
hello JD, this is a great video., thanks a lot. May I ask you if you have experience with colour fading over lots of years, and how you are able to protect your works from fading? this is my only concern to integrate alcohol ink in my works.. thank you so much in advance, phil
Good morning from Texas JD! I love ❤️ your techniques and this video. I had no idea of how to do this and you’ve inspired me to do something free form. Can’t wait for the weekend to head to Michael’s for supplies. I have only recently (6 months ago) rediscovered stamping. My daughter was born about 24 years ago and I pretty much gave up paper crafting to be a Mom (and I’ve always worked full time too). I’m so enjoying paper crafting again, with all the new supplies (I used to heat emboss with a toaster!) 🤣 I’m loving paper crafting again and introducing art to my precious 5 year old grandson, who inherited the “artistic” genes in our family. Keep your videos coming; you are never boring and your honesty is refreshing. ❤️😘
I have been playing with inks for a year now but you showed some techniques I haven't seen before and so excited to try them out!! Love the idea of using vinyl die cuts, definitely trying that one!! TFS!!!
Lots of great ideas JD. I use new aquarium airline/water tubing (it's long and flexible and can be cut at whatever length, it's in the pet dept) to blow through when working with my acrylics. You should give that a try!
I am SO glad i.came across your video! The ones I watched before were. . . Well, boring!! But you gave su h great, inspiring ideas! I can't wait to try them out!!
I use 91% rubbing alcohol to move and blend my inks. It’s cheaper than blending solution and does about the same thing. Thanks for the tips you shared in your video.
On the pink one with the blending tool that made circles, they totally looked like flowers. I would have added green stems and leaves since you are able to layer and possible a bit of silver foil? Or maybe even rose gold.
I just got my hands on a few bottles of alcohol inks, and I had no clue how to work with them. Never used anything like them before. So thanks a lot for the tips and tricks =) I feel much more confident trying these out now!
Hey JD. Just a massive thumbs up for these tips. I have not used or purchased alcohol inks as I didn’t feel the need to buy another medium when I adore what I have already. I’ve been doing the same stall tactic with foils. Then your tip showing me that I can do both. Mmmm 🤔 maybe I’ll be needing to invest!!!!
Subscribed. I’m @2:59 and already you’ve offered more awesome tips than I’ve seen/heard watching several hours of videos from other popular artists. Inspired to play with inks again thanks to this FAB tutorial. Thank you ☮️
Thanks for the tips! Do you ever use isopropyl alcohol? I can’t afford the blending solution, it’s too expensive for the amount you get. I’ve seen all the others use alcohol instead, it really helps move the ink too.
Like the use of lazy susan, and vinyl. I will definitely be trying both. I also have a tip, I use rubbing alcohol for clean up, it's more cost effective and saves my blending solution for more fun techniques.
Thanks, JD! I finally played with my alcohol inks for the 1st time & was mesmerized! Such a fun & beautiful way to create! So happy to hear we can use both sides of the yupo paper & great idea to cut down the full sized sheet! 😍 Blow tools, felt, paint brushes, foil & cake spinner are what I’ve used thus far, but I LOVE the masking technique using vinyl! I hadn’t thought to incorporate my cutting machines into alcohol inks like I do with paint & canvas projects! 😍 I’ve got tons of vinyl so I will surely add sentiments & shapes to the mixing of alcohol ink projects! Thanks, again, for sharing! Nice job! By the way, I so need that carrying case lol!!!!! You’ve given me so many great ideas! 🤗 I’m taking advantage of the links below! 💰
Hi Jd-want to save a little ones? Use rubbing alcohol (91% preferably, but not necessarily) to clean up your ink. In fact, I use it to clean my workspace!!!
Hello. I definitely loved the tip section with vinyl masking. As I had been discarding the use of alcohol inks for a quite long time now, this newly discovered trick opens a whole bunch of possibilities and made me want to give it a try back. Thank you !
Oh Lordy!! Once again JD, I have to say you are such a hoot! Now if I could find a next door neighbor like you I'd be in heaven. I have these inks and have only used them twice. I just hadn't figured out how to use them in interesting ways, well as usual you came thru JD Thank you so much for your videos. I always learn things I didn't know before and love them all.Bless you JD
What a great video. You covered so much information so quickly and in terms even someone who has never used inks can understand. And its funny too. Thanks so much. Your work is beautiful.
I’m a watercolorist and have experimented with some inks on yup, I naturally like to use a brush as my tool but the alcohol really damages them-Fast. It’s a good thing I used my older brushes.
I am so thankful I found your channel from your 50k blog hop. I am loving your tutorials. You explain easy to understand and leave in mistakes to show you are human.
Thank you for your tutorial. Someone just gave me some alcohol inks and I haven't tested them out yet but I love all of your great tips so I can get started when I find the rest of my supplies!!
I am excited about the possibilities of this!! I'd never heard of it, or possibly did but I didn't pay much attention---why? I guess because I didn't know what it was. I already did so many different art forms so didn't think I needed another one. Is there ever enough art? No/
Thank you, JD. I've tried all sorts of media, but I'll tell you what, with Alcohol Inks, I hit it out of the ballpark in ONE TRY with your video to guide me. I used slick paper and 2 greens--teal and forest by Pinata to make a secondary mat for my pharmacy technician license. IT LOOKS LIKE A PRO DID IT! Thank you SO very much for your video. I notice most of these are 4 years old. Tired of teaching or did you move on to other media? 😁

Hi Myriam, I'm so excited to have found you through JD. Can't wait to see what you have to offer on your channel.
What do you do for protecting your work?
What varnish do you use?
My favourite technique using alcohol inks has to be adding the Deco foil. I taught a class making 4 cards out of a 5x7 sheet of Yupo and adding the foil accents. It was a big hit! I love the idea of masking and revealing, so cool!
I had some old photo paper and it worked great.

Always anticipated and a highlight of my time there. The lazy susan brought me right back.
The lazy Susan is a great tip. I have yet to get my alcohol inks to look right, but you inspire me to keep trying.
Just came across this video as I am planning to try alcohol inks - WOW!!🤩. I can’t wait!! Love the vibrancy and how attainable you make it with clear instructions. THANKS!!

Thank you! I can’t wait to try the masking with my new Cricut Joy. Very helpful. One thing to add to the video is how to seal the work.
Thank you so much for your easy to follow video. You get straight to how to do it. And it is great how you are so generous with sharing other artists names.
How do you protect your finished pieces? Do you spray them with a clear coat of some sort?
I miss your sunny disposition and art knowledge. You introduced me to many different forms of art, and make it look like I could tackle it.
Just did my first ink last night and now I feel so extra inspired ! Thank you for the great video!
Thanks for all the great ideas! I don't use my alcohol inks very often, but watching this videos makes me want to get them all out and use them!
Great tips and tricks for a beginner like me. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. ❤️❤️

Thanks for this tip. I am very new to alcohol inks and was about to order the blending solution, but I'm going to try this first.
The blending solution is good for sealing the metallic mix mixatives and alloys.
On the pink one with the blending tool that made circles, they totally looked like flowers. I would have added green stems and leaves since you are able to layer and possible a bit of silver foil? Or maybe even rose gold.
You are so fun to watch I enjoy all your videos. Alcohol Inks are new to me I will have to give them a try.

Thanks! Such great techniques!! I'm using straight 91% alcohol for my blending solution until I can get proper blending solution
Love the vinyl masking idea! I can now use my dies with my alcohol projects. Thanks so much.
of course! we gotta get as much use out of those dies as possible
Great tips, thanks. I'm just now getting into alcohol inks.
Like that it resembles water color painting.

Your ring holder is actually an old antique salt dip, in case you didn't know. :-) I have one too. My mother used to collect salt dips.
Wow. Lazy Susan is a freaking excellent idea
very informative and professional. Well presented. Thanks!
Very informative! Thanks for getting right to the point, that's what I came for!
beautiful colors

This is a great demonstration of zlcohol inks! Thanks for sharing.
Hi! Really enjoyed your video.... question about making these into cards. Do you seal them before making a card with the alcohol inks?
Thanks...
Kim
You could put a stencil over the top and use blending solution to make an image over the top. 😊 Thankyou for the tips
