    Fwiw, chronurgy spells have been supplied by a Graviturgist wizard in Critical Role, so my understanding from a lore perspective is that dunamancy is dunamancy, specialties don't restrict spell access beyond being a dunamancer.

    Levitate and Thorn whip work very well together. If you're levitating close to the target and pull them 10' they fall and take additional damage.

      YES. This is a great use of these two spells together. They don't just take additional damage, but they fall prone as well. 1d6 + 1d6 + fall prone at 3rd level with a cantrip is AMAZING. I'll be highlighting this on next Monday's vid.

    Note that with Web, once you get Gravity Well, you can do something like a Careful Spell and shove your allies out of the Web when you cast it if they’re on the edge.
    Also note that Wall of Fire is really good on a Graviturgist because of course you can push enemies through it, but also, you can make the Wall 5 feet tall and then if an enemy fails their saving throw you can push them 5 feet into the air so that they fall into the wall a second time.

    Gravity, as we currently understand it, is a distortion in space-time, seems to me we should be able to manipulate both time and space in order to generate our gravitational effects. So you should be able to sling out a singularity that draws things in and slows them down and once matter is consumed you get a minor radiant blast.

    The new Tasha’s mind whip is a good spell to take with this subclass. You can combine it with a web spell for great effect, and from Wizard 6 onwards, you can move any creature that fails its INT save.
    Picture an enemy fighter with a greatsword who’s beating down on you or another squishy character. Hit them with this and move them five feet from you. They now a) can’t reach you, so you can move away and b) will have to basically waste their next turn moving into range for another attack.

    The hilarity of casting immovable object on an enemy’s shirt in combat, and having them struggle and writhe to get free so they can fight bare-chested, is amazing. I feel like this spell is great for pranks; puts me in mind of an old M*A*S*H episode, when B.J. nailed Hawkeye’s boot to the floor. It could also be put to more macabre use, as you could make a sharp object immobile and then push an enemy onto it.

  • @binolombardi
    @binolombardi 4 года назад +1

    Did you look into the gravity well features interaction with the create bonfire cantrip?
    By my reading of the feature and the cantrip, if a creature fails the first saving throw when it appears, it takes the damage and can be moved directly upward above the spell effects space. This would cause the creature to fall back down, which would count as the creature entering the spells area for the first time on a turn. This would cause a second saving throw to be made, potentially dealing the cantrips damage again.
    TL:DR
    If a creature fails create bonfires first saving throw, it can be made to make another saving throw the same turn it’s casted. This drives up potential damage slightly.

    A little note on your concern about Wildemount/Eberron content: According to the source of all things Wildemount/Exandria, Matthew Mercer and Critical Role, at least some of the Eberron content exists in Wildemount as well. Artificers exist in Wildemount, including one of the legendary members of the adventuring troupe Vox Machina, and Wildemount native, Taryon Gary Darrington. DMs can make any rulings they want, but, if you ask me, any DM really should allow artificer in Wildemount games if they want the setting to really feel like Wildemount.

    Be careful about this, because it could be changed, but I’ve found that the new Telekinetic feat from the revised Psionics UA psynchronizes (getit) with Graviturgy magic fairly well. It’s another way to control enemies and allies, if a fairly chaotic and unwieldy one. Works super well with spells like web and Evard’s black tentacles.

    Love these videos, it’s really helped me learn some rules I might have been unaware of. Regarding your video last week, I’d be interested in seeing a build based around taking damage. A character that wants to get hit. Maybe a bard with armor of Agyths as a magical secret? Maybe a level of barbarian for rage, take spiritual weapon as another magical secret since neither take concentration. Or instead of barbarian they could cast blade ward every turn which although maybe not the best mechanically would be kind of funny to see a build based upon a cantrip many consider inferior. Add hellish rebuke and now you’re doing a lot of damage from getting hit. I don’t know I’m not the optimancer here id just be interested to see what you could do.

    I’m having a technical question about the artificer 1/wizard x and casting spells and wearing a shield. For wizard spells when you need a component, you need an arcane focus for instance a staff or something from a component pouch. For the artificer spells, you need an artificer tool. Could you use a component pouch to cast the artificer spells? Or how would you deal with this?

    • @TreantmonksTemple
      @TreantmonksTemple  4 года назад +1

      No, artificer spells require you are holding applicable tools. It's not easy to work around, you will need to keep track of what you are holding, if anything at any time. Technically you can put away tools on your turn and cast a wizard spell as using a component pouch/touching a focus should not require an interact with an object.

    • @Hendori3
      @Hendori3 4 года назад

      Treantmonk's Temple I thought so. Roleplay wise this seems very limiting. Your character needs to know what kind of spell you cast, and therefore keep switching items during combat. RAW it could work, but it seems that unless you play something like a juggler, it would be hard to explain in character. You could of course flavour it like getting the right tool for a particular moment

      I agree with the weapon, but it could still be reasonable to touch something else they're wearing and cast it. As a DM I'd probably treat it like a grapple, but the enemy can only use dex to avoid it, not strength. If they fail, you manage to touch whatever it was you were trying to touch and the spell is applied. Otherwise it's lost.

    21:29 To my understanding, pulling a creature into an area against their will does not trigger the effect of 'enters the area' spells, so this combination doesn't work. Am I mistaken?

      I think so. You may be thinking about the triggering of "if the target moves" effects like booming blade.

      @@binolombardi In my case it was confusion about a jeremy crawford tweet on moonbeam. I believe he said it's design was that a creature must willingly enter to trigger the effect, otherwise it just harms them at the start of their turn. Otherwise moonbeam could harm a single creature multiple times a round, but I guess that's because you can move moonbeam.

      JustMonica
      Moonbeam, and spells similar to it, can harm a creature multiple times in a round. Because of the way it’s worded, the damage potential per round actually goes up the more creatures there are to take turns.

    This build is such a troll. Like, most of its abilities are based around just being as annoying as possible, stopping an enemy from being able to move at all and just bullying them.

    i kinda find it stupid that paladins and rangers have to round down their levels and the artificer can round up his for calculating spell-slots. In my opinion, since tashas came out, artificer is not only the best multiclass for a wizard. Every half-caster and to some extend the sorcerer(although he would get his con-safe prof. anyway). Sure a 13 int on a paladin or ranger might raise some eyebrows but all the related skills like religion and nature base on intelligence. And now you have a 2nd-lvl spellcaster in a 3-rd lvl martial.

    • @DonFranke
      @DonFranke 2 года назад

      At 24:00 you picked the War Caster feat for your first ASI. Perfect choise but the argumentation is meh. And since EVERY artificer spell requires a material component, thieves' tools you can freely cast them as long as you hold onto your spellcasting focus. Besides having the problems to switch from an arcane focus to tools and reverse since
      wizards use either foci or comonent pouches and the new kid is using the thief's reserve key.
      You can perform somatic components of spells WITH the hand that handles the spellcasting focus/material componen of a spell. Under Components in the PHB p. 203 and clarified in the Sage Advise Compendium, here is the summary:
      You can use the hand that handles the component/spellcasting focus to perform the somatic parts of a spell.
      If the spell requires a component with a gold-cost of any kind, you need that component. Chromatic Orb i.e. needs a 50gp diamond, not consumed but needed as material.
      If the spell does NOT require a material component you can not use the same hand that holds your spellcasting focus for the somatics, since it's not needed in the spellcasting process and therefore not giving you a "free" hand.
      Longer version for the people who are still reading:
      PHB p. 203
      Component:
      - Verbal (V):
      Most spells require the chanting of mystic words. The words themselves aren't the source of the spell's power; rather, the particular combination of sounds, with specific pitch and resonance, set the threads of magic in motion. Thus, a character who is gagged in an an area of silence, such as one created by the silence spell, can't cast a spell with a verbal component.
      -Somatic (S):
      Spellcasting gestures might include a forceful gesticulation or an intricate set of gestures. If a spell requires a somatic component, the caster must have free use of at least one hand to perform these gestures.
      -Material (M):
      Casting some spells requires particular objects, specified in parentheses in the component entry. A character can use a component pouch or a spellcasting focus (found in chapter 5) in place of the componens specified for a spell. But if a cost is indicated for a component, a character must ahve taht specific component before he or she can cast the spell. If a spell states that a material component is consumed by the spell, the caster must provide this component for each casting of the spell. A spellcaster must have a hand free to access these components, but it can be the same hand that he or she uses to perform somatic components.
      Sa-Compendium (2020, version 2.4):
      Q: Does a spell consume its material components?
      A: A spell doesn’t consume its material components unless its description says it does. For example, the pearl required by
      the identify spell isn’t consumed, whereas the diamond required by raise dead is used up when you cast the spell.
      Q: If a spell’s material components are consumed, can a spellcasting focus still be used in place of the consumed component?
      A: No. A spellcasting focus can be used in place of a material component only if that component has no cost noted in the spell’s description and if that component isn’t consumed.
      Q: What’s the amount of interaction needed to use a spellcasting focus? Does it have to be included in the somatic component?
      A: If a spell has a material component, you need to handle that component when you cast the spell (PH, 203). The same rule applies if you’re using a spellcasting focus as the material component.
      If a spell has a somatic component, you can use the hand that performs the somatic component to also handle the material component. For example, a wizard who uses an orb as a spellcasting focus could hold a quarterstaff in one hand and the orb in the other, and he could cast lightning bolt by using the orb as the spell’s material component and the orb hand to perform the spell’s somatic component. Another example: a cleric’s holy symbol is emblazoned on her shield. She likes to wade into melee combat with a mace in one hand and a shield in the other. She uses the holy symbol as her spellcasting focus, so she needs to have the shield in hand when she casts a cleric spell that has a material component. If the spell, such as aid, also has a somatic component, she can perform that component with the shield hand and keep holding the mace in the other. If the same cleric casts cure wounds, she needs to put the mace or the shield away, because that spell doesn’t have a material component but does have a somatic component. She’s going to need a free hand to make the spell’s gestures. If shshe had the War Caster feat, she could ignore this restriction.
      And yes, i typed that stuff out from the phb, cause yay physical book XD.
