Fake FBI IDs are illegal in the USA naughty Adam! Just like fake IDs in basically every case! LOL NO! theres plenty of people who have served time for IDs that do not match any badge ever!
Some years ago I produced a feature film that had the FBI in the storyline. We had to get approval of the script by the FBI to use, “the FBI” in our film. Their public affairs office was extremely helpful when we were making props, including FBI credentials, documents, folders, how they might store evidence/papers/media, etc., certain aspects of how an agent might do specific things. It was incredibly interesting and extremely cool.
Every Earl Hays with Adam and Michael video is an absolute gem, a joy to watch for me. I love ephemera so this just hits so many buttons. Thanking you kindly!🙏
One of my weirdest metal detector finds was a genuine FBI collar pin ... the best part is I found it in England, on an old abandoned WW2 airfield, so I assume it's from the 40s.
IIRC, in the opening credits for "The X Files," Mulder and Scully's credentials read "Federal Bureau of Justice, Department of Investigations." It was probably one of those things to keep it from being mistaken for the real deal.
They aren’t QR devices but they may have them for inventory/accountability purposes. They DO have rfid chips you can use as card readers for access controls or other authorizing or limiting credential.
NFC readers can read RFID devices (I've done it myself with library books). I'm not sure about the reverse, if only because RFID readers tend to be coded to be single-purpose and difficult to mess around with.
1:19 You mean NFC/RFID. QR codes are a visual code used by an optical sensor that will prompt a browser to reach a URL. NFC/RFIF are small radio devices used to send and receive signals wirelessly. Such as opening remote locks, confirming unique ID, and more.
For the old IBM electric typewriters there is an "Official" Government & Military "Ball" that was used. They each have a distinct font, that was only used by each. This was an early form of Watermarking. The balls were considered a controlled item and had to be accounted for.
Was real interesting to hear about the modern security features in actual badges... and makes a lot of sense, given how much power they can convey on an individual, should be as controlled as possible.
Are those badges the type of thing an actor would be allowed to keep as a souvenir of their time on set or is it stuff they have to return to the production?
** RFID chips ... not QR but we know whay you meant. This is AWESOME. For some reason I figured you could make current badges but USING them would be illegal. Fascinating stuff. ❤❤
I made my own X Files, well, files. In one I inserted the badges and I needed to laminate the ID with the photo because the laser printing was sticking to the vinyl. The originals were put into the vinyl holders without laminating and some were laminated, mostly the later ones.
Adam, the photo used on all of the id badges looked so much like Kiefer Sutherland. I had never noticed the resemblance before, but now I cannot unsee it! lol
As someone who is currently working in the digital print industry, I fully understand what you mean when you talk about the "look" of traditional printing.
Danial Craig's prop British Passport for use in the James Bond films was manufactured by De La Rue, the secure printing facility in the South of England who at the time held the contract to produce the real British Passport. It therefore contains many of the actual security features that you would find in a real passport.
Obsessing over accuracy is obviously one of the joys of recreating props for a fan, but that the real props don't have the time or funds to bother with that should help ease the pressure for those of us who are okay with "rough enough is good enough".
People are now so used to seeing prop IDs and Credentials, they don’t know what the real thing looks like. When I was with US Customs, and had to show my credentials, some people looked at me like I had two heads. 😮
When Xfiles came out I made a replica of their badge. as a kid I was worried they a van would show up take me away and ask many questions! so I went sort of Earl Hays too I used Federals Agent Burrell (FAB) the shield logo had a "beetle"" on it. and "MIA" instead of "CIA" (Military Intelligence Agency)
Back in my days working Convention security, we had a dealer selling items like these who ebdes up getting arrested for selling g IDs too close to the real ones.
Very cool, but I i don't think I need a "Smeat" can.. what would I do with it? Silly right? How much would something silly like that go for? I mean it's neat I guess. I don't think I would use it for anything but it would look cool on a shelf. I probably don't need it. Maybe it would be cool but nah... Okay you got me. I need Smeat... GIVE ME SMEAT!
Please Adam, do not bullshit us, we now know the time machine you are working on is in it's finale stages and you will in a short time be going back in time to do something of interest to all of us. I just hope you have enough ID badges to complete your mission.
I wonder if they did the IDs for Gary Seven in the Star Trek episode Assignment Earth? Had maybe five seconds at most screen time. At one time I found a dealer at a Con who made IDs based on STTNG.
I didn't see the federal agency that everyone is starting to think about this time of year. Although, they are a branch of Treasury, and he had a bunch of Secret Service badges.
Okay, help me out. I'm trying to remember a word that essentially refers to a prop that looks like it would be a real object in the world. Like the difference between a device being a big clonky box or making it look like a hand would properly fit around it and fit in a pocket. Something a person would carry every day. Help me out here please.
Funny that, the "ID" for my WIFI , people in my neighbourhood were pirating from my router, i changed it to "FBI Surveilance" , its been years since and everyone leaves it alone, no more problems.lmao. P.S. you need a MIB badge now too...
I need to make reproductions of the Atomic Energy Commission Los Alamos government IDs that everybody wore during the atomic testing. The one that has the crimped over edge metal plate that you just slide the paper ID into and then it goes on a little hanging clip which holds it all together. Humphrey Bogart has one of those made and you see how it's done in the movie Tokyo Joe.
Wait.... did you say Airwolf badge?! I thought I heard it, but couldn't see it in any of the over head flat lay shots. I loved Airwolf.. Really love how much research they put into making these as accurate as possible to the time period for each agency.

Love the Nevada Test Site tag showing Adam as "Director of explosions".
At this point, Earl Hays Press should be its own channel. Looks like an endless supply of fascinating props to cover!
Props to history has videos on them iirc
Fake FBI IDs are illegal in the USA naughty Adam! Just like fake IDs in basically every case!
LOL NO! theres plenty of people who have served time for IDs that do not match any badge ever!
I love that Adam is now a member of every agency in any time period 😂
Next, he just needs to build his time machine!
Guys been in a midlife crisis the last 10 years
He’s now officially a Time Lord :P
EXCEPT the Treasury!
And not wearing a suit. That's kinda odd.
Love this Earl Hays series so much! Please do more of these ❤
More to come!
@@testedthrilled to hear that

If you don't mind, what movie was that?
Sure thing@@tiadaid. It’s called, “Tangled Web.”
@@tiadaid I’m sorry, I thought I had replied. It is called, “Tangled Web”. It came out in 2016.

@@wernervanpeppen4873 yeah, I do wonder, no idea how to get it tested though...It was a good 8" down, so had definitely been there a while :)
I am loving all these videos on Earl Hays Press. So interesting!
So glad! More to come.
Love the EHP vids! Thanks Adam and the Tested team!

I’ve worked in the graphic industry so this is right up my alley!
They aren’t QR devices but they may have them for inventory/accountability purposes. They DO have rfid chips you can use as card readers for access controls or other authorizing or limiting credential.
Yup, or NFC. "QR device" is not a thing. It's a visual code for a camera to prompt a browser to open a URL.
NFC readers can read RFID devices (I've done it myself with library books).

@@joelhahn2501 NFC is a subset of RFID, a specific protocol for communicating over RFID radios
I can't get enough of the Earl Hays Press visits!
7:27 I like that Adam Savage is the "director of explosions"
Love watching Props to History on TikTok! Great to see him on Tested with Adam!!
I'm more impressed that Adam is now an "official" part of the X-Files FBI than I am of him being a "fake" part of the real FBI haha
"Dr Adam Savage, Director of Explosions" is so perfect...

At the beginning of watching this, I thought hope he put 314 or PI on one of badges. Low and behold #31415 shows up at 7:21. It's my go to number, lol
Adam, the photo used on all of the id badges looked so much like Kiefer Sutherland. I had never noticed the resemblance before, but now I cannot unsee it! lol
YES! Two prop legends coming together. I used to watch michael all the time on tik tok.

Adam now has enough fake IDs for a Dean Winchester cigar box! 😂
The Bladerunner one....just in case Gabriel watches too much sci-fi.
I'm not sure how I feel about Adam using the slang "clutch". ;P
Just got my Blade Runner ID. A must have.
Adam now needs a Secret Agent cosplay. why do i have secret agent man stuck in my head now?

Love to see all this efemora from the warehouse.
Cool! But a Multipass is even better!!
Im sorry but I’m crying because it brings back memories of myth busters. And adam best word ever am I missing an eyebrow
Dr. Adam Savage - Director of Explosions LOLOL

I have a Dana Sculley FBI badge .It has pride of place next to her business suit and red wig❤🔫
Agent Savage. FBI
My first Federal employee ID in the 1980’s did not have my photo. Not a policing agency, though. And we didn’t wear them.
The "ASTRO Division" ID is from Blue Thunder. Not airwolf.
Watching this I've just regressed back 40+ years to the 9yr old me.

Next step is getting badges for each department 😅
Hey! That's neat. I could use one, for...purposes....
Director of Explosions. 😂

That's weird, I was always told Adam's middle name is either 'Careful' or 'Danger'.

I was waiting to see it also! Must have been for the F.I.R.M.
Almost like present day Adam is talking to past Adam
I've often wondered about ID badges, who the heck knows what a real one looks like?
Adam should have put a suit
Are the real ID's not also Props, i mean Propositions?
How do I become the Director of Explosions‽
I would fall for all those badges as i have no clue what a real FBI badge looks like...Am i the only one?
