My name is Eric and I travel with my cats, “Tara” & “Opie” in a 24ft 2002 Ford Bigfoot Class C and tow either a 2014 lifted Smart Car named “Tater Tot” or my 2012 Harley Softail Slim named “Black Betty” in a 6x10 trailer. We travel about 35 miles a day chasing 70 degrees year-round since 2010.

That a shop in the Arizona area where you now live can’t seem to fix the AC in the Tracker says a lot about the mechanics; any AC system can be fixed regardless of the vehicle. There’s something more to this story that’s not being said.
Plus having it for a month and half and that’s the only update. Seems fishy

You are 100% wrong when you said no one can fix the a/c. You just haven't found a competent a/c technician. I know it is hard to find good people to repair anything, but they are out there.
The issue is an old vehicle which probably needs a gas which is no longer available or is extremely expensive. The other issue, a mechanic should have looked at it before he purchased to warn him about the A/C.
Agreed . You could even go to a universal under the dash A/C for around 600 dollars . That little truck can have A/C again .

Eric keep the vehicle. Do all shopping early in the morning. ITS ONLY REALLY HOT FOR 3 MONTHS. IN QUARTZSITE TODAY ITS 120 DEGREES IN THE SHADE but 5 am it's very nice

There are aftermarket ac systems that are for classic cars that never had ac. You can get ac in that thing guaranteed

Snakes including rattle snakes are all over in AZ. I'd never let a cat outside in rural AZ, especially in the dark. Most don't last long.

That's what I was going to say. There are parts out there to fix it. The mechanic must not be very knowledgeable or just gave up

Oh bullshit. If it ever worked, then it can be fixed to work again. The temp valve is probably bad. That’s the reason it works when first started and then blows hot. Also radiator fans could be bad. If there’s a fan clutch check it. If sensors for electric fan check it.
It doesn't make sense . Anything can be fixed if you have the experience. Why would someone tell you that. A.c. systems can always be fixed. Sounds like the mechanic doesn't want to do it. I would defantaly get a 2nd opinion. Why did they tell you it can't be fixed? What did they say was wrong with it. 👌

So the first opinion on AC for the Tracker is "AC permanently broken? WHY ?
Is it economically prohibitive? WHAT PART(s) OF THE SYSTEM are bad ?
I can understand if the evaporator coil is damaged, BUT you should be able to find SOMETHING that will work. The IMPOSSIBLE to repair just takes more effort. Just my $.02
If it takes r-12 it is very expensive just for the freon. You should replace everything to replace with the new freon
Sell it and buy a pickup truck :). Seems more useful - but you do you!
Eric has been enjoying the use of a suitable pickup truck, which suggests a pickup of his own might be the solution.
the little tracker is cute, but since you are selling it, maybe you can get a mid sized truck as you will need it for hauling stuff. i love my truck, even after i recently downsized, its still got enough room in the bed to haul stuff and can tow a trailer with m/c etc. 😊

Install a spring-loaded wheel on the front gate, when opened the wheel should follow the ground grade.
If you really like the tracker, there got to be a shop who can fix the AC. You seem to give up to easy, just like the gen in the RV.
I gave up on the generator in the RV? lol. My receipts say otherwise...
The generator shouldn't have even been a thing to begin with.

You can add an aftermarket AC to the Tracker but it's not cheap. It's about $1400 for the parts excluding labor.

Never heard of an AC system that couldn't be fixed. If you can't get a part for it there's always a retrofit but that's not that old of a vehicle to worry about that
Eric. Mechanic tells you that they can't fix your AC. It's because they are a shade tree mechanic, they don't have the time or facilities to do so. Or the knowledge. If I were you I would take it to a certified mechanic. Not someone that does it on the side.
It's awesome that you recognize the benefits of having snakes on your property. So many people just kill them. Plus snakes are also nomads and are usually just passing through. Bummer about the tracker though. Those things are hard to find.

There is no aircon that can’t be fixed or replaced. Someone is spinning bullshit. Think yourself lucky it’s just over a month since rain. Here in Perth, Western Australia, we went from November to late May with no rain.
No rain at all in Perth, in all that time?, Here where I am in North Eastern Vic it had been very dry the past few months, most of the lawn looks dead. we have had just under 300MM so far this year most being the wet summer.

I had a '98 Tracker with the 1.6. and the AC went out. Some parts were hard to find while I had it. Parts alone to fix the AC went for$1,100. Too much. 😮
you pretty much can put an a/c on any car / truck The aftermarket industry is loaded with them that mechanic just didnt want to bother doing it thats sad.
There are after market air conditioners that the put in street rods that will fit in your truck. If you both really like the Tracker at least look into that. It will solve your air conditioning problem

If you did want a wheel. They have them that have a spring on the shaft. Actis kinda like a shock and will compensate for the uneven ground.

Could you completely replace the system? If not, maybe get a small pickem-up for around the home and put a camper on it so you can store things on the road.

If that is all of the wood and there is none anywhere else then you may have only received what the industry calls a "Face Cord". A "Full Cord" is 4' h x 4'w x 8' long when stacked.
My guess is that the vehicle that you are looking out for, is another tracker with working air conditioning🙂

With all that needs to be done at Taterland I would think a truck would be on your 'To Buy List'... Yep, more good dirt and mulch at least 4 inches deep and LOTS of water will get your garden to survive. The picnic by the stream looked cool..ENJOY ! And thanks for sharing.
Bet can be fixed and kept stock. Maybe a excuse to get rid of it. Prior to this it was already on Marketplace for sale or trade for a regular truck
I think Eric should get a Ford Ranger, simply because you can’t destroy them, still a pickup, and small enough to flat tow behind the Bigfoot
I've owned 3. Transmission went out within first 3 months on all three. Easy enough fix, but I do like Rangers. I don't need anything quite as big as Paul's F250, but something in between would be perfect.

Eric , I own a 97’ Tracker and replaced the ac pump / clutch and drier and charged it myself for about $350 . If you have a bad line either a good ac person should be able to make one .
Love these Diana episodes! After years of needing one, we finally but the bullet and bought an F150 this year. 10 years old, but does the trick, and we don’t know how we lived without it. Good luck with your car shopping!

there's tons of kits online, you can do a swap out at a pretty reasonable price... also as stated below get a good tech
A lot of the Trackers didn’t have AC to begin with, might be a reason it can’t be fixed.

Maybe get a second opinion on the AC system? Someone should be able to get it done. All things mechanical can be repaired or replaced.

Honestly, bruv, get a nice 4WD truck. As much time as you spend offroad and hauling stuff, it just makes sense - I feel you on the A/C issues, living someplace hot, it's almost a must. Pity, the Tracker looked like a fun little wip.

Put a cable on the gate at the faster side going back to the post but up about 4 feet on a angle iron with a turnbuckle to tighten. Best is 2 short gates

My dad made his own car parts when needed. He was a rare breed. He also saved lives in the Navy as well when problems happened on a submarine. He was able to make a part and save all their lives. Never once did I hear this from his mouth. He didn't accept an award either. He self taught himself everything, because he didn't have a dad. He went in the Navy after graduating from high school when he was 16. His friend graduated at 14. So I agree with you 100% because I said the same thing when I watched that.

Yep, I'm with the guy that says that any mechanic that tells you something can't be fixed really means he or she can't fix it. Air conditioning is simply mechanical components that can all be replaces somehow. That said by this time you've probably already sold the Tracker and bought something else. BTW I'm liking Diana better all of the time. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
Air conditioning is super nice I live in Texas in a van with no AC this will be my 8th summer to do it it is no fun I am 68 and retired somehow I thought retirement would be better but like they say it is what it is

Eric, make sure you get the snake to sign a relase form to prevent legal problems lol. As fas a vehicle goes i had a 2007 chevrolet colorado for years and it was the most reliable vehicle ive ever owned. Ice cold ac, 4 cyl. 5 speed transmission, single cab. I wish i still had it but i got rearended about 6 months ago and it was totalled. It may be bigger than what youre wanting to flat tow behind the bigfoot but it might be fine too. Something to consider if you happen to see one for a reasonable price.

They make add on kits for classic cars where the entire AC is in a kit. You could maybe add one of those kits to the car.

I am not going to trash talk your AC mechanic. I have a little newer version (Suzuki) that had an "almost unfixable" AC. I have a mechanic that I trust, and everything seemed okay except the voltage to the system was a little low. If that sounds like your situation, change out the relay. It was internally corroded. That relay was not marked as being for the AC on mine. So, you may need to look for the correct one to change. Good luck.

Time for a channel name change :-) Nomadic not so much anymore, but that is okay...everyone makes lifestyle changes. If you still like the Traker maybe you can look at aftermarket A/C kits that a lot of the hot rod crowd uses?
Spending a couple of months in one location doesn't qualify to stop being nomadic. He's just taking a break after a string of bad luck on the road.
