A lot of people are always saying how terrible AC is. Like it's this horrific place. AC is no worse than any other major touristy city around the U.S and even the world. You could view and say the same about all of them to be quite honest. They all have good and bad. That's just a part of life. You can't have the good without the bad. No place is perfect.
That's where you're wrong. You absolutely can have the good without the bad. Unfortunately Atlantic City is just a corrupt shit hole. NYC was safe. It was the safest city in the world until deBlasio took over and Adam's has continued that. Soft on crime, lack of prosecutions, cashless bail, lack of preventive policing thanks to policy changes. Giuliani and Bloomberg ran NYC nicely. It was very safe. So you're wrong.
Not true. 95% of all pharmaceuticals are made within an hour of AC and they all dump waste in the ocean. You might not ever be able to have kids if you swim in that water. If you walk on the beach barefoot you run the risk of getting a needle stabbing you in the foot. Then you might have some disease from a drug user.
I think its relative. When you compare AC to all the other beaches on the east coast, its among the worst, along with wildwood. Its still a beach with a boardwalk, but no one can deny the state its in. And we all know why, lets be real lol
@@TheAbandonedAccount7 I disagree. AC and Wildwood beach is not even that bad to be quite honest. I've seen worse. This is not the 80's and 90's. They've come a long way. It's just a bunch of naysayers at this point. Also, what do mean the state it's in. Jersey is one of the best states out here. It ranks high in a lot of different categories. It's also in a great location. Proximity to mostly everything. The only thing holding the state back is how expensive it is.
I miss Atlantic City as a kid in the 90s. My parents would go to the casinos and I went to the mall when is was called Ocean One. Stopped by the store in the front called "Giggles" and bought pogs, basketball cards in the hobby shop and spent hours at the arcade playing Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Sad to see AC not thriving as much as it did before
I am 70 this year ! Spent many days on the Steel Pier as a little boy ! Looks like all outdoor rides now ! Their were a lot of indoor buildings before ,with indoor attractions ! I saw Little Stevie Wonder , they had a weekly indoor TV Dance Show Broadcast , The BEATLES even Played There ! Saw the Diving Horse and the Clown Water Show at the End of the Pier Many Many times ! They had more than one horse ! Nobody Pushed the horse off , it Would jump off on its own after looking down ! There was a Diving Bell that you could go down in the water , that was Cool ! So many things to do ,NOT JUST RIDES ! To Bad All That Seems To Be Gone !
Do you remember the lady turned into an ape? She would shake the cage and the lock would fall off and everyone would run out. One of the first scams. Lolol
The diving bell was funny you could never see anything but that ugly dirty colored NJ ocean water. And people getting off it would tell you it's a rip off you can't see anything BUT people are hard headed they still paid to go on it even after being told ! haha
@@ochoron7430 do you remember the knife salesman on the boardwalk , he would say it was so sharp it could slice a tomato so thin that one tomato would last you a whole month .
I am from here, only 10 minutes from Atlantic City and I will tell you, outside of the casinos and the boardwalk/beaches, the streets are not a very safe place to be, a lot of robberies, shootings, prostitution, and drug dealings. It's even worse at night! it's a shame how bad it has become over the years. I used to enjoy it when I was a young teenager, going uto the beaches with my friends, and I felt much safer then, but now you have to be very aware of your surroundings when you are there, and don't trust anyone, there are a lot of scammers on the boardwalks and the streets, they're always trying to sell you something that is either fake or Stolen, so be aware. you'll also notice a lot of homelessness on the streets and the boardwalk. Of course that is everywhere these days. Oh, and around here, I have always heard everyone, including myself, call that ride, a carousel. Sorry! 😊
It's a shame that the casinos didn't help the city much outside of the boardwalk casino area. Should have done more to help with the city's problems during the casino's heydays in the 80s to 2000s. When everyone was going to AC to gamble. Now Everyone has casinos, even online, don't need to go to AC anymore!
That Playground area you were walking around with the great view used to be the Ocean One Mall and all those restaurants up on the top floor used to be a very busy area. I don't think the retail stores every did great business but there was an Apple Store back when it was the Ocean One Mall. They sold the Mall and it became the Playground more geared towards bars and nightlife with bands etc., but never really took off. Now it is supposed to become a Movie Studio but not sure if that deal fell thru because I do not see any activity and well since you walk thru they certainly haven't begun any activity to convert it to a Movie Studio. I like that you are switching it up with a trip to Atlantic City. I always remember the beaches at Atlantic City being really small and not much sand area. We always spent the summers in Wildwood where the beaches use to be a mile long or at least it seemed to be that long. I think even the Wildwood Beaches have become smaller but still way bigger than Atlantic City. Lastly, yes definitely a Merry Go Round. Let's Keep the Carousel in the Movies and Broadway Shows.
Fun fact about the high dive horse at Steel Peir, one of the riders was Sarah Detwiler Hart, wife of the late great Gene Hart and mother of Lauren Hart
New Jersey should be embarrassed that Atlantic City is the way it is now, there’s no reason Atlantic City shouldn’t be more like Ocean City Maryland or even the Jersey Shore. They’ve let that place fall apart and it’s all because of the way the states government has run it into the ground.
17:37 ,they also filmed alot of Boardwalk Empire in the Port Richmond area of Staten Island, including my friends old bodyshop which use to be a old Mack truck dealership....they was Dumbfounded when scouting & seen all the original time period vehicles inside & wanted to use them as well....they used alot of old buildings in that area
That's preety depressing about that mall! The fountain show was really cool and they used to have some really nice high end stores and restaurants! Loved the view up top over the beach! Sad to see what is is now, I guess all the outlets killed their businesses! Thanks for Sharing!
Omg Jon those segments with Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan on the boardwalk promoting Wrestlemania were classic. Anyway the boardwalk looks nice. Wasn’t it rundown for years
Every year from the late 80s to early 2000s, I'd visit the AC boardwalk . Used to love goojt to that 99c store, Ocean One Mall, and my favorite shop was a tshirt place called Rainbow Tees.
Wife an family just visited this place on 09/21/24. From a distance driving into the city It looked like a paradise. The closer we got the worse it started to look. When we finally arrived to the city we were in complete shock.
Atlantic City used to be known as the lungs of Philadelphia. That mall was wiped out by the outlet stores, just off the boardwalk. A film studio, I believe operates in it now. A merry go round is at a school yard or a playground. A carousel has the horses on it. Usually on a boardwalk, or fair. There's a Dave and Busters off the boardwalk near Caesars. DO AC!
Still no reason why a nice place like that shouldn’t be thriving, The state government ran it into the ground, I see this and don’t understand why it can’t be just like Ocean city Maryland, there’s so many people in OCean city Maryland that you can’t even walk down the boardwalk.

Been there and stayed at Oceans Casino Resort. Its a nice place. AC Boardwalk at night isnt safe. We would go to Ocean City NJ or Wildwood. It's Sugar is my favorite store on the AC Boardwalk

Academy Bus used to offer service from port authority NY to the Tropicana Hotel. No more. Tropicana used to be the place. Mid week hotel rooms wer under 99 bucks.
Everything always changes and nothing good last for long that mall looked like our mall (except much smaller) mostly empty now they opened a casino in our dying mall in upstate NY . Again no reason to go to Atlantic City about 4 hrs away when there’s a casino a mile down the road to lose your money !
Many fond memories of AC! Would love to sit down with the Captain over a few beers and talk about the good times at the shore and watching the Phillies.
