Herb, I've never had so much second hand happiness for someone. I let out a deep sigh and felt like everything was just right. I don't believe in any kind of mysticism but there is something heartwarming about two puzzle pieces clicking together. You and this property are perfect for each other, and it just fell into place all of a sudden. I don't know that jealousy is the right word, but, this is multiple dreams of mine that probably won't get realized in my life, stacked into the same event: It's property you own outright, it's land out of the city, it's offgrid, it's already developed and livable but rundown and needs restoring, it has an airport, you already have an airplane and a pilot license, it's private and remote, and you have a wife that shares your dream and is along for the right. This is like the Arizona version of a sailor buying a private island. Lots of people think about it, but you actually got there. When I was watching this, I was thinking about what I presume to be the years of nose to the grindstone and sacrifices you made working on your business, the burnouts, the stress, the choice to avoid luxury and save money instead, all of that. And how you walked into a trading post and exchanged that wagon of goods for this land. Looking around at all that it got you, it's incredibly satisfying to see a quite literal representation of what your hard work got you. This, is because of that. You used to have one thing, and now you have this new thing. And you earned it first. You deserve this.
Hey guys you might want to invest in some wind turbines and some extra backup batteries then you will never need any grid power also harvest all of the rain water that you can that will help . I will try to come up with some more ideas congratulations !...!...!
Oh my gosh, those light fixtures crack me up man these people I don’t even know what they were thinking with the light fixtures, and I didn’t know what to say about that
#1. There are "enough" rattlesnakes there, that one needs no explaining. Don't relocate, your dog may thank you later. #2. Buy a semi-auto .22 rifle and take it for frequent walks. #3. Use the grader to make a fire barrier around your home. Those are my top 3 starter tips.
The grader last moved from sometime 3/21 to 8/23. That's child's play for someone like Diesel Creek to get running again! The airfield isn't that old either; certainly not WWII related. It was put in sometime between 2003 and 2007.
I never could understand people building walls so thin back when it was cheap to heat/cool. Now a two-foot-thick wall to the outside is needed to reduce the energy needed to live in a space. The wind is your friend as you have more than enough power to build/repair anything you need! Love the support that you are receiving from the posts on RUclips! I am too old now to do anything like what you are doing so remember to think ahead to retirement with a body that can no longer pick up that heavy object so you can enjoy what you have been able to do!
You could put a whole new spin on Airbnb. I carry a UV flashlight for scorpions at night because they glow! Are you considering making this a working field again, maybe a repair station? No airstrip but took us 10 years to complete. suggest trapping mice, packrats right away to prevent waking up with a Rattler in the bathroom!!!! good luck!!!!! Need to get some Bayer Tempo for the bugs. start March and spray about every 6 weeks or so and you will be able to control the bugs and ants....Takes a while to get use to the "chores" that are needed to survive in the desert but once you get them down you won't notice them anymore until you get sick and can't do them any more... and so the adventure begins...
My wife and I almost bought property at the base of that hill at the end of the runway. As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew exactly where it was. Congrats on the purchase (because if I knew it was for sale I probably would have got it) I can't wait to see what you do do with the place!
I lived in Arizona for a while in my early twenties. I was, in many respects, jealous of the new place. I was already thinking to myself, "Watch your ass for rattle snakes!" The bomb shelter vids were what brought me to your channel. But this looks like a really awesome adventure ahead! Can't wait to see your progress!
@@HerbOMatic They can be quite what? Quite dangerous? Anyway, I think you are both very brave. That's my quote for the day! "It's a disaster, but it's OUR disaster." Love it! My car is UGLY, but runs absolutely great and has the best a/c i've ever had. Just love it. And it's paid for. The wife asked when we're getting it painted, and I said, "Never. This thing is so ugly, we don't have to worry about it getting stolen or car-jacked."
You should totally keep that height chart or take it off and send it to the old owners or one of their kids. I will pay for the shipping if you decide to.
@@HerbOMatic congrats on your purchase! I get the vibe that this airport was used for drug smuggling. Out in the middle of nowhere, a drive from Phoenix ( "the gateway of freight") the airplane was also abandoned. Normally a homeowner would have sold that... Glad you found the snake, before it found you 😬
For spiders get some peppermint essential oil and mix with some water and spray around the inside and outside of the house. For Ants cinnamon works or spray Windex. You will need to buy wood or buy a kerosene heater. Maybe you could open an airstrip. You could sell metal for scrap to buy wood for fireplaces/stove.
Snakes are afraid of cats. I would definitely get a gaggle of cats in there and they can live outside. Just build them a cat house. That's what I did. There is an electric cat pad about 11 inches square that turns on when the cats lie on it, and off when they get off. uses 25 watts. Feed them something cheap from Tractor Supply. Multi-cat is 44lbs of dry cat food for $30.
I just subscribed. I'm in a somewhat colder place, but also off grid. 9 Miles N Willow Airport AK 61.89°N 150.11°W (Elev. 144 ft). I moved out here two years ago. I have only 12.45 acres, but have TREES! Yeah all it has is trees. Well after two years I have 36 solar panels on sun tracking mounts, 3 shipping containers (Two insulated and set up for living in) And a big hole for my large log cabin with underground basement. Lots of work. I am 68 and wish you all the best wishes. I am going to recommend a wind turbine that rotates vertically, that puts the large heavy thing on the ground and needs no rotating mount to take wind from any direction. I saw your 15 solar panels on the roof of the house. Az like Tx gets a lot of thunderstorms with lots of blowing dust, rocks, hail and the ocasional unhappy critter. That being said the winds are frequent and can be quite strong, you may get a lot of dust blowing into your house. Get yourself a magnet and check your blown in dust to see if you are getting any magnetite in your dust, it is murder on computers, I can advise on what steps to take to keep your computers working if you are getting conductive and magnetic dust getting blown in.
Outback power systems makes the best inverter/chargers and off grid power equipment. I have been using outback power equipment for nearly 20 years now. I have lived off grid on 400 acres in the Mojave Desert area of Southern California for 20 years now. I have a 36kw wind turbine and 24kw of solar. I generate enough electricity to heat and cool my property with electricity, in the early years I burned wood to heat my home.
If you have the funds best thing to do to really make it the way you want it is to gut it down to the studs and start over with replacing all the wiring with new stuff and then redo the plumbing and go with 2" closed cell foam spray to insure everything is sealed up. Also put in a ladder attic to make it easier to go up. This is what i do to every house i buy to make sure everything is secure.
I like it. Especially what was cut off just after you mentioned the haboob!!!!! My friend and I almost bought some land in about 1981 or 1982 just by the top of the hill where you can just see the outskirts of Kingman on the way to Laughlin just like what you have. It had water rights and it was all the way off of the road that went from Laughlin to Kingman. Now, 40 years later, I truly Wish that we had purchased it. 17:04
haha, I was waiting for "Y'all come back now, ya hear?" at the end. Great job getting the ranch! It looks like it needs a little love, but it has good bones. At least it's not completely run down, it just needs some TLC. If you guys want to keep the rattlers away, try planting some wormwood around the house. You can also plant garlic or onions, but wormwood will grow in draught conditions. You can also plant clove, it works. What I always did back in Montana was to mix lime and dried hot peppers or peppermint together and sprinkle it around the house. make sure you wear gloves and face mask...its not fun to have it blow back at you...not that that ever happened to me 😏 I wish you guys well and I hope to see lots of videos on fixing the place up! Also to see you fly your plane to there!
Dang, that's the line I was thinking of! Too late now, on the next one! I can't wait to take the mooney in there. I'll have to do a video about snake cures. I'll look wormwood up, I'm a city boy so I got a lot to learn!
@@HerbOMatic Here’s an idea for a future video, a list of projects, and priorities.. that will keep the RUclipsrs interested. One on my list is getting the hanger doors fixed or replaced, preferably with an electric opener, and along with it, cleaning out the hangar.. will be important to get the Moony in their, for emergencies and supplies, though Kingman doesn’t sound far away.. next might be that grader, you’re now in charge of air strip and road maintainance ✅
Guys, you have these tiny little camping pumps to blow up your mattresses you should look into them. I’ll try and get you a link. I just saw RUclips video about them.
Congrats!! Will admit, I'm kind of jealous too. This is the kind of place I would have wanted when I was younger. Out in the middle of nowhere and and decent distance from folks. Exciting times for you guys and look forward to a bunch of video's of your adventures and repairs and hidden surprises out in the desert..
I know exactly where you are. A good friend of mine grew up in Truxton and we would ride horses and ATVs around there and I remember that dude buzzing us in his plane.. Hahaha good times!
“Oh I’ve got lots of people interested” wink wink nudge nudge say no more. Realtors lol. Nice compound, I mean ranch, let the cult of Herb begin. Even came with an old V-35 bonanza. Interested to see what future videos will bring, congrats to you both.
I have been watching since nearly the beginning, and subscribed almost immediately due your funny approach to everything. This new adventure should yield some awesome content. But even if you decide not to film and share, I am totally stoked for you guys and this new chapter in your lives. Congrats!
There are actually several RUclipsrs who would appreciate the "Air Ranch" property, and a few more close enough to drive in... a future collab could be entirely possible, if they wanted to...
Solar is cheap these days and to live in a place like this requires a lot of solar to be happy. It looks like there are a lot of buildings and a lot of TLC to do to this place. Lots of building means extra water storage. Need lots and lots of water! Lots of equipment as well. I hope there is a Diesel generator as well. Firewood is going to be super fun. Keep in mind that the city can provide so much free wood that one has no clue what to do. Pallets can be a good source of firewood provided you just cut the slats out. Stacked firewood can be wonders good. Lots of hidden stuff out here as well. I am sure there is a lot of hidden stuff out there! Enjoy!
Solar and wind power generation! Since there is wind all the time that fan be generating power at night also, though generally wind gets less at night.
So run to the store and pickup some canned goods, water and a good shotgun to fend off the raiders. You might want to find a trailer to haul behind the jeep for all of the supplies that you are going to need to bring in. Starlink is a must and you will probably want to add some new fork truck batteries and panels to that solar system. Have a professional take a look at it.
You'll want to look into planting a lot of desert tresses to help grow a wind break. It will also help to eventually retain more moisture in the soil and will help with cooling the area in summer. Plus, some good desert tress have edible fruits.
You guys did excellent! With the wind and that dust outside be careful with valley fever😮. As a disabled person your place is too big for me😢 Keep sharing, we enjoy your voyage
Congrats on the new place. That looks like some beautiful desert with the mountains & such. Before I continue, of course it has an Arizona room. They are all Arizona rooms, being as all the rooms are in Arizona! Yeah, 1st business, have the exterminators in to take care of the pests before you move any of your stuff in! 2nd - get a video system w/night vision so you can see &track night critters, esp. those 2 legged kind. Some trail cams too. See what types of wildlife you have. Nice job of not killing the snake & putting it out where he or she belongs. It'll get big & fat while keeping down the pack rats & such. Since you're off grid - Nice!!! To heat & cool the place and since you have the space, you should look into a Ground Source Heat pump for heating & cooling. Higher up front cost for installation, but pretty cheap on power & cost down the road. With the winds, you might want to consider adding real working heavy duty shutters on the windows to protect the glass. Are you keeping the current place? Are you moving the bomb shelter, or building a new one? 😆 Was that a radio tower base I saw? How tall is it & does it have any ham radio (not cb) or TV antennas attached? That major wash is going to be an issue when it runs, as you'll be trapped behind it for days waiting for it to dry. See, you'll need a bomb shelter/cellar to store extra food. It will be nice to see the runway. Hopefully it is in great shape. Speaking which, you got the grader too? If so, very sweet! Look around, maybe there's a hidden loader & backhoe too. That would awesome. Yes, it will be nice to see the progress on your new adventure.
@@HerbOMatic Well, I think you'll be fine as long as you are aware of them. I have no clue how bad the venom is from those rattlers but maybe consider having some serum or something ready at home just in case? Do be mindful about your pets, dogs tend to stick their noses where they don't belong so maybe you might consider something for them too if help is a bit away? 🤔
@@HerbOMatic I've lived out here for several years, and never seen one. I think that place just had an opening and was a nice impromptu shelter for a bit - just find and fix the "holes", and you'll be fine. I recommend good high tough leather boots for hiking around in the scrub as you clean up the place, too.
Theres no way a place like that does not have a bunker!! Loving this change of venue and video style. Down to earth and dig watchin you two didlin around and only on butt cha cha cha. Though you still got it herbo. Mrs herbo should be fulltime gate opener for obvious reasons. Better get your truck lifted for the drives coming deep water monsoon to come across your road. That is a nice ranch, and a great price. has a lot of potential. My grandmas brother lived in the Phoenix/Black Canyon City area before he passed in 2022. he was known as the Arizona Duuude and would where a shirt, vest, and cape with the Arizona flag, he was a self proclaimed #1 Arizona fan. Never met him but he always looked like he was living his life to the fullest in family pictures
Love your sense of humor! Can't wait to see what you do with this place lots of possibilities. But with good comes issues like wind blowing sand in radiator of vehicle, snakes and pack rats building nests under the hoods of vehicles.
You are young, intelligent, capable, and unencumbered with the perfect wife. Your Ranch is going to be an Oasis. I can imagine fly in camping with camping spots, even cabins. Its going to be amazing!
If you start to consistently make contest on this, you'll make your money back within a year. Look at OffTheRanch/Matt Carriker; they went from throwing all their savings into an abandoned mansion and renovating it on a tight budget at the start to wrapping up that renovation wealthy enough to then immediately buy an abandoned resort and renovate that as well. Renovation projects are a literal goldmine when it comes to content, you almost cannot go wrong. I've literally seen annoying vlog kids buy a piece of property, hire people to do all the work, filming only update videos with no actual interesting content, and still make bank. So please, make all the content you can, we will watch every second of it.
Well, new subscriber! Looking forward to your journey. So jealous of your coming adventures. I’m toooo old now, but when I was young we had a place in the mountains between Prescott and just south of Mayer. That place was a dump. You have something to work with. We had our own aircraft, we flew everywhere. Your place reminds me of that old show from the 50’s; Sky King. His ranch was called the Flying Crown Ranch and his old Cessna 310 was named Songbird. I know you two are too young to remember this show, but it was kind of all we had with just 3 tv stations in the 50’s. Thanks for sharing🤗

12.45 Acres is still alot, I was hoping for 6 when this came up! Congrats, I wish I had trees!
Welcome to the Airport ranch and the beginning of your adventure. Relish and enjoys the ride.
Always windy is a good thing. The site is recipe-ready for wind AND solar!
What I always did back in Montana was to mix lime and dried hot peppers or peppermint together and sprinkle it around the house. make sure you wear gloves and face mask...its not fun to have it blow back at you...not that that ever happened to me 😏
I wish you guys well and I hope to see lots of videos on fixing the place up!
Thank you for the tour. Wishing you the best. Looking forward to the next time .
This is awesome. I love that place. And thank you so much for not killing the rattlesnake
Well I guess we'll never see the bomb shelter finished
here's the thing though, maybe he can afford to have both places? that's optimistic but it's possible.
Who says this place doesn't have a bomb shelter, either now or in the future? ;)
@@timderks5960 Why would it need bomb shelter in the first place? xD
@@andrewsneacker1256 I think out there they call the bomb shelters their tornado shelters ;)
Can’t wait for the new adventures
How much do I like that you locked the door in the middle of the desert :) New subscriber! I like your sense of humor for sure!
Wow, so cool!!! What a massive leap of faith. Huge amount of work everywhere, but endless possibilities!
I appreciate that you were gentle with that diamondback and released him back into nature.
Congratulations! As a YT'er, that's a content goldmine. Remember to have fun.
Dr. Killer….Really have to know what you are doing or you will end up as a lawn dart. Unforgiving
From the listing it looks like it also comes with an Ercoupe also. So, SCORE.
@@aboveitall9600 it also killed music that one day.
Not everyone has a tapeworm hole in their bunker bathroom. Nice find!
I guess I'll continue to pace my floor trying to figure out where the poop go
most likely to an underground waste disposal sewer tank
The previous as an airport would mean it had power ,water ,sewerage and communication systems surely?
I have been watching since nearly the beginning, and subscribed almost immediately due your funny approach to everything. This new adventure should yield some awesome content. But even if you decide not to film and share, I am totally stoked for you guys and this new chapter in your lives. Congrats!
Why am I picturing Cleetus McFarland flying in for a visit? I would love to see you opening the door to a loud "Hell Ya brother!
Yeah I'm subscribed to both for a long time now. I'd like to see that some day.
There are actually several RUclipsrs who would appreciate the "Air Ranch" property, and a few more close enough to drive in... a future collab could be entirely possible, if they wanted to...
This channel is awesome. It doesn't need to be stunk up by Cleetus.
How bout a visit from a feller tuber who owns his own Blackhawk??😮😮😂😂
@@MrJest2 Aviation 101 came to mind since Josh and Chelsea used to live in Kingman if I'm remembering correctly.
How blessed you are, that place looks beautiful.
Your terrier is adorable. The sweetest dog I ever knew was one of those, and in fact, the family named her Sugar.
I've never clicked on a video quicker. Let me know when you the international flights are scheduled.
Congratulations on the new purchase, or shall I call it, new adventures. It sure is pretty out there, going to love every this journey!
Oh this is awesome. Can't wait to see what you guys get up to on this ranch!
You guys should consider filming a horror film there before you fix it up
You'll want to look into planting a lot of desert tresses to help grow a wind break. It will also help to eventually retain more moisture in the soil and will help with cooling the area in summer. Plus, some good desert tress have edible fruits.
Congratulations!
Next project: Windmill Generators
You guys did excellent! With the wind and that dust outside be careful with valley fever😮.
As a disabled person your place is too big for me😢
Keep sharing, we enjoy your voyage
I believe it's a Mojave rattler, a favorite food for King snakes...just a thought.
The future is ready for you.
Enjoy the ride.😊
Was that a radio tower base I saw?
How tall is it & does it have any ham radio (not cb) or TV antennas attached?
That major wash is going to be an issue when it runs, as you'll be trapped behind it for days waiting for it to dry. See, you'll need a bomb shelter/cellar to store extra food.
It will be nice to see the runway. Hopefully it is in great shape.
Speaking which, you got the grader too? If so, very sweet! Look around, maybe there's a hidden loader & backhoe too. That would awesome.
Yes, it will be nice to see the progress on your new adventure.
What an awesome view out any window. Congrats.
When God gives you wind, he's telling you to build a windmill.
I can't wait to see what you both get up to there, fixing up the place! If anyone can do it, the ol' Herbo-matic sure can.
Congrats on your new land! That view is pretty spectacular, and with some elbow-grease that place will be a slice of heaven, rattlesnakes and all! 😁👍
I wonder how bad the snake problem is out here. I haven't seen another one yet...
Just love you two
Giddyup Guys, Jeallous for the adventure. I see wind turbines, wells, bitumen landing strips and runway lighting in the future. Enjoy every minute of it.😀
I used to live out that way. We were off the grid in Hackberry. That part of AZ is so beautiful. Watching your videos brings back old times for me.
Genius move buddy! Can see endless amounts of content for the channel! You are both going to be pretty busy for the foreseeable future! Happy for you both
that "way of the road, boys.. way of the road" just earned you a sub. classic!
Lots of potential = LOTS of work. Enjoy the adventure.
I told the wife it's a life sentence.
This is so amazing, i want to see everything yall do with the place. What an avdenture.
Hell this looks like fun. Thanks for bring us along.
Congratulations on the new location. Thank you for the video.
Hope this airport has a fallout shelter
I hope it doesn't so we get to see herb make one.
@@Bullfrogerwytsch that would be cool as well
What a great find!! From your neighbors in Quartzsite. Congratulations!
Did you find the secret nuclear bunker yet...
Dude that place is awesome! So happy for you guys. If that's the kind of place where the poop go, I'll be climbing through my toilet pretty soon
Good luck, bring a bar of soap with ya.
So Amazon next day delvers wont be an issue 🤣🤣
nice location. 👍👍
Herb, I got to say I’m blown away! 🎉
Thanks Jon, I couldn't believe we were able to make it happen. A little cash poor, but what are you going to do?
Love your sense of humor! Can't wait to see what you do with this place lots of possibilities. But with good comes issues like wind blowing sand in radiator of vehicle, snakes and pack rats building nests under the hoods of vehicles.
The video description is the best thing I’ve read on RUclips, ever.
I subscribed. I recommend you get some of that RainX bug formula.
13 years in the desert taught me one thing. F@#K THE DESERT!
Dealing With the wind and blowing sand would drive me crazy, everything it will be covered with sand eventually

That aircraft fuselage garage is awesome I want one in my property!
You are young, intelligent, capable, and unencumbered with the perfect wife. Your Ranch is going to be an Oasis. I can imagine fly in camping with camping spots, even cabins. Its going to be amazing!
The land provides 😂😂
You are hilarious
Looking forward to following your new adventure. God bless and protect you.
I say, build a pool drop a dozen double wides or tiny houses or what ever interests you and build a vacation ranch
I agree. There is potential for maybe family, friends joining them
Well, new subscriber!
You’ve been blessed and your days will get better with every day that passes..we’ve been off grid just around the corner from you guys and even with the weird sht that goes on we will never move back to the city.
Best RUclips content, hands down. Somehow.
Lol, thanks somehow!
@@HerbOMatic Seriously. I can't wait for all the madcap hijinx at the ranch wherein Herb is simultaneously displaying sick engineering knowledge and skill while making poop jokes and ogling his wife. It's riveting and laugh out loud.
Well, the place needs a lot of work, but at least you have an adorable wife and an awesome pup to do it with!🤠😎
Looks like a great place to see the area UFO’s. Best of luck. Need to have a fly in on weekends and serve breakfast. Tks for sharing.
You are living my dream. Off-grid, to me, is even better than the standard American Dream.
You better sell that V tail Bonanza AKA "doctor killer" before you get any crazy ideas like flying it
Oh my god what an amazing place! 😲Just subscribed please keep these videos going!!
