RIP John Brockington of the Green Bay Packers, just passed March 31, 2023. I begab watching these NFL film weekly highlights in 1968. I love the old films music provided be Sam Spence.
Ditto. As a kid, I was a helmet freak. Collected the gumball helmets; drew all the team helmets with my dad's markers. Loved how colorful the league was back then. Add in the old Buccaneers & Seahawks helmets....helmet Nirvana! Back before every team was so infatuated with black or dark, dark blue.
I love my old twipf videos I watched these in the Bronx in the early 70s used my tape recorder to tape the music and me and my friends would play ball imitating our favorite players mostly on defense
These are SO much fun to watch. This was when I first started actually WATCHING football with my older brother and his friends. I was 8 years old and they were around 14-16. I started off liking the Rams (Because I thought "Lamar Lundy" was a great name) but then I was informed in NO uncertain terms that we are a Bears family. Period. So this was my beginnings of a Bears fan. No one can call me a "bandwagon fan". I also remember when Sweetness was drafted, my brother said "Who the hell is THAT? Another wasted draft pick" He's come to his senses since. NOw highlights are not the same with no John Fusinta and no "drunken sailor" music.
The best Brookshire story was when he was with the Eagles, Sonny Jurgenson broke curfew, he stole a cigar smoking Indian statue from a tobacco store, put the blanket over it and escaped out the window to see women. Brookshire plugged the Indian statue in to make it smoke, Sonny's room was full of smoke and was busted! Courtesy of Brookshire!😃
I always loved their white jerseys-orange pants-blue socks combination which they wore on the road from 1968-71 and 1978-79 (and for all of their home games in 1971 too).
22:41 This is almost literally every pass Billy Kilmer ever threw. Rumor has it, he actually threw a spiral once....in a torrential downpour, when the ball slipped out of his hand.
Just like most things. It was better then. All the video and coverage now. But the game , music and announcers made this era magical. They were larger then life titans. Not injury riddled cry babies .
I love the way summerall and brookshier narrate these games, quite unlike today's commentators who want to talk everything to death. They sound like gossiping women.
That's part of why it is to simply best to ignore all the talk/analysis shows. One of the reasons I love going to the games is no commercials no talk. Just live Football.
Remember when football players were allowed to actually touch each other? Fragile Tom Brady would have died of dehydration on the spot if he saw this eras defenders. Packer QB had helmet torn off in a sack, which today would have a defender in prison.
The Chargers vs Raiders game wasn't played at Balboa Stadium as announced. If you watch closely, the scoreboard clearly says "San Diego Stadium" its name until renamed Jack Murphy Stadium.
Those moves in the Charley Taylor segment are REE-DONKULOUS! The play at 33:32 is so outrageous that the referee can't get out of the way and nearly gets killed.
12:50 Whoa, Pat Summerall made a rare goof referring to the Chargers home stadium as Balboa Stadium. The Chargers last season at Balboa Stadium was 1966, after that they moved to the modern day Qualcomm/SDCCU Stadium where the game in this film was played.
What's worse, the way the Eagles played or those white unis they wore forcing the 'Boys to wear the blue jerseys that usually figured in a loss - but not against those clipped-winged Eagles. Those Gi-ants were so bad that even if they had Randy "Big Unit" Johnson throwing, it wouldn't have helped. Love those pithy one-liners that Brooksie and Pat say so well...
The 1970's were not too kind to either the Eagles or the Giants. For most of the decade, the NFC East was a two team race(Dallas and Washington). Then both Philadelphia and New York turned things around in the 80's. And suddenly the Division became very crowded.
One of those years I can't remember if it was 1972 or 1973 but one of those years he had a thousand yards but they put them in the game and he lost yardage so I believe that's why he had 997 and 73 cuz he lost 5 yards on a play if I remember correctly

The dirt .infields should have been outlawed forcing clubs to cover them up on Gameday or at least spread out the baseball schedules for cities with both NFL and MLB using the same venue.
