Totally agree with Gus,....
However the game had set the president on ruling of this inconsistency, way before the bunkers and second referee was introduced into the game,....
Just gotta look at the state of origin....
Especially when it's regarded as the pinnacle of our game,....
So to look at it, from a totally different perspective, crap flows down stream,....
If we can't deal with it, at the highest of levels, where we want the players to aspire too,...why whinge when it happens at pre' finals,....is anyone thinking about it really closely to care?,...
Applaud you guys for raising this issue of decisions in the bigger games when it matters. In many other codes, journalists are scared to talk about a delicate issue in that honest manner but we all know it happens in other codes too. Basically comes down to who is the angriest that gets the decision their way. My issue (and I assume the NRL's aswell) is that Klein let them all go hoping someone else would deal with it. Sorry but as the referee you need to show a bit more responsibility than that.
Why is Klein going to be at the bunker for the game between Warriors and Broncos?. Put someone who is better than him at the bunker.
Honestly i felt sorru for both teams, klein knew he made some horrible calla but he tried his best to keep both teams in the game and wanted a fair game but Klein needs a breather for a year

I half agree with you. It’s still a tough game. The hits are hard, and it takes a real physical and mental toughness. It’s the rules that influence the behavior. It’s not softness.

Their are players that still just get on with the game although be it very few but they legitimately only act hurt when they are actually hurt.
@@nameless1873 the players are coached to stay down so the bunker will have a look at. It could mean 10 in the bin, which could turn the game. You think grant was pretending he was hurt? He was staying down for the bunker.

@7colliemac yeah, it's the typical head throw after you get a slight tap to the face, then stay down till you get a penalty, if it was that bad he should have gone off for an HIA. Too many times you see these nrl players stay down for penalties then get up and play like nothing happened, like the crusher tackles, it's getting worse than soccer

@@crazyprayingmantis5596 reason y i said that is becuase I believe with alot the close games this season have had been manufactured resusltss by ref's while I can't prove it but it's hella sus that's there more betting adds (like an absurd amount) and I don't believe players are involved I think its more third party going on behind the scenes if this makes sense

All you have to do is look at NBA ref, Tim Donaghy, who rigged games in 90s/00s. That’s the blueprint. Yes there’s a margin for human error where the refs aren’t perfect. But, they are the deciding factor, and as you said there’s far too much betting money in it for it not to be rigged. I would say there’s billions of dollars easily throughout the season.

A ref can't make a tackle to stop a try, a ref can't make something happen.
All they can do is make a wrong call on purpose at a vital stage but that's too obvious.
A ref could penalise the crap out of one team and that team could still win.
You would also see it in the betting, big bets move markets, someone isn't going to put their livelihood on the line and not have a big bet to cover the risk.
Since this season playoff started all those calls from refs made all season changed

I'm not a fan of Gould's, but I agree with him about that incident with a few minutes left in the game, which should have resulted in a Melbourne penalty, a team I can't stand, by the way. I noticed that incident straight away, and the people who were watching the game with me also agreed. The referees continue to be a laughing stock, as are the authorities who instruct the referees on which aspects of the game to "crack down on", at any given time. For example, we all know that foul play is more-or-less tolerated in Grand-Finals and State of Origin matches. Pathetic!

He should have called the knock on. Melbourne could have challenged if they wanted to. He didn't use the bunker as he should have.

This is what happens when clowns like Andrew johns demand the game get reffed by feel of the game. Not by the “rules is rules” mantra. People need to stop complaining and start saying the rule is the rule and go with it. The game and the occasion shouldn’t matter if you get penalised for being 0.5m off side you’re still offside and if that costs you a grandfinal then so be it, you won’t do that again.
The "rules" were the "rules" for Craig Field and Kevin McGuinness re rec substances but the "rules" were NOT the "rules" for A. Johns and his rec substance habit leading up to the 2001 GF, where had he not played, Parra would've saluted.

Reality is though the refs are in a bind if they play by feel for the game then big names like johns say it’s good. Until the penalties aren’t blown. If they play by rules is rules then they get hammered for blowing discretionary penalties and making a game stop start. When the players should be blamed for breaking the rules. If they play the rules to the letter the decisions will be remarkably consistent and eventually the penalties will dry up because players won’t test the limits they’ll know just by reading a book.

3:48 Completely agree with Gus which is quite rare. Referees are human regardless of what we want to call them. Humans make mistakes. The problem is the NRL have created a system which is likely to make mistakes. I am not an engineer but I do know a core engineering principle THE MORE MOVING PARTS THE MORE LIKEY THERE WILL BE A FAILURE. Car engines, jigsaw puzzles etc all are made more fragile and likely to fall apart or fail when there are more parts. We have added the Bunker referee to the onfield ref and 2 touch judges. Time to go back to the future. Personally I can live with mistakes like the knock on or Ben Hunt dropping the kick off in 2016. S^&t happens. However when the Bunker has a clear view with plenty of time and no screaming players and crowd to distract them (who also believes touch judges are sometimes afraid to make a call because the crowd intimidates them especially suburban grounds with the fences close to playing field?) they must make the right call. Never will be perfect but officiating is better off without the Bunker

What does Gus think the outcome of his point is going to be? I guarantee the NRL and refs will start imposing harsher penalties in Origin and Finals as well, it's definitely not going to end up with less stringent penalties throughout the year.

If they start being more stringent the penalties will dry up because the players will know exactly where the line is. The players are the problem not the refs.
@@troystaunton254 Obviously haven't played much footy. You can point to 85-90% of the penalties for high contact this year being accidental. Of course there are some careless ones but reality is it's a contact sport and head knocks are going to happen, it's not the player's fault. You think every player who got binned this year just doesn't understand the rules?

Finals games are reffed more lenient, similar to State of Origin.
They let certain things go in big games than they would in a regular season game, deciding a finals game/origin game by giving a penalty goal right in front when the game is on the line with a few minutes to go would cause so much backlash and drama that the NRL try to avoid to cop, is it understandable, sure, is it the right thing to do, absolutely not.
It’s been this way since the inaugural NRL season in 1998, and way before that aswell, it’s not a new thing.
So you're confirming his point that the way the game is officiated is inconsistent, from Reg season, compared to finals.
How's it fair going off what you're saying is the norm, 1 week before finals can be suspended & sin binned for an incident similar to a finals game but during finals time a hip drop tackle isn't a suspension or sin bin anymore.

It was changing the out come in so many games and glad they stopped sending players to the bin for 10. On report and fined and suspended is plenty

All the bunker has to do, is to tell the ref to stop play and look at the decision that was wrong. I cant see why the bunker couldnt have interfered and told Klein there was a drop ball by Grant and change his call. Thats what the bunker should be used for IMO.
