Best Scones recipe| how to bake soft and tasty scones

Flavor: milk
Yield: 16 Scones
Ingredients
3 cups plain flour
1/2 level tsp salt
120 g butter
1/2 cup fresh milk
3tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 powdered milk (optional)
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 large eggs
Procedures
1. Preheat oven to 180°C degrees. Grease 2 baking trays; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, sieve together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and powdered milk. Add butter. Using your fingers, work butter into flour mixture until a crumbly mixture is formed (like breadcrumbs).
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, white sugar, vanilla essences, and milk. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and stir to combine.
4.Turn dough out onto a lightly floured work surface; knead lightly and shape into a round. Roll dough out until it is 2,5cm thick. Using a 7,5cm biscuit cutter/ small glass, cut out scones and transfer to prepared baking trays.
5. In a small bowl, beat remaining egg and brush the top of each scone. Transfer baking trays to oven and bake until golden brown and cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer scones to a wire rack and let cool slightly before serving

Did you use a cake flour or self raising flour?
Cake flour
I'm sure it's cake flour because you only add baking powder if you using cake flour. Because as far as I remember my mama told me self raising have most the dry ingredients. But it only good to use self raising if making certain things. Cake flour with baking powder is best raise quite well.

Out of all of the many RUclips videos on how to make scones/biscuits, this one and it’s method makes the most logical sense. I would tweak the ingredients slightly and not roll out as thin as is done in this video, AND definitely NOT use a glass, but a proper cookie-cutter. Using a glass compresses the air inside the glass, which cannot be good for the scone being cut!
Is it unhealthy? We ate cookies cut ka glass throughout childhood and still do it. Please elaborate some more on the compressed air?

Can I not add 3 tsp on baking powder instead maybe just add 1 and a half tsp of baking powder cos mine had a bitter taste?

Thank you for this recipe. Tried it yesterday, the taste is good however they aren't soft like scones. What could I have done wrong? I used barcabonate of soda.
It could be that your oven was too hot or air was getting in. I experienced this with my oven, when I changed the oven my scones texture is not the same anymore. The oven I use now is too hot at the bottom

Powdered milk is optional. It’s just for flavour

1. Banana

To replace one egg, simply mix 1 tablespoon of flaxseed powder with three tablespoons of water and mix until gelatinous.
3. Buttermilk
Buttermilk is a popular replacement for eggs as the result is soft and tasty. What you have to do is use half a cup (125ml) of buttermilk to replace one egg. Just remember that when making the dough you’ll need to add less water than the recipe may require
You can skip them, and you don't need to replace with anything. Many scones recipes don't have eggs
