Hey, I know it’s been 3 years since this video was posted, but if you are reading this, thank you so much for making this tutorial available. I had a screen issue, and this helped me replace it.
@@aGenuinePresence I did it myself, it's pretty easy but it takes a bit of time. I also used to fix iPhone 6 screens for friends and this was about the same level. Just don't lose the screws and get some proper tools.
Excellent video - thank you. My tips from doing this just now are; make sure the little rubber bits behind the buttons are lined up correctly before screwing down the motherboard (or your buttons don't work) and make sure that the little ribbon wires are fully inserted before closing the tiny clamps (or the screen lights up, but no picture appears, or the touchpad is unresponsive). I've finally put it back together correctly and everything now works, happy parent, happy kid!
Thanks for the video, found this because my 2DS happens to have the same issue and I don't want to abandon all the games I have on it. The tutorial you may is visually easy to follow and I will use it as a stepping stone.
This video was perfect for me. I came here because I was given a 2ds for free. Upon looking at it I noticed it was a bit different from the bunch I’ve seen before. I googled it and come to find out it’s the Zelda ocarina of time remake limited edition 2ds!!! I’m so excited just got to fix the screens and I have a beautiful handheld to add to the collection!
Nice teardown. Not overly drawn out, yet covers what needs to be done. Considering taking mine apart to clean the screen, as it had soda spilled on it at one point, and the screen internally has residue on it yet, but otherwise works great.
@@TotalKommando I have not watched many of your videos, but if you consider this a lower quality video, I dare say that this is better than many RUclipsrs high quality ones.
Thank you for making this video! It was super easy to follow your instructions. I just finished replacing my son's broken screen and he is ecstatic! His 2ds screen has been broken for about a year and he was really disappointed when he thought he had lost all his games. I appreciate you!
I know replacing the screens is cheaper, but 3DS game saves are actually stored on the game cards! As long as you keep the same game cards, you'll keep all your saves and progress :)
Thanks a lot for the neat instructions! I must admit that you're awesome in delicate work! Because the cables are extremely delicate and tiny, however, they don't break or tear easily because your instructions are so clear. One thing I want to highlight here, there is a hard plastic stripes, one big stripe and two tiny ones, they are on the back side of the screen, I guess, that plastic is for insulation with motherboard. I removed that plastic (indeed hard to remove) and then stuck it with the new screen. The screws are little bit tricky, however, I recommend to have 4-5 little bowls to place the screws as you remove! The black double side tape is the worst to adjust on the new screen, well, not impossible, need patience!! Everything else goes with this video, the 100% goes with video and you're good to go! Much much appreciated 😊👍!!!
Bought a decently used 2ds a few weeks ago; the Y button didn't work but thanks to your video I could open up the console and clean up the contacts. Everything worked afterwards, thank you so much!

Great video. It really helped repair my daughter's DS. She loaned it to her 6-yr-old brother and he broke the screen. He got mad because he was losing and decided to bite the screen, if you can believe that. She had taken really good care of it all these years. Needless to say, he has been banned from all video games for the past 6 months and had to pay for the parts out of his Christmas money. The top screen had a small dent where the bite mark was and I thought I would take your advice and remove it from the outside, but I'm having quite the difficulty in doing so. What kind of suction mechanism do you recommend to get it off?
No worries, you can try 2 things, 1 - shaep new razor blade from a box cutter and a hair dryer to warm the screen up for the glue and try to carefully pry it like that 2 - heat it up with a hair dryer and get one of those phone repair suction cups from amazon or any suction cup hook that has a strong enough handle that wont rip hope this helps

Not worth going to anyplace to repair one, you might as well buy a working one for the price of a repair at a shop. Get your self a cheap screw driver kit, and go for it, worse case is you lose some screws, which you can just put somewhere safe and take your time. That means the screw holes are stripped, so to get it out without breaking it open, try applying some light open force using a wedge or by opening it by hand if the other sides are free. While you are doing that, unscrew them : ) gl

I thought I would have to change my touch screen because it stopped working, as did most of the buttons. It was a crumb of food under the plastic piece that holds the touch screen in.
URGENT!! I flipped over the console after taking out the screen and a small rubber circle came out and i dont know where it goes i need help! Is it important?
a couple years ago my 2ds fell and it broke in the same way as the beginning of the video, do I have to change both the screen and the digitizer or just the screen?
The top and bottom "screens" are actually just 1 big screen. If you are talking the bottom digitizer, you wont know until you replace the screen to know if the digitizer glass is still functional, if you can find it cheap enough might as well buy it as backup.
- Digitizer is the touch screen part glass panel that goes on the bottom ( has a little connector ) it sits ontop of the LCD Display ( the thing that projects an image) - Display is what displays an image (in this case its 1 big screen that is just divided between 2 "screens" - Display window is just a transparent piece of plastic that goes ontop, its there for protection and looks
followed your tutorial and I got everything in place, however when I boot my 2ds the light turns on and then the system cuts off, not sure where I might have went wrong
2/3ds systems won't start unless all the ribbon cables are connected properly, so they're are either damaged or not fully connected. open it back up and check your work
I have one more question if I get a 2ds from eBay and it has a pre installed game and my old 2ds also has a pre installed game can I transfer the pre installed game to a different 2ds and have them both?

Ok so I followed the video and now after putting it back together I power it on and then it turns back off, am I doing something wrong? I’ve checked all of the ribbon cable connections too
Maybe something is shorting or you got a bad replacement part, try taking it apart gain and check for any loose pieces of metal that might be shorting
check the ribbon cables are clean and the ribbon cable mounts are clear from anything being inside of them.
Was it water damaged?
@@TotalKommando no the screen was just stepped on but then I tried putting a different screen from another 2ds in and took a closer look at the ribbon cables and seen that it have a tear in one so I’m gonna have to buy a replacement screen
@@3xskullcrusher782 rip
I broke one of the smaller ribbon cable latches what do I do
Yay I can finally fix my screen
I broke the screen without breaking the digitizer
My best friend gave me his 2ds before he switched schools and both screens are knocked out. I also think tbe volume might be broken since when i turn it up there is no sound.. I want to try to fix it myself but I'm not a expert at all so I'm scared I'll damge it more. Is there some type of store that fixes 2ds for cheap or would me fixing it be cheaper??
Just try calling around places that do electronic repairs near you, ask them if they fix em
What screwdrivers do I Need? What models do I need? Do I need 2?
you only need a PH00 screwdriver
You missed a 'make sure'
Could I also use this to clean the screen from the inside? There's some dust inside of mine that I'd like to get rid of
Yes, however it might be easier if you have a suction tool and a hair dryer, so you can pop open the front top glass without taking it apart fully
@@TotalKommando really? I didn't know I could do thatDo you have a video on how to do that or could you lead me to a site that could tell me how?
@@alexarmendariz9900 Is it only your top glass that needs cleaning, if so basically the suction tool is just a section cup with a handle, you use the hairdryer to soften the adhesive glue and then you put the suction cup near an edge and pull as you heat it, then it should just pop out. Don't know of any tutorials that do that specifically.
Worse case you can always open the whole thing up and clean up everything while you are at it.
@@TotalKommando yeah I got a 2DS second hand and it seems like they replaced the screen but they didn't do a good job at removing all the dirt from between the screens
@@alexarmendariz9900 should be a fun project, good luck : )
Will it matter if the replacement screen is dusty as I started fixing it before and forgot about it
If you dont mind the dust then no
Sigh a back in the game employee must've broke the black plastic piece from my l button... Is there a free way i can get my l button to work without soldering in a new one or taking it to a repair shop
I thought I would have to change my touch screen because it stopped working, as did most of the buttons. It was a crumb of food under the plastic piece that holds the touch screen in.
LOL
is it just me or is the gold one that is inside are like impossible to screw out
Thank you!
This video was very helpful 😊
4:42 I flipped my 2ds like this and the parts just flew off and I lost some of them.
How do you swap out the home button?
URGENT!! I flipped over the console after taking out the screen and a small rubber circle came out and i dont know where it goes i need help! Is it important?
So much easier when there's no hinge
a couple years ago my 2ds fell and it broke in the same way as the beginning of the video, do I have to change both the screen and the digitizer or just the screen?
The top and bottom "screens" are actually just 1 big screen.
If you are talking the bottom digitizer, you wont know until you replace the screen to know if the digitizer glass is still functional, if you can find it cheap enough might as well buy it as backup.
@@TotalKommando okay thanks!!
The buttons and the touch screen on mine don't work idk what to do
Where can I buy one if those blowers?
Hiya, could you run me through what the Digitizer, display and display window mean? I just wanna make sure i don’t purchase the wrong thing
- Digitizer is the touch screen part glass panel that goes on the bottom ( has a little connector ) it sits ontop of the LCD Display ( the thing that projects an image)
- Display is what displays an image (in this case its 1 big screen that is just divided between 2 "screens"
- Display window is just a transparent piece of plastic that goes ontop, its there for protection and looks
Do you know where i can find the motherboard
followed your tutorial and I got everything in place, however when I boot my 2ds the light turns on and then the system cuts off, not sure where I might have went wrong
2/3ds systems won't start unless all the ribbon cables are connected properly, so they're are either damaged or not fully connected. open it back up and check your work
I don't know if you will reply but should i buy 2 2ds with a broken screen and repair them 50 dollars?
If you can find the screens for them, and digitizers just in case they are also broken, and you wanna have fun, why not lol
@@TotalKommando I found the screens on Amazon for 50 dollars and I need two of them so 100 dollars
if the cost of repair is the close to a fully working unit then maybe its not worth it, I think its too much
I have one more question if I get a 2ds from eBay and it has a pre installed game and my old 2ds also has a pre installed game can I transfer the pre installed game to a different 2ds and have them both?
very good tutorial but i havent done anything like this before so im scared that i would just break it 😭
Where are the links to the replacement digitizer? I can't find them.
I have just updated the links, its hard to find them on Aliexpress and the store pages I had listed were gone.
tried this hut 2 of my motherboard screws are threaded- any advice?
Add some pressure as if you are prying it open while you unscrew the stripped screw.
I got several of these comments on this video, so I will make sure to make a video tutorial on stripped screws in the future.
