So, I did this with nail polish remover. I rubbed it with cotton balls and well, it ate right through my plastic and now I have to buy a whole new body.
Thats because there's 2 types of remover. Acetone and acetone free. Acetone will melt any glue and some pladtics. I use straight acetone to reuse tires but it'll eat any paint/plated finish. Something like all black wheels that are dyed will be fine.
+Felix Rivera Thanks Felix. As i state in the video, i was trying to figure out a way if i wouldn't have nitro in the house and couldn't get my hands on it. Nailpolish remover will get the job done. However, i have to point out if one tries it, to use the non-aceton containing version.
Great video...seems to be really time consuming but good to know as an alternate method to strip the paint. Thanks for making the distinction warning us to get the non acetone version of nail polish remover. =) Liked!
+Susan Millard Thank you Susan. Normal Tamiya PS paint contains about 3 to 4% of aceton to make the paint stick. However, aceton makes the Lexan brittle. This Nailpolish remover contains 8% Aceton. So the non-Aceton version is a whole lot safer. This is just another option and will work perfect when doing small spots, like i had on the Rubicon bodyshell whilst painting/spraying the headlights by accident.
I should point out guys, if you try this. To use the non-aceton containing nailpolish remover. I did this on my own risk risk. Aceton will weaken the lexan a bit. Your wife/girlfriend will tell you there are 2 version. The non aceton version also smells a bit nicer :)
Actually I found that wet sanding the body with a fine grit works best as it doesn't leave ugly scratches and the body is left with a smooth finish afterwards that can be repainted. Did it with the middle of my touring car's spoiler, it now has a frosted look but that was because I couldn't find the fine grit sandpaper I had lying around so I ended up using a harsher grit before I eventually found the one I wanted after all was done. The frosted appearance looks cool but I believe had I found the finer grit first the result would have been even better.

MEK is no good for Lexan either; if your paint has MEK in it, you'll need a good plastic primer and use very light coats so the MEK doesn't eat through the primer.
So interesting , I messed up my rc body with petrol and it started cracking so I have to buy another , I did not know the nail polish remover actually could do much better yet I had one as I know is tends to melt plastics
I also I also used nail polish remover to get the paint off my body and it came out really good a little foggy like you said but it is what it is there is no way in heck that I was going to use brake fluid I think it would eat the Lex on body will cause it to dry out and crack brake fluid is very corrosive so I went with the nail polish it seemed like the wise thing to do and thanks again for this video I got all the paint off my lexan body and no time and I even use the same pads that you used to wipe it out with Ellsworth good so thanks for the tip my friend
No : ) The Tank RC channel here on RUclips has a video showing how to use Tamiya Paint Remover wich comes in a bigger container also. But for smaller areas a small container of Paint Retarder is fine and does the same job. But his video shows how to do it, so I will recommend to have a look : ) :)
Without sarcasm, that is absolutely true! But as we all know, there are many amongst us who cannot afford a new body, but do have some change left for remover.
i have the problem that the rc18t was only made for a short while... losi bodies fit and any current shells unpainted people want 40-50 bucs for plus shipping... like ill just buy a used decent body fix and structually reinforce repaint and use
I actually painted a body which was my first one and the paint cracked for some wierd reason is there a way to prevent that? And are you supposed to use a spray paint for bodies?
the hazing is definitely from the acetone, acetone is added to plastic paint like the tamiya paint to etch the plastic so the paint will adhere better but the amount of acetone is so minuscule that if you could see the etching itself without the paint it probably would be barely be visible to the naked eye if visible at all......
unfortunately, it causes the body to lose its shine and thats a real pity. The acetone causes the Lexan to mist so your next paint job won't look as great as the first
They do have a stronger grade nail polish remover call commercial grade acetone but it might be strong enough to even melt the plastic. But defeinely will save you time.
+Kevys Rc & Music Thanks friend. Brake fluid sure is another option. This is just another option when there is no brake fluid around. Now i did an entire car, but as i said in the video: when i by accident sprayed the headlights of the Rubicon during the build, this was a perfect solution.
+1967illya your welcome i tried brakefluid once and it took for ever and what a mess .. i had my shell clean in 10 min with carbcleaner you just have to remember to wash the shell with soap and water really good after ward before you paint and make sure to only use paints made for lexan i learned that lesson the hard way
Couple of weeks back a friend did the experiment of using a normal non-Lexan paint on a body. Bad idea.... :) I used normal paint only on small places. But yes, specific lexan paint is always better. Due to the 3% aceton in there that will make the paint stick.
That has never been a secret. I mentioned such in several video's.
Dude chill. u can own nail polish remover and be a guy . You are so uptight about it lol actually making it weird yourself . You don’t need any story or alibi to say why you used nail polish remover and why you have it there no need to explain that to us. It’s all good bro and btw thanks for video good information!
I did my first paint and it cracked and this is a great option for the budget builder like myself. Thank for your time.👍👍👍
So, I did this with nail polish remover. I rubbed it with cotton balls and well, it ate right through my plastic and now I have to buy a whole new body.
Me too...
Damn, that sucks man.... I am sorry. Personally i had some pretty good results.
Thats because there's 2 types of remover. Acetone and acetone free. Acetone will melt any glue and some pladtics. I use straight acetone to reuse tires but it'll eat any paint/plated finish. Something like all black wheels that are dyed will be fine.
Lol " IT'S A STICKER!?!" HAHA AWESOME!!! Thank you for the video!
Acetone does hurt polycarbonate.
Your paint is gone but the lexan shell is cloudy and will be bad to be repainted from inside
Thank God I painted a lexan FR-S body for the first time for my 4tec Traxxas Mustang GT and this took the paint clean off!! Now I can give a respray.
I've used nitro fuel which took the factory paint off a lot easier than nail polish remover.
+Felix Rivera Thanks Felix. As i state in the video, i was trying to figure out a way if i wouldn't have nitro in the house and couldn't get my hands on it.
Nailpolish remover will get the job done. However, i have to point out if one tries it, to use the non-aceton containing version.
Mahalo...found the best method I believe for removing paint from LEXAN.
Great video...seems to be really time consuming but good to know as an alternate method to strip the paint. Thanks for making the distinction warning us to get the non acetone version of nail polish remover. =) Liked!

Now that is a clear story! I appreciate that. Learned something....

Acetone eats lexan. Lol. It's cloudy because it ate the plastic
Just used brake cleaner on a losi 4.0 body and it ate through it.........now i need a new body great!
Derrick Dorris that sucks man! :(
I think people are getting brake cleaner confused with brake FLUID. Two completely different things.
@@CatFuzz71 I was thinking the same thing
1967 was a great year. It's the year I met the world 09/05/1967 at 7:am.
Hell yeah! :)
Does this work wit any rc body like the bodys that come on the store-bought RC cars
Bro...😂...hell that is consuming!
Next time use Breakfluid, and swab it over & leave it over night. next day ur old paint peal off like nothing. 😉
Silent Control brake fluid
Thanks for posting this helpful😁👍
Glad i could help!
Will it compromise the Lexan
No...The non-aceton version will not. The remover with lexan will make the lexan brittle if you use a lot it.
Y como quedó. Lo pintaste después ? Quedó bien brillante o quedó muy opaco
Yo eh hecho eso en anteriores body y me an salido bien checa en mis videos tengo uno con un granite4x4 body and con fs racing victory
Graag gedaan!
I did mine using 96° rubbing alcohol
could i also SOAK it in nailpolish remover instead of doing it slowly bit by bit
Pickles HD lol... that would require a lot of nailpolish. Yet, some scrubbing will be needed 😀
tks
I tend to use Tamiya Paint Retarder for removing paint on lexan bodys and plastic parts :)
Does it damage/fog up the lexan?
No : ) The Tank RC channel here on RUclips has a video showing how to use Tamiya Paint Remover wich comes in a bigger container also. But for smaller areas a small container of Paint Retarder is fine and does the same job. But his video shows how to do it, so I will recommend to have a look : ) :)
When i used nail polish remover my body started cracking
legendary video bruv thanks from Melbourne:) 👍👍👍👍👍
Interesting - thanks for sharing

I have read Carson Paintkiller should work very well!
That's what i also learned later. Seems to do a much better job!
it will be easier to buy a clear body.
Without sarcasm, that is absolutely true! But as we all know, there are many amongst us who cannot afford a new body, but do have some change left for remover.
Or you cant get the same body new when you screw up the paint on your new rc body😆
No they cost 40$
except for some of us ,our body is a rarebird ,i have a kyosho cooper s body long discontinued ,so a new body is impossible.
i have the problem that the rc18t was only made for a short while... losi bodies fit and any current shells unpainted people want 40-50 bucs for plus shipping... like ill just buy a used decent body fix and structually reinforce repaint and use
I actually painted a body which was my first one and the paint cracked for some wierd reason is there a way to prevent that? And are you supposed to use a spray paint for bodies?
Spray it in REALLY REALLY LIGHT COATS
And do 5-6 of them
does it remove the original layer of paint?
It sure does. Not all too easy. Perseverance is key....
the hazing is definitely from the acetone, acetone is added to plastic paint like the tamiya paint to etch the plastic so the paint will adhere better but the amount of acetone is so minuscule that if you could see the etching itself without the paint it probably would be barely be visible to the naked eye if visible at all......
with or without acetone
Without!
Kruidvat steeds verrassend altijd voordelig
On a bright note you got a workout :)
+Joe Conti Yes i did..... :). 5 intense hours of cleaning left their marks ;)
1967illya Hope you used both arms hahahaha
+Joe Conti That's the irony. Right is my screwdriver and scissor side. Left my cleaning hand. So my left hand was very muscled the day after ;)
1967illya lolol
unfortunately, it causes the body to lose its shine and thats a real pity. The acetone causes the Lexan to mist so your next paint job won't look as great as the first
It’s not the acetone. It still happens with acetone free polish remover
gracias
Try nitro fule will be clean and clear just dont soak it just dab and wipe
They do have a stronger grade nail polish remover call commercial grade acetone but it might be strong enough to even melt the plastic. But defeinely will save you time.
Dude nail polish in the house and your single😑 lol good video nice paint removal tip
he said its his daughter bruh
I found out the hard way that PVC pipe cement also removes the paint... don't ask. Lol
:p :) lol.....
use heat and nail polish, no elbow grease.
i use brake cleaner and it works great and fast
+Kevys Rc & Music Thanks friend. Brake fluid sure is another option. This is just another option when there is no brake fluid around. Now i did an entire car, but as i said in the video: when i by accident sprayed the headlights of the Rubicon during the build, this was a perfect solution.

it didint work 4 ME
Too bad to hear. I only tried it once, on this specific body. So i have no further experience with other methods.
No good, the body will stay hazy and when the body is painted it will look faded big time
kruidvat hahaha
