- Learn how to paint your own custom RC body shell with this step by step how to video, let me walk you through painting your first RC body shell as he paints up a new 1/10 Ford Raptor 2017 for his 1/10 RC Hobby Grade TRX4 Defender chassis.
Tamiya paints used:
Metallic Orange: PS-61
Flat Black: TS-6
This is a customized 1/10 Hobby Grade Scale RC Crawler that uses a PROLINE Ford Raptor 2017 body shell. The main chassis is a Traxxas TRX4 from Defender. It uses customized tires, rims and bumpers.
As much as possible, I tried to recreate the real FORD Raptor 2017 with a touch of offroad style and my style. Painted using Tamiya Spray paints, I chose the combination of Metallic Orange as primary colour and Flat black as secondary colour. I also applied decals to mimic the real Ford Raptor.
I hope you enjoyed watching the video!
What is a crawler car?
In rock crawling, drivers typically drive highly modified four-wheel-drive vehicles such as trucks, Jeeps, and "buggies" over very harsh terrain. Driving locations include boulders, mountain foothills, rock piles, mountain trails, etc.

Very nice. I also had the same body but different color. For the black trims and bed, I masked and painted from the inside. To achieve the flat finish, I cut on the protective film around the black areas and painted with Tamiya flat clear.
outstanding work, very well done, i learned something today !!!!
Very nice, very clean 👍🏻🫶🏼 well done !
Beautiful job!!!
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Bih look clean af
Awesome. I'm about to paint one extra body, so I got some good ideas out of it. I painted laptops, watches and whatnot as well.
Very nice
🤜🤛
Wow, wish I had your patience and dedication brother.
Nice car! thank you.
Wow. I learned something new today. Thanks! I'm about to try to paint a body with my 7yr old son. This will be very helpful. Thanks! Subscribed
Glad it was helpful!
Looks Great 👍
Amazing work!!
Thank you brother!
Awesome Job man, stay Built Ford Tough
Nice paint work. I have the same color Tamiya amarok CC01. Congrats from Sri Lanka.
Sick man!
Very nicely done ✔️
Thanks ✌️
That's such a cool paint scheme! Love the color choice. Well done dude!
Glad you like it!
Great video! I'm gonna "try" to recreate what you did. I'll probably end up with a smashed black and orange pumpkin thing.. lol
Good video. Well made and informative.
Glad you liked it!
Nice Job👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow, learned reusing window mask, thanks!
You're welcome!
just sharing, some thinners damage the plastic body shells….from experience😩.
Since then i’ve used isopropyl alcohol.
No more damage.
Very well done!!! Could you please put a link as to where to buy the masks for the car windows?? I just painted a body in black, and it looks beautiful.....but the windows are black as well. :-(( I cannot seem to find stick-on masks ANYWHERE on line. and I plan on doing another car soon. Thank you!!!!
Nicely done! I just got the same body and am looking to replicate your process. Thank you so much for sharing. One question though, when you get to the black, do you think it would have been easier to just x-zacto knife the overspray film on the parts you wanted to paint black and then just spray the whole thing black? This is the only thing I am considering on changing from your video and just wanted to reach out to see what your thoughts were.
What you said would have been easier, but you must also make sure that you don't damage the body shell and the film is firmly applied to the body during painting. I prefer to do the masking myself because it is easier to see if there are adjustments needed and fix.
is primer necessary? just wondering if i need to spend another 11 on primer
Looks awesome well done, seems to be some critics in the comments....thanks for the tips!!!! Good job 💯
IM ABOUT TO PAINT A RC RACE TRUGGY TAIYA BRILLIANT BLUE AND BRIGHT SILVER WHICH COLOR FIRST THE BLUE
Do you have to be sure to clean any soap residue from outside the masked area before painting?
Yes. Just to be sure that the surface is clean before painting.
so TS can be used on RX lexan body? Does it adhere well? I see some minor scratches in the video
Yes it does adhere. Unfortunately, the matte black paints can be chipped off easily specially when hitting or sliding on rocks.
Just a couple of questions because I'm new to rc's.
1: Is there a specific kind if soap younise before masking the windows?
2: do you have to use a damp cloth to rinse away the excess soap on the body before drying it, or do you just give it a wipe with a dry cloth?
To answer your questions:
1. Any will do but I suggest to use a dishwashing soap.
2. Yes. You can use damp cloth, it's much faster to clean that way.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.
I'm looking forward to giving it a go on my ftx rock van.
@@BBStudioPH Yeah, dish washing soap cuts through any oils from your finger prints since it is made to clean grease.
BRUH!? wow
Wpould it be possible to use Plasti-Dip paint, so you cab just pull it off and change colour when bored of it?
Yes
Thanks for sharing. Any reason you didn't paint from inside everything to be glossy!
I don't like the wheel fender to be glossy lol
@@BBStudioPH 👌
Looks sick. What front bumper is that??
Some China metal bumpers.
What kind of shampoo? What's the ratio of shampoo to water?
Awesome work!
3:1 Water:Shampoo Ratio
Needs a texas longhorn decal on the back window
That's a great idea! ❤️
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeett
hai bro, the outer body paint, does it last long? bcoz im about to paint mine.😅
It depends on your use brother. Make sure that each layer is completely dry before painting another layer. Just take good care of your body and it will last long.
@@BBStudioPH i paint all the fenders with 2 layer each..i hope it last long😅😅😅
@@bluemoon3407 put some top coat layer for additional protection 😊
Should have outlined the windows too.
What do you use to smooth out the edges
Sand paper 200 grit. Wrap it on a bottle or small can if you want to smoothen the fenders arc.
Tamiya TS paint on Lexan? this a no no, should be PS?
Should be PS but I didn't have any problem using TS on a Lexan
@@BBStudioPH yeh it goes on fine & looks no different to the TS, only difference is PS doesn't flake & has flex, so if/when the lexan shell takes impact and bends, the paint wont flake off ;)
@@tizdaz5698 Thank youfor this bro! I will use PS next time :)
Im shocked the TS paint didn't eat the polycarbonate plastic..........
my main concerns would be either that or it just chipping/flaking off when the body flexes. any update on how that held up over time because that's very interesting (recently built a 97 celica monte carlo body and it's stickers were just a nightmare, planning to build another but not sure if I should paint the livery in to the body as the PS paint doesn't seem to leave the cleanest outlines or perhaps apply something like this to the outside which would definitely be easier but aforementioned concerns)
Nah it won't eat it. It's just not flexible like the PS paint.
Salut my friend super car . super video subscribe subscribe
Magnifique , mais pourquoi peindre par l extérieur, la parie noire , à la longue la peinture s en va ,
Do you really need to paint the underside also? Wait, it's only the underside that gets paint?
Only the underside is painted to achieve the glossy finish.
Why didnt you shoot the black from the inside
That would result to a gloss finish.
@@BBStudioPH could you not sand the outter surface with wet and dry to remove the shine that way the paint cant be scrapped off the outside of the body
I noticed you peeled the protective paint off and then remasked to paint the fenders, bed and hood vent. Im curious why did you that way?
I want to achieve the flat black finish for fenders, bed and hood vent that's why I painted it on top of the body.
I know that. You could've just left the protective film and use a hobby knife to trace score the fenders and peel that section off. It was just extra work you did I was curious about
@@JumelCastanares sorry about that. I am just more confident in doing that technique plus it helps me visualize the outcome that I want. I am also afraid to scratch the body. 😊
Decent. Now it needs an interior.
use nail remover
What exactly is the shampoo method? Instead of explaining that we get tortured with weird music
Now, learn how to do it right and make another video
I will soon!
Video is good if you can get through the stupid music
Nice Video of How to NOT paint your RC Body...
Why?
@@TirolChris71He does not wash the interior of the body to eliminate molding residue, the first layer of paint is too thick, 3 or 4 thin coats of paint is better, 2 or 3 final coats of white paint enhance the color and protect it. I'm not sure the paint he made resists for a long time...
@@G.M.. ok, thank you🙂
Can you post the link of you doing it better?
Nice job, man. I think you could have saved yourself some hassle while spraying the flat black on the outside shell by using the overspray film as your mask and cutting out the parts to be painted.
It's more prone to damage on the outside. One bump and you'd see the color underneath.
For sure you don't paint an rc car on the outside! Here a good example of how NOT to paint your rc body
