Sting does his thing not too enthusiastic, but still great, Dominic Miller plays fine - but Chris Maas makes you constantly wish Stewart Copeland was there...
At North Sea Jazz, it is prohibited to make recordings with professional film or photo equipment. However, modern phones can do a lot. The recordings were made with an iPhone 13 mini and a Ulanzi ST-27 tripod adapter with a Leofoto MT-03 mini table tripod for stability and then edited in iMovie.
Anything Sting does with these guys, he could do with Stewart and Andy, but he wants to control everything, and only wants those that follow his orders in the band. Of course he should get shit for this, he is one third of a great effort. But I STILL love his contribution to the music, which besides his voice and base, is debatable.
he's capable of doing some decent light jazz with capable musicians, but this is just his pop/rock stuff, so it doesn't really make much sense beyond...star power
FYI: North Sea Jazz stands not only for jazz but also everything related with soul. Blues, Free Style jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Electronic... you name they've got it.

For me however the variety was the reason (beside that it became too crowded for me, probably the main reason) that I didn’t visit NSJ any longer after 22 years, more precise when it went from The Hague to Rotterdam. In the early years it was more jazz focused. But it’s okay.
