I feel your pain! I bought that exact same truck. 2018 f150 5.0. My first brand new truck as I’m a young guy and have always wanted an f150. My dad had a few F150s growing up that were always flawless trucks. This is the biggest piece of shit truck I have ever seen. So many issues I don’t even want to get started. Engine sounds like garbage knocking and ticking using oil, deceleration rattle, jerking transmission, high-pitched acceleration whistle, warped Dash, A clunk in the back that I’ve had in twice to get fixed and still not fixed. Aesthetically it’s a beautiful truck but the quality of these trucks are literally junk. I wish I would’ve done my research before I bought it, especially the new generation 5.0 which has been having nothing but problems. What do we do though? You’re literally stuck. And when will ford address the issue that these trucks are basically 75% lemons. It’s bullshit
Tikka T3 ford most likely will not fix these problems because they only speak money. They sell so many f150's that's it's cheaper to warranty them, buy them back or pay the court settlements. You're not stuck though. Keep taking it to the dealer to have them try and fix it document things. Then call Ford customer service and demand a buy back.
@@jasoncombs9607 It does suck. I'm happy I didn't get the 5.0. I knew of the problem before I bought my truck. I just ended up getting the 3.3 v6. All i really needed. It's been great after almost 13k miles. It's a 2018 regular cab xl 4x4. I do have the warped dash though. But it doesn't bother me at all. I never noticed until someone mentioned it on the Ford Forums...lol....
Saw your video two years ago, so what happened did you change your vehicle, I now have 54k miles on mine it's a 2018 5.0, and it develop a weak crank start now, so far any ideas???
I work for a Ford dealership and own a 2018 F150 5.0. It used a little oil before the first oil change a 5,000 miles. Oil use has dropped to a point that additional oil was not required. Engine is somewhat noisy, but that appears to be normal. The oil usage does not seem to be detrimental to engine durability and life. Ford makes a great truck and I really like mine. One must keep in mine that this engine is 12:1 compression ratio with 16 fuel injectors and no cylinder liners in an aluminum block, they will be noisier that the older 5.0.
I just bought a used 2018 Ford F 150 with the 5.0 V8. It is noisy. I ha e called several dealerships and mechanics and ha e gotten so many different reviews i think I'm more confused now than before. Overall decent truck but very noisy.
Sorry you're having those issues. I heard about the oil consumption and I ended up going with the 2.7L. I hear issues on those too, but had to make a decision. I'm sure there's issues with Chevy and Dodge too. Have you gotten it fixed yet? I'm 7,600 miles in on 2.7L and no issues. I do have the dash hump, but I saw it when buying, and I had to look REALLY hard to see it. No one really notices it, so i don't care. No jerks from transmission for mine (same 10 speed). Mine is 2019.
Glad to hear your dealer is addressing your problems. The oil consumption is less because of the PCV valve replacement but it appears your getting the blow-by still. The installation of a catch can such as JLT's 3.0 may help. I've installed it on my 2015 Ecoboost and it seems to help by collecting those contaminants that normally get dumped back into the intake. They're not expensive and to my knowledge don't void your warranty. Keep us posted. Thx.
Hey I looked at a 2029 F150 XLT with a 5.0 and was going to go and buy it tomorrow. When test driving it tonight I noticed some cluckyness with the transmission from 1st to 2nd gear on both up and down shifts. Also noticed what sounds like an engine knock at the bottom of the motor when I bent over by the front passenger wheel. Wasn’t sure if I was just being a bit paranoid because from the purchase price $48K OTD with 0% interest on 72 month note. Not sure what part of SC your in but I’m in southeast NC (Wilmington) and hope that I’m not buying the same kind of problem you have. I would appreciate a response
in the exact same boat as you my brother. I love the truck....but mine is using 1 quart every 1000 miles almost to the t. I had the pcv valve replacement....cannot tell any difference. I have around 7500 miles on it now and thought this might get better....but has not. Dealer is supposed to change my motor soon. I'm just sick over this. I've always been a Ford guy....But this hasn't kinda soured me on them a little. I'm worried about the new engine replacement....is it gonna be just a another engine, or will it be once where Ford has addressed the problem?? Time will tell.
I am concerned. I just bought a 2019 F-150 super cab 5.0. Pretty much the same package you have. Black. Beautiful truck. I have been watching the oil use. After 3,380 miles; less than half a quart. It shifts good. Every now and then a little clunk in drive shaft. I don't think it's a major issue.
Does the 5.0 have direct injection? If so, the gunk on the tailpipe is normal. That stuff is nasty and near impossible to clean off a towel but it is well documented in all makes the particulate matter coming out of DI engines. In fact I have a Hyundai and it looks just like your tailpipe. Also I bought a weathertech sun shade and I love it - I just got the front windshield cover but they are custom made for all makes of cars/trucks and fit perfect.
Bruce Leibowitz it’s direct and port injection. People don’t understand Engines. Oil consumption can be a problem if not addressed but ford has a fix for it.
I have the white version of your truck. My first truck and first Ford product. I purchased the demo/loaner. Mine to this date, doesn't have the oil burning/consumption issue. I check it several times a week just to be sure. The only thing I'm having an issue is the voice recognition. When I say find place, the screen goes off. Taking it to the dealer next week. Good luck on resolving these issues!!
A good way to seat the rings ( in my opinion) on a new vehicle is to NOT baby it but to remember not to get it over 3500-4000 rpm either. The first 30 miles is good time to pull off of red lights and stop signs briskly just don’t rev it out. For all the know it alls this is my opinion.
Build0001 That does nothing, engines are ready to go off the lot. Plus I had mine to the track twice before 1k miles and it burned 1.5 quarts in 1200 miles.
Sammy Duran my guess is it’s the aluminum block with cheap cylinders. No one really know because ford has not admitted to anything yet. Ford needs to pull their head out of their butts. They keep having issues. They offer too many motor options for their trucks. Stick with what works. Tundra only offers one motor for their tundras and they run forever
That’s it? My 17 F150 3.5 EB was bought back last year. My replacement, an 18 3.5 EB is exhibiting the same issues. 10 speed hard shifts, rattling and ticking at startup and Ford can’t figure out how to fix. So far, I have new cam phasers and a TCM flash. Transmission is shifting better, but now I have different noises on startup.
Leje- good luck. Someone posted last night they are on their second buyback. Goodness gracious. Fanboys are posting that I’m making all this up. If they read the comments, there are a TON of people with problems. I’m blown away at the number honestly.
Jason C I’m surprised there hasn’t been more on social media. I’m having the same exact problem with two consecutive trucks. Both were assembled in Kansas City.
Jason C Ford has been nothing but problems since I bought my 2005 5.4 , my 2006 4.6 is Garbage too!! They used to run and last forever w/regular maintenance, now with the eco boost garbage too!!! I’m thinking twice about buying another f150 ford truck Now !! 😡😡
Same pain continues with my 2018 5.0, but no whistling/screeching. I'm back in the Ford dealership tomorrow morning for another oil consumption test (weekly). And I just put on 1300 miles (NC road trip) since last week's test. Mine does seem to have slowed down on oil consumption, but far from stopped. Just estimating, was one quart burned in 1K miles, now seems to be about one quart in 1.5K miles. My exhaust tip was really black. I cleaned it before the road trip and now a good amount has built back up. And those oil consumption tests take about 2 - 2.5 hours at the dealership. As I said before, I will get rid of this truck (not reliable). I agree, looks great, drives great, but not reliable for the long run. Year or two and I'll be in a Toyota truck. I too really regret buying this F-150. It's my first and last Ford. If my engine is approved for replacement, I'll try the buy-back program again (1st disapproved for out of lemon law and still under oil testing).
John- just curious, how many times have you taken it up for 5,500 RPM to try and purposefully break it in? The plasma cylinder liners and PCV value seems to be the cause of the oil blow by. If you think you’re stuck with it, you might consider driving it like you stole it to try and get the cylinders seated. Good luck, too. This has dang near consumed all of my free time messing with this thing. If you had the screeching, you’d know it and if you’re anything like me, it would drive you nuts.
@@jasoncombs9607 I'd say I do that daily (red line) going to work. I pull out of my subdivision on to 55 MPH highway and have to go up a long hill. Of course cars coming are usually speeding at 70 MPH if not more. So I have to punch it if I ever plan to get on the highway. Oil test this morning...almost at the dipstick notch they made (about 1,600 miles). I'll burn over a quart well before 3K miles for the new engine. When approved, try buy-back again. If that fails, when the new engine is complete, trade in for a 2020 Toyota truck (yes, likely lost $, but I want out of this unreliable F-150). Good luck!
If they don’t buy it back, make them. I guarantee you a jury of 12 hardworking people like you will side with YOU versus a big auto manufacturer. I wouldn’t lose the money unless you have to. A good attorney will get you paid for your time, stress and a new truck. Just saying. :)
@@jasoncombs9607 UPDATE. Next week Tuesday is my last oil consumption test. Will be just over 3K and it looks like it'll just make it (burned just under a quart). It's so close. It has slowed down significantly on burning oil, just not stopped. Now I'll say I'm glad it'll pass, so it won't be a "marked" truck that's had its engine replaced, so no attorney need (within the TSB spec). I'll just trade it in this fall when the 2020 Toyota trucks are released. Again, my first Ford and my last Ford...never again. Good luck with your Ford. They're definitely great looking and riding trucks, just not reliable.
Any update? Whistle fixed? Ecoboost engine does that when the exhaust manifold bolt breaks because it isn’t strong enough to support the turbo. Could (have been?) The exhaust escapes between the header and head making a whistle noise.
Take it to some where there is a dyno and isolate where the whistle is coming from. You can hook it up to computers and monitor everything as you try to isolate the source of the whistle. Watch the gearing and rpms and see what its related to. Things like in gear 2 and rpm band between 1300 and 1800 rpms. With a directional mic on a stick you should be able to isolate any and all sounds. Document what you find and lemon law the truck when they can't fix it.
I have had zero issues with my 2019 5.0. Ummmm the black on the exhaust is not oil it’s from the direct/ dual injection. All GDI engines do that. This all reminds me of when I bought my 13 fusion EcoBoost. I was concerned from the internet rumor mill of carbon fouling and needing a new head by 40k miles. It seems like everyone was going to have issues. I could not find one post of someone who actually had the issue. I have a friend that is a ford tech and guess what, he has seen 2 that have had it. Gotta wonder what maintenance if any was ever done. That car went over 150k before I sold it. All I ever did was oil and filters, brakes and tires. I did have the steering rack replaced before I sold it tho. My point is Ford makes a lot of vehicles. Are some gonna have issues? You bet. If you want perfection buy a Ferrari. All the GM vehicles I have bought have been complete junk. All my Chrysler’s have had a lot problems. My daughter has a 2015 compass that has WCM replaced 2x, 2 new sets of keys which wasn’t covered under warranty Chrysler says keys are a wear item?!?!?! Both rear wheel bearings replaced at 42k miles. And now the temperature control knob doesn’t work. All I can say is all my Fords have been the most dependable vehicles I have ever owned.
FOR ALL 5.0L OWNERS ATTENTION if your truck is burning oil here is how to fix it . Get a trailer with a desecration load and run it through the mountains let the engine work. If you can’t not do this drive it like you stole it after some hard driving the rings will seal I’ve have 3 2018s and it worked on all of them . Ford doesn’t Dyno break in like the eco bossy and the rings aren’t getting set right if all you do is put around and never tow.
Nothing, 5.0 oil consumption problems didn’t start until 2018 with the Gen 3 5.0. New block without press in cylinder liners came in 2018. The 15-17 (Gen 2) is actually the best variation of the 5.0.
My 2019 5.0 pops or backfires occasionally and the dealers don't know what to do about it.I feel the same as you do about the money spent and what we got for it.Mine has 2500 miles and has done it from the start.
Hay man would really like to see a video of that high pitched noise. I know the pain I’ve been there on a 2001 Chevy s10 and a 2016 Silverado 1500 The 2016 Silverado sounded like the drive train was going to fall out. GM showed me a bulletin said it was normal operation. Honestly it happens you get a bad one every once in a while but when you pay 50K for a “new” car or truck the consumer expects no issues when it happens it seems like there is nobody to help. They keep adding more and more electronics and this is the end result. All auto manufacturing have a few bad builds its inevitable and they will admit it. The dealers are now giving you a lemon law paper work when you buy new well at least here in pa that is the law. You may have to file a lemon law suite that will definitely get there attention and address the problems maybe ford manufacturer will issue you a buy back option Keep pressing them.
Nope. The salesman turned the AC all the way up and was “showing off the radio”. He knew but somehow distracted me. And to be fair, who listens for a loud whistle on a non turbo truck?
No no I totally get that. I just didn't know if it was something that occurred overtime. I'm about to be in the market for a truck. I really want a 19 5.0 but all these issues are freaking me out. Almost makes me wanna go tundra
Insurance is higher on a Tundra due to the crash test ratings. After reading far too much about full size trucks at this point, if I could go back I’d buy a Titan. They’ve been around a long time with plenty of time to work out the kinks. Gas mileage is not great it’s a full size truck. After watching the newest Tundra in crash test ratings, I opted against one. The insurance on an F150 is pretty cheap.
@@jasoncombs9607 Well insurance cost on a Tundra is in the shadows of dependability. FWIW I just renewed the insurance on my Tundra. $305.00 for 6 months. What affects insurance rates more than any other factor is your "Credit Rating/History" and driving record.
You would think that paying 55k for a truck they would do everything they could to help you. Sounds like a nightmare.. is it just a lemon problem? Or is this a trend with the F150s of that year model?
Man, thank you for this video series!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I was going to treat myself to a big F150 truck. I will be buying a new truck soon. Because of your videos, and many others, I will not be buying the F150. Shame, I really like them. That driver seat is so comfy. But I can't afford to spend 50 grand then have the endless issues. Not gonna do it. The only option is still Toyota. Are you listening Ford??? Get your shit together Dearborn MI !!!!! Jebuz.
I had a 14 tundra that I sold to my dad with 200.000km no problems. I’m looking for a used truck this year and was thinking of taking a gamble on a 15 f150 just for the aluminum body . Not any more looking for a 09-13 tundra now
Just for knowledge with it brand new motor it will use some oil until everything is sealed properly as for comestics you can nit pick anything on the market that s mass production even high end cars just look at body line gaps FYI if your looking for perfect vehicle good luck lol
Dallas Harris I have a 2000 F-150 4.6 that runs great. Was going to get a new truck in the next two to three years. Ford has lost me, converting to the Tundra
In frame rod bearing replacement was the fix for me. Cylinder 4 and 8 were all chewed up. Cylinder 8 journal had very little to no bearing material on it. I'm a now tick free besides the noisy injectors. No more embarrassment.
Stevie D hey man my gen2 new coyote engine consumes oil and ticks. I also have metal particles in my oil. Probably bad rod bearings just like you. Im surprised they didnt put a new engine in yours though with bad rod bearings Im sure your engine has metal particles floating around which may do more damage
Jason, have you talked to the dealer about the high pitch whining noise yet? If so, what are they doing to fix that problem. I haven’t seen any TSB on it yet.
Lee- they say it’s normal operation in which I called BS. It sounds like a “whale training whistle”. Think tinnitus or a ringing in your ear. Ive told Ford is not okay and it’s not normal but rather dangerous because the noise literally overtakes auditory sensory. There’s no TSB. They checked the transmission fluid and the certified Ford transmission tech said “all V8s with the 10 speed do it”. If I hired an audio engineer and had them record the pitch and frequency, I guarantee it would be found dangerous to hear while driving.
Jason C I completely agree it’s not normal. From what I’ve read, it’s coming from the new 10 speed transmission. The whine is so loud on my truck, that drowns out the very aggressive catback exhaust I’m running.
Whine or whistle? The low speed noise is what I call the whine. The ear piercing noise happens at 1,600 to 2,000 rpm and the gas pedal vibrates when it does. The low speed whine is normal I think. The whistle is far from normal.
Lord help us. Lol. I’d love to hear it if you can capture a video. The noise is awful but the gas pedal vibration makes it ten times worse. What are you going to do?
I just bought a 2019 ford 150 with a 5.0 and I've noticed the whistle or rattle in my truck on initial take off I went to ford the ford dealer and I was told they didn't hear it but then told me it was normal
My truck does all the same stuff. I'm not paying that much for a beautiful pos. I'm gonna contact Ford dealer bout the whistle and rattling. On top of the oil consumption.
Good luck. One thing to watch for... check for vibrations when it whistles. My steering wheel, floorboard and gas pedal vibrates like hell when it whistles. Ford will tell you it’s normal. It’s not. When they had my truck in the shop they gave me a late build 2019 to drive and it was smooth. Didn’t whistle, whine or vibrate. Ford won’t admit it but they messed up bad, figured it out and fixed it.
Why would you wipe the outside of the exhaust tip? I’d think inside the pipe would be more convincing. Not sure if dirt has anything to do with oil consumption. Lol
Jason C you wiped the outside more than inside. The small spot of black carbon in the center of your little towelette there is the only thing from inside. You’ll notice colors are completely different from black to brown dirt. Can you not see the difference there? I see it pretty pain and in crisp detail.
Not sure the point you’re trying to make. The new dealership I took it to confirmed oil usage and topped it off with 1.75 quarts of oil. Since doing that oil change and having the PCV value replaced, it has used a half quart more. If you’re in denial about Ford trucks using oil, google it or better yet look at the TSB. They are replacing engines left and right. If you’re trying to debunk the video because your life is Ford trucks, sorry. They do really have issues and ALOT of them.
Ford = fix or repair daily. I got a 2000 f150 with a 5 speed stick shift and it’s giving out now 5 gear is giving out but it’s been trough a rough ride
@@jasoncombs9607 A little bit but nothing like the chain rattle. They now say its a normal Characteristic of the engine.. total BS. It also shifts hard and skips gears, I have started a case on it to Lemon law it. Otherwise great vehicle.. 22 mpg on hwy
Lemon it on what pretense? Usually it’s 30 days or more in the shop or three unsuccessful attempts at fixing a problem. Did you get an attorney? These idiots want me to drop off my brand new truck for two to three weeks to repair it. Everyone is like “let Ford make it right”. I will. Give me a new truck that’s worth a crap. Not sure how you feel but this truck is literally a joke. How did they release this mess?
@@jasoncombs9607 Yes I have an attorney... just keep everything documented.. Hopefully Ford does a buy back but they say the engine reliability is fine... not sure how they would know that but a lot of the new 5.0's are having lots of problems.. Like you I am never getting another Ford... Toyota Tundra next time for sure...
Skipping gears is normal, but my 18 has the deceleration rattle and waiting on the PCV valve. Also makes clinking sounds from the engine while accelerating
I just purchased a 2019 on Friday and I hear the noise at very low speeds. I also just checked my oil after seeing your video, and it's not full. Just curious, what made you check the oil on a brand new vehicle?
Danny- where is your level on the dipstick? I saw a hump on the dash and googled it which lead me to the oil consumption test TSB. Checked the oil and it was barely registering on the dipstick. I took it to another dealer and they put around a quart and a half in it to get it full. The tailpipe was black so it had definitely burned oil.
You ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL !!! Especially on a brand new vehicle because they can be defective and if you run it out of oil, warranty WONT COVER YOU !!! Driver Neglected !!!
My work bought a 2018 F150 5.0L brand new it has used oil from day 1. It has 14,000 miles on it now and still uses one quart every 700 miles. Had to the dealership several times did a oil consumption test and they say it is normal I keep taking it back for using too much oil and they keep giving me the run around and are not standing by there product. My advise DO NOT BUY A F150!!!!!!!!
I was always a FORD, LINCOLN, MERCURY guy myself since the 70’s but I think FORD really screwed up the customers with the 5.4 3valve engines, the blowout spark plugs, the shitty AOD transmissions in the 80’ and 90’s, the rusting issues of the 70’s- 2000’s, the bad Sync radios, and now the latest problems with the engines and transmissions !!! Don’t forget the EcoBoost junk in the small cars and now waiting for the bigger vehicles to with with their problems because of all the twin turbos being installed !!! These products have not been fully developed by engineers and are put into customer hands to experience disappointment !!!
I have had over 30 plus vehicles and have driven just about everything. The only vehicle brand I will own now and drive is Toyota or Lexus. In my opinion they are the best bang for the buck and are super reliable. I have always had sport cars like Camaro and mustang but even with those they have issues as well. So my next sports car will be a Lexus GS F. Hope all goes well with your current truck now.
After they get done do the testes try a fram oil filters. I do not use motorcraft oil filters. Yours has the auto start after you stop. Engines ant post to die then start back up I wouldn't have the auto stop start motors Ford made a mistake by putting auto stop start one the 5.0
Chase Embree News flash, all Chevy 1500’s have them in every single engine as well ...but I guess if you go back to an older one they didn’t. Plus, the stop start doesn’t “hurt” an engine when it’s built for it. Electric water pump runs when engine off...look into it. It’s a big nuisance for us, but it’s not harmful to the engine.
Going in today for my oil consumption test. Not happy... Every time I check my oil there is none on the dipstick. 2018 F-150 5.0 Oh yeah the vehicle 10 speed transmission surges forward sometimes when starting from a stop.
dude grow up...you make it seem like vehicles never come faulty....sometimes these new vehicles hit and sometimes miss...you are 42 years old and still sont know that
Sorry to see that 2018 was a bad year for Ford. I think Ford needs to correct there oil pans, because the mustang holds 10qts and f150 8.8qts. It sounds like everyone is turning to the Japanese brand. Well those bastards don't buy anything we make in America because of this trade war. Just hope my f150 makes it another day with my American flag sticker on the window.
All the new vehicles you purchase today are all nothing but lemons and garbage !!!! They look good but mechanically speaking, they all have expensive issues and don’t last as long as they used too!!! 😡😡😡😡
im currently in the market for a truck. live in the south where everyone drives a truck. but someone said to me, "do you ever see ford trucks past 5 years old on the street for a rare 1 or 2?". So i started to look. Theyre all 2012+ and saw one 1999 still on the road. That tells me something. When i see more Chevys than fords for the long term, then the choice is clear. Dont spend 45k on a "well maybe they fixed the problem from 2012 by now and maybe in 2020 they fix the 5.0 issue" attitude. So with that being said i cross ford off my list, especially the new rangers which people who havent hit 12k yet are reporting issues. No thanks, is chevy better? ehh, but i know toyota is on my list.
owned a ford once never again biggest pos i ever had have a chev and two dodges now my 2012 ram 2500 5.7 has the most miles 130000 miles doesnt burn any oil between changes and it is the one that works the hardest of them all, i heard the cyl coating is coming off the block and taking out the rings they had iron liners before 2018
This is awful I don't blame you for wanting to switch to a different vehicle. I would caution you in the future to wait at least a year or more before you buy a new vehicle. Ford had a shit transmission in the late 90s f150 lots of issues usually dying in less than 90k miles. I have a 2011 f150 5.0 so far so good. I wish you luck with your truck if they can't fix it then lemon law them my aunt had to do that to her 2010 f150 random shut offs that the dealer couldn't pin down.
I would get an electric oil change suction pump with a hose and insert it into the dipstick and remove a quart of oil just before you have to take it back to the dealership for final inspection !!! Get another engine !!! Did they mark the drain plug or not ? Otherwise you can just drain it a little !!! F’ Ford !!!
All these new cars are consuming oil way too freaking much this is out of control my old diesel truck didn't consume oil that Breaking Bad I have a Hyundai Santa Fe in the dealer right now that is my girlfriend's getting a new engine for the same freaking reason they tried telling me that one quart every 2000 miles was acceptable and I threatened them with a lawsuit now I'm getting a new engine
I replaced my 18s engine due to scoring in one of the cylinders. I passes someone on a 2 lane road and my check engine light came on. It was a blown valve cover. They replaced it and it seems to be fine except that the NEW engine still seems to be making a lot of noise. My other truck is a 1979 ford f100 with the 300i6 and I can tell you that I trust that truck more than I can trust my 18.
That's right go get you some GM (government motors) stuff. New truck with new engine design, do your own research, 10 speed transmission fresh out the oven. You should start watching some Scotty Kilmer vids and bone up on some expectations.
Yeah, the guy is simply uninformed. He should look up all of the issues the AFM V8 (oil consumption, oil pressure loss) and the horrid GM 8L transmission.
osp80 If you say so, if GM had simply leveraged their assets just 6 months earlier they could have secured private sector loans and survived without a handout from the taxpayers.
There are lawsuits I believe going on now. They all get you somehow sooner or later. My 86 Silverado srewed me over on the side saddle gas tanks and the paint primer issues...now Ford has bit us with this 5.0 liter engine oil with the 10 speed transmission combo problem.
Breaking in is not going to unwarp the dash or making the transmission stop screaming. The oil consumption has slowed way down since Ford put in the newly designed PCV valve. I get to drop it off for at least two weeks for them to fumble with the transmission. I just saw a thread on F150 forum of over 350 posts about the whistling transmission. Unreal.
This is what you get when you buy a Ford. Nothing but problems. If I were you, I would buy a Chevy or Toyota next time because they make solid V8 engines.
Toyota V8 tried and true but Chevy is known for their V8 however they have all the other issues too. Toyota is the better built truck now and its due for a refresh

I wish I would’ve done my research before I bought it, especially the new generation 5.0 which has been having nothing but problems. What do we do though? You’re literally stuck. And when will ford address the issue that these trucks are basically 75% lemons. It’s bullshit
You absolutely nailed it. This man speaks the truth. Everyone says oh it’s a lemon. I call bullshit. MOST are lemons.
Maybe you guys are just little bitches that complain about everything??
@@trudeaumustgo1920 No they are not...my 2019 5.0 is a pile of shit as well
Tikka T3 ford most likely will not fix these problems because they only speak money.
Any update ?
It’s been a few months.... I’m guessing all is fixed now?
My eco boost was having the same issues. I'm starting to think it's a Ford thing..
@@williamrush2112 Smart choice. Good luck!
I have a similar whistle on my 2000 f350 5.4 and cannot figure out what it is
Take it to some where there is a dyno and isolate where the whistle is coming from.
How long did it take them to fix the PCV valve? My dealer had to order the part in and it’s been 2 weeks and still no word
It takes about five minutes to change
Can you get part number and post it ?
FOR ALL 5.0L OWNERS ATTENTION if your truck is burning oil here is how to fix it . Get a trailer with a desecration load and run it through the mountains let the engine work. If you can’t not do this drive it like you stole it after some hard driving the rings will seal I’ve have 3 2018s and it worked on all of them . Ford doesn’t Dyno break in like the eco bossy and the rings aren’t getting set right if all you do is put around and never tow.
Why don't you sell it? Have you been shopping around for other trucks? Looked at any toyotas?
So how about an update video?
Cool just checked my tail pipe with 1800 miles , all good.
No new vehicle should be burning oil period.
What was the outcome of all this.
Did you wait 20 minutes before pulling stick?
Wheres your warranty?
Does that truck also burn gas ?
Any further updates?
I got a 14 f150 5.0L stx 4x4 52k miles....none of these issues, what the hell happened in 15+??
Nothing, 5.0 oil consumption problems didn’t start until 2018 with the Gen 3 5.0. New block without press in cylinder liners came in 2018.
The 15-17 (Gen 2) is actually the best variation of the 5.0.
My 2019 5.0 pops or backfires occasionally and the dealers don't know what to do about it.I feel the same as you do about the money spent and what we got for it.Mine has 2500 miles and has done it from the start.
It has almost 4 months now. Have they taken care of you?
Russell Wood he died from over-stressing
Bought an 2.7 in 2016, just about ready to hit 100,000 miles and have had zero issues, but that’s the six speed transmission
Hay man would really like to see a video of that high pitched noise.
I know the pain I’ve been there on a 2001 Chevy s10 and a 2016 Silverado 1500
The 2016 Silverado sounded like the drive train was going to fall out.
Thomas- it’s on my channel already. Check it out.
Could you not hear the whistle during the test drive?
What affects insurance rates more than any other factor is your "Credit Rating/History" and driving record.
insurance on my new Tundra is less than my High Country Silverado was. If you get a Titan you’ll be back in the same boat.
You would think that paying 55k for a truck they would do everything they could to help you. Sounds like a nightmare.. is it just a lemon problem? Or is this a trend with the F150s of that year model?
I would have traded that truck so fast💨 with a big smile 😊 on my face. The Toyota dealer would had to deal with these mess
Have the same problems on second engine and it is using oil too . going through the oil consumption test again
Same here. What was the outcome?
That 10 speed trans is a Ford chevy co-op, it's whining because of that. Lol
Wtf is going on with ford and the other brands? High price, they look good, but mechanically all junk !!!!! 😔😔
Yea, it does suck. A beautiful truck, my favorite truck matter of fact but Ford has gone downhill.
And WAY over engineered... thus less reliable.
Dallas Harris I have a 2000 F-150 4.6 that runs great. Was going to get a new truck in the next two to three years. Ford has lost me, converting to the Tundra
@@garrettglauser8824 Great move.
Jason C I have both, whine and whistle.
Lord help us. Lol. I’d love to hear it if you can capture a video. The noise is awful but the gas pedal vibration makes it ten times worse. What are you going to do?
I have the same truck not one issue sry to hear that
I just bought a 2019 ford 150 with a 5.0 and I've noticed the whistle or rattle in my truck on initial take off I went to ford the ford dealer and I was told they didn't hear it but then told me it was normal
All Ford mechanics are hearing impaired.
Mine went in for oil change once and was not reading even on the stick.
Seems like maybe you should pull the dipstick out and look at the oil level once in a while.
I also have a 2018 F-150 5.0 and feel the same way with the Oil consumption I am done with Ford! ☹️
are you gonna record that truck scream?
That much oil going out the pipe .... has to be fouling catalytic converters
As for trans whine the new 10 speed does it in 1 of lower gears Chevy uses same trans just the design
Why would you wipe the outside of the exhaust tip? I’d think inside the pipe would be more convincing. Not sure if dirt has anything to do with oil consumption. Lol
Is dirt black? And I did wipe the inside. Need glasses?
Jason C that was my point. I’m not sure the point that carbon and dirt makes. That’s all
He *did* wipe the inside...watch again - his thumb is inside the pipe. sheesh...
I don't own a ford or a chevy but you don't see these kind of problems with the silverado
www.gmpartsonline.net/blog/engine-oil-consumption-solutions Yeah they do with their v8s also. Pretty sad when these trucks cost so much.
Ford = fix or repair daily. I got a 2000 f150 with a 5 speed stick shift and it’s giving out now 5 gear is giving out but it’s been trough a rough ride
Do you have the deceleration rattle when engine is cold like I do on my 19? They are now telling everyone it normal.. what bullshit!
Oh yeah. I have the deceleration rattle too. Do you have the whistle?
Skipping gears is normal, but my 18 has the deceleration rattle and waiting on the PCV valve. Also makes clinking sounds from the engine while accelerating
Please update
It will slow down about 5,000 miles
If new vehicles burn alot of oil maybe the EPA should get involved!
It's too get people to buy more oil
Lol. Now that’s a thought. 👍
I never understood why car companies, (especially Ford for as long as they’ve been around) don’t break in their engines.
Must be your first car, it takes 5-10k the seat the rings properly......
If that's the case then why doesnt the ford company know that it takes that long for them to seat?
Yes. I love my 2015 Ford F150 platinum v8. But, there will be no more ford next time in my life. 😅
You made a mistake lol
You ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL !!! Especially on a brand new vehicle because they can be defective and if you run it out of oil, warranty WONT COVER YOU !!! Driver Neglected !!!
My work bought a 2018 F150 5.0L brand new it has used oil from day 1. It has 14,000 miles on it now and still uses one quart every 700 miles. Had to the dealership several times did a oil consumption test and they say it is normal I keep taking it back for using too much oil and they keep giving me the run around and are not standing by there product. My advise DO NOT BUY A F150!!!!!!!!
it is sad how ford has lost its way with their trucks i have been a ford truck person for 32 yrs will be buying a tundra
Yep Tundra for me too
I have never had a good experience with any Ford product. I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe that has given me great luck so for now I am sticking with Chevy.
I have an 06 Silverado 1500, it has had two previous owners and it has been an amazingly reliable truck.
Yea I think you jumped the gun. I wouldve put at least 7500-10k miles to let things settle in. And never buy new either. My .02. Best of luck.
@@natehawkins2910 think what u want to think.
Going in today for my oil consumption test. Not happy... Every time I check my oil there is none on the dipstick. 2018 F-150 5.0 Oh yeah the vehicle 10 speed transmission surges forward sometimes when starting from a stop.
dude grow up...you make it seem like vehicles never come faulty....sometimes these new vehicles hit and sometimes miss...you are 42 years old and still sont know that
ELbigstah How ignorant and unempathetic, disgraceful.
I traded mine in. I'm not going to a dealer that knows about these issues and ignores them. All normal even oil consumption. Yeah ok.
All the new vehicles you purchase today are all nothing but lemons and garbage !!!! They look good but mechanically speaking, they all have expensive issues and don’t last as long as they used too!!! 😡😡😡😡
Not true
im currently in the market for a truck. live in the south where
everyone drives a truck. but someone said to me, "do you ever see ford
trucks past 5 years old on the street for a rare 1 or 2?". So i started
to look. Theyre all 2012+ and saw one 1999 still on the road. That tells
me something. When i see more Chevys than fords for the long term,
then the choice is clear. Dont spend 45k on a "well maybe they fixed the
problem from 2012 by now and maybe in 2020 they fix the 5.0 issue"
attitude. So with that being said i cross ford off my list, especially
the new rangers which people who havent hit 12k yet are reporting
issues. No thanks, is chevy better? ehh, but i know toyota is on my
list.
owned a ford once never again biggest pos i ever had have a chev and two dodges now my 2012 ram 2500 5.7 has the most miles 130000 miles doesnt burn any oil between changes and it is the one that works the hardest of them all, i heard the cyl coating is coming off the block and taking out the rings they had iron liners before 2018
This is awful I don't blame you for wanting to switch to a different vehicle.
Ford CEO Hackett use to be a CEO of a Furniture Company🤔 What do u expect. That’s like having Bugs Bunny run your company👀
nate love don’t pick on bugs, that’s not right.
Josey Wales 🤣
I would get an electric oil change suction pump with a hose and insert it into the dipstick and remove a quart of oil just before you have to take it back to the dealership for final inspection !!! Get another engine !!!
Did they mark the drain plug or not ? Otherwise you can just drain it a little !!! F’ Ford !!!
Ford’s cost cutting at its finest.
Same age. Same truck. Same problem
Sorry to hear it!
Ford is no longer - Quality is job #1, but Profits are Job #1. Bean counters run FMC in Dearborn.
What business are you in, that requires a $55,000 pick up? I would personally never pay as much for a vehicle as I could buy a house for.
A house for 55k you must live in Africa.
New motor break in. Should get better as it sets in.
me too, very bummed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
55k for a truck. I truly am sorry man
This sucks soooo bad takes the fun out of buying anything new when all these lemons are coming out of the factory nowadays.
Man you nailed it. Instead of enjoying the truck, I have to check the oil all the time and hear the whistle through every gear. Not fun.
Jason C they are all Lemons 🍋 🍋!!!!
These new Ford’s are JUNK!!!!!!!
LOL this guy saying hes going to get a chevy... that will be even more of a disappointment! Chevys are complete garbage
That's right go get you some GM (government motors) stuff. New truck with new engine design, do your own research, 10 speed transmission fresh out the oven. You should start watching some Scotty Kilmer vids and bone up on some expectations.
Yeah, the guy is simply uninformed. He should look up all of the issues the AFM V8 (oil consumption, oil pressure loss) and the horrid GM 8L transmission.
osp80 The US didn’t get paid back from the GM bailout, and never will.
time.com/82953/general-motors-bailout-cost-taxpayers-11-2-billion/
osp80 If you say so, if GM had simply leveraged their assets just 6 months earlier they could have secured private sector loans and survived without a handout from the taxpayers.
There are lawsuits I believe going on now. They all get you somehow sooner or later. My 86 Silverado srewed me over on the side saddle gas tanks and the paint primer issues...now Ford has bit us with this 5.0 liter engine oil with the 10 speed transmission combo problem.
They become sludge and eventually, sooner or later, engine will fail.
dude let it break in do more highway less city
Breaking in is not going to unwarp the dash or making the transmission stop screaming. The oil consumption has slowed way down since Ford put in the newly designed PCV valve. I get to drop it off for at least two weeks for them to fumble with the transmission. I just saw a thread on F150 forum of over 350 posts about the whistling transmission. Unreal.
@@jasoncombs9607 just curious if the transmission whines in all gears?
Please sell and buy a chevy...
Never buy a 4x4 there bad luck
Andrew, may I ask why?
Kinda sensitive for a man. Omg my ears.
This is what you get when you buy a Ford. Nothing but problems. If I were you, I would buy a Chevy or Toyota next time because they make solid V8 engines.
Toyota V8 tried and true but Chevy is known for their V8 however they have all the other issues too. Toyota is the better built truck now and its due for a refresh
im currently in the market for a truck. live in the south where
everyone drives a truck. but someone said to me, "do you ever see ford
trucks past 5 years old on the street for a rare 1 or 2?". So i started
to look. Theyre all 2012+ and saw one 1999 still on the road. That tells
me something. When i see more Chevys than fords for the long term,
then the choice is clear. Dont spend 45k on a "well maybe they fixed the
problem from 2012 by now and maybe in 2020 they fix the 5.0 issue"
attitude. So with that being said i cross ford off my list, especially
the new rangers which people who havent hit 12k yet are reporting
issues. No thanks, is chevy better? ehh, but i know toyota is on my
list.
I see 99s and up all over here. the one in profile picture has 290k that being said i think the 3v tritons are less comon than the 2v here.
