If your pain is inflammation you could start check out ibuprofen. If that doesn't help you might talk to your doctor about Lyrica (it'snota narcotic). It helps me, I have other ideas but them are irrelevant.
I got hurt in a construction accident 23 years ago and being disabled like this isn't for weak minded person.

Francis has a point, when working on my parents farm in the uk we used to do a lot of logging using winches and heavy cables, the farm was about 3000 acres which in the uk is large, we had a lot of forest land that we would clear. One of the winch operators who had been doing the job for around 30 years used to take chances like that, one day we were pulling a massive oak tree up a hill with one of the winches, the cable was not very old and was rated far greater than anything we would use it for, I was at the bottom with 5 of the loggers, Jason the winch operator was at the top with another 3 guys, I saw the tree get caught then twist side ways, however it happened the cable went bang. We heard a lot of screaming seconds later and ran to the top of the hill, what I saw will haunt me forever, Jason who was watching the cable spool on reel was slumped backward over the winching rig with half of his head missing, the cable cut through it like a surgeon, the screaming was from the 3 guys who were grown men just running around in shock at how quick it happened. Cables scare the sh@t out of me now so PLEASE be careful and don’t get complacent.. I love your show so much I wouldn’t know what else to Watch…
Take care guys .. always …

Hey, a few observations here, let's do the important one first. I know that was new cable and you had a rag as well but as an old Navy guy taught me years ago never use gloves if holding a winch line. If a loose strand jags your hand you may get a bit of a rip, if it jags a glove it can pull your hand into the works and that;'s bad, mmkay? Use just the rag, it will pull out of your hand.
That wreck is a tribute to the survivability of Audis, there are a lot of cars in which that would not have gone well.
Glad to see you didn't sell the rollback like you were going to, it's way too handy.

Heavy D, A suggestion for you , build a small 'A' frame that drops into the rail pockets that is tall enough to accommodate a snatch block, so you are not dragging the cable over the side. By using one snatch block so the cable spools straight into the winch, and then feeds the snatch on the 'A' frame you will have better control of direction and less damage to the equipment.

Just some safety tips from ur caring audience! Much love!

Nice recovery, looked easy but please be careful with this.
Looks like your cable had a kwist or nick in it and watch out when pulling to never stand close orvin the way of the cable. If it would have snapped or the one towpoint had broken off someone could have had a bad day or wurse.
Heavy D was just nextto the cable, one snap and game over.

Two things first off this gives me so much more confidence in my VW tow hooks(identical to Audi). Second honestly that looks like it would be savable. The drivetrain looks like it would be mostly intact and honestly doesn't look too bad as far as body damage. I'm sure the insurance will and did total it but it's absolutely something that someone could save and likely for reasonably cheap if they can get it from an insurance auction for cheap and have some basic bodywork skills and equipment.

Hats off to those Audi engineers that designed that tow hook.

    • @JackMacLupus
      @JackMacLupus 2 года назад +20

      Indeed.
Actually back in my childhood every car of a german brand had a non-removable tow-hook on the front and back. Today you only see those "You have to screw it in before you can tow the car" hooks where 95% of the drivers dont know where the hook is stored in their car. Okay, the plus is, you dont see the two hook all the time, only when you need it, but if the driver doesnt even know where he finds the hook it costs WAY too much time.
But still pretty durable, just like the rest of the TT. I saw TT's coming out of crashs in one piece where other cars where torn apart.

My two cents... others have already pointed out the safety concerns so I wanted to offer a different perspective. While it's fun to watch the team pulling off crazy recoveries & stunts, it's really uncomfortable for many in the audience to see team members putting themselves in unnecessary danger. Not only because we know the dangers of standing next to a cable under tension or underneath a suspended load, but we also know there are other viewers who _don't_ understand the hazard & think it's OK because they can see you doing it. There's plenty of room for riskier activities without becoming complacent about safety... far too many safety regs are written in blood and we just want everyone to go home in one piece so we can enjoy watching you guys for years to come. 👍

He uses a post section with a v-notch cut into it. He runs his cables over the notch, instead of the edge of the rollback bed. It protects the cable from damage & catastrophic failure. I was cringing through your entire recovery. Thank you for your excellent videos.

This seems to happen a lot on shows like “Royalty Exotic Cars” and other shows that may be similar to it.
What I don’t understand is why people rent these exotics just to turn around and wreck them and then take off like they do.
Royalty Exotic Cars has the following statement on their webpage:
“Las Vegas' largest selection of exotic cars, suvs, autocycles & motorcycles for rent. NO mileage limits, governors, security deposits, or hidden fees.”
If I was them, I’d rethink the whole “no security deposit” thing. If REC set a security deposit that was agreeable for themselves as well as the renters, I think that this type of thing would decline little by little.

@HeavyDSparks, iv been a het mechanic for the better part of 15 years in the army/civilian side, i cant really tell the model het u got their but it looks like an A1, anyway both the old hets and the new ones are detuned. The new het if i remember right is detuned to something around 30-40% because the power was breaking driveshafts. If you can find a local cat mechanic/dealer around you and convince them to go into the tcm and crank the tune up just a little u can easily get up to 80mph. Granted its probably still cheaper in fuel to haul the het than to actually drive it places haha. Id always hear storys in my unit when they were in Iraq 2005 they had the old hets custom tuned up and were ripping across iraq doing 70 mph instead of the detuned 50-55 and were cutting convoy trips times down by days to a week. I dont think the software we got at work can do any adjustments with the tunes.
