This looks like the best recipe I've seen for a potato bake. I just happen to have all of these ingredients on hand right now so I'm making this for Christmas Eve dinner to be served with roasted chicken crown and all the trimmings. Thank you!
Nice to get a video, where it's not painstakingly slow. I give up on a lot of recipes because of that. Watching 10 potatoes being peeled one at a time does my head in.
This is almost exactly the same as my grandma's scalloped potato recipe! It is so delicious! The only difference is we don't add the cheese since it is already so rich from the cream, and we sprinkle flour between layers of potatoes to help it thicken up.
That’s how my mother made scalloped potatoes too. Using 3% (homogenized) milk instead of cream and no cheese. I like this version but I might leave out the onions and do a couple of layers with Gruyère in between and on top.
Excellent in France we call it a "gratin de pommes de terre". Yours is very nice and certainly very good. There are regional variations like: gratin dauphinois, um, quite a poem too. Different, but delicious. There are potatoes, milk, sometimes full cream, salt, pepper, NO cheese. We pour the potatoes in a buttered dish (as you did for your recipe!) we can also rub the bottom of the dish with a clove of garlic, then we add between each layer of potatoes a little salt, pepper, some small splinters of butter and we start again until the dish is filled. We finish by pouring the milk (or a mixture of milk and heavy cream) Put in the oven and cover with aluminum foil for 45 minutes, then uncover and put back in the oven until the top is golden brown +/- 25 to 30 minutes. Leave it in the oven turned off for a few minutes until the potatoes have absorbed all the liquid (if necessary) With a grilled meat, or just with a well seasoned green salad it is wahou delicious 😋 If you try it, bon appétit. And kisses from France 🇫🇷
I only used half the mushroom sauce & saved the rest as filling for a French Omelette, PERFECT! Topped with copped spring onions; to die for...the end of a perfect life...
Made potato bake tonight when my son and his wife came for dinner....his request. Haven't made it for sooooo long and it was soooooo good! I leave my skins on....that's where all the goodness is!

My son asked for a home made potato bake with bacon for dinner tonight to go with my home made chicken schnitzel. So I thought I would look up some good methods for preparing and cooking on RUclips. I watched a few and I must say that your way of preparing and loading the backing dish was very appealing to me. It was so easy with no fuss in loading the dish, all I need to do is just add the lightly pre cooked bacon to mine. I also appreciate your clear instructions and your recommendations as you worked through step by step. All the helpful hints you gave along the way they makes such a difference in the kitchen, like wiping around the edge of the dish before putting into the oven. This is the perfect recipe to make large batches and freeze it down. 25kg is a fair amount of potatoes. Looks like you’ve got a lot of potatoes to cook 😉. I also have some other great potato recipes on the channel and will be doing more very soon. It’s such a great versatile ingredient. Mushrooms and Bacon would be a great addition to the potato bake. I think you love mustard a lot. I need to try using Dijon mustard...never uses it as I am always afraid of the pungent taste but I think the cream would balance it. Lovely recipe 👌🏻
I was so taken with this recipe that I wanted to make it today, and not have it as a side dish but to have as a main meal, so I placed an order with a well known website who could deliver within a couple of hours (I’m partially disabled and don’t have any means of transport) I halved the recipe and started making it at 2:30 this afternoon, I found it so easy and not just to prepare but, to not have a massive mess to clean up! I put it in the oven for an hour, took the foil off, added the cheese, set an alarm on my phone for 30 minutes, went to sit on my bed to give my sore swollen legs a bit of respite, and fell asleep 😦 the alarm didn’t wake me…it’s now 10:00pm, about three and a half hours since I was to start eating my meal! It was salvageable in bits, but definitely nowhere near as tasty as it should have been! I’m thinking that, since I have enough to make it again I might try in a few days, when I’ve got over my bitter disappointment!
I really like all your recipes that I have tried so far. They are full of flavour and always taste great. Thanks for a new twist on the potato bake, I would have never thought to add mustard, will try this recipe next. Thank you.
I'd really like to have words with hwoever it was that made the rule that tutes must have background noise. It doesn't help that it passes as music for some. I'll watch more and start liking as soon as you cut it out, the video is professional, crystal clear and good.
Thanks for the tip on peeling onions. I have always peeled onions before I cut them which is a bit of a faf. This looks so much easier. The tip on cutting the potato was useful as well.
Thank you for NOT dragging out the prep like so many demonstraters do (eg peeling every spud on camera). 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It's so good!
Awesome looking potato bake .......yum yum!
Good luck with the next try
Keep us all posted
