Thank you Austin, for this masterful breakdown and Rolex GMT game plan. And I love the suggestions from your viewers that I should come to Japan and shop for GMT #4 with you. I think you made the absolute best possible case for the 16710. As for the CHNR, I will make a video talking through some of my thoughts! Thanks again!
16710 on a jubilee bracelet and tritium dial and hands, with serifed bezel insert. I don't value working lume on a GMT=Master II as much as I do on a dive watch or an Explorer II. The GMT-Master II is more a luxury watch than a tool watch. I would never get a tritium version of a tool watch. A tool watch needs to function in the situations it was designed for. On a GMT-Master II the patina is more important to me.
Agree, meteorite and all-gold root beer, no two-tone. Up the game. Only buy watches you love more than the ones you already have. Love my meteorite. Only watch I’ve bought since is a Platona diamond.
Hi Austin. You got something. Not sure what. Nowadays I'm worried about war and humanity and it's such a delight to watch your videos and see the passion and love that you have to your hobby. I like Rolex watches. Own a submariner but couldn't care less about the little details and nuances of each model. Yet every time I find myself watching your videos from beginning to end. God bless you. Cheers 🥂
I know you're very unlikely to get scammed in Japan, but what about Frankensteins? Like in Asia in general people don't frown upon putting aftermarket diamonds or gold bezels.
For real purity …… How about considering the 16760 Fat Lady Coke but with a rare Mk1 dial (no ‘date’ written on the dial after ‘oyster perpetual’)? Lovely piece! 😊
Great video Austin as always. Regarding the 16760 there are two versions. The first generation had the word ‘date’ missing from the dial. I always found that this iteration was the one to own.
Nice one Austin and gday Penny. I handled a 1675 a few months back and it blew me away so I’d probably put the money into one of those and then add a 16710 and grab a few different bezel inserts to be able to mix it up a bit. There’s a lot of options though and don’t forget the wg gmt 2 also came in a black dial in its first series I think Austin mentioned the blue dial, good luck
Wore my Root Beer while traveling all over Europe for two months, nobody ever noticed….it’s a nonsense thinking you’re being targeted just buy one and wear it with enjoyment. Newer GMT’s are great especially the longer power reserve and the two tone Root Beer is a beauty.
London is full of moped gangs roaming the west end just looking for rolex wearers ,they employ spotters , the met has set up a specific team to combat them ,in London wear a seiko .
Penny’s collection coming in hot!! I like the flexibility the 16710 gives you, I would choose an early thick-serif font coke and a crispy 5 digit root beer. Cheers! 🍻
Austin, I will be in Tokyo in December. What are my chances of picking up a Kermit or Batman? Is AD a waste of time? I assume Grey prices will be comparable to America.
Unfortunately, finding those pieces at an AD here is going to be nearly impossible. You probably have a better chance at winning the lottery. Prices on the grey might be a little better than in the US, owing to the weak Yen.
I personally would steer clear of any of the 5 digit WGS (white gold surround) watches. They are just too similar to the modern Rolex to get me excited, personally, and Penny already has a bunch of modern Rolex. I have two new Subs, two new GMTs, and a new Exp II. I got bored with my 5 digits and sold a 16600 and 16710 in the last two years. Instead of 5 digit Rolex, I now have an 1655 Exp II, 1016 Exp, and 5513 Sub (maxi matte dial). The 4 digit Rolex are a really nice contrast to the modern. They have the same, smaller cases as the 5 digit Rolex, but the matte dials, painted indices, and plexi crystals really add a cool vintage vibe that is totally different than modern. I love it! I get into a vintage rut and wear nothing but my vintage pieces for a month. Then I will switch things up to all modern for a month. It's a lot of fun for me and keeps things fresh. I think that there can be pitfalls to buying vintage, but it certainly can be done through trusted sellers and research. I, thus, would recommend that Penny really look at a 1675. Better yet is the 16750. Yes, it's a 5 digit, but get one pre-1984/5 with the matte dial and plexi crystal and you've got that cool vintage vibe but with a quickset date!
Another vote for the 1675 and I love it! There are several for sale near me and I will take another look. The 16750 is interesting as the successor for that model and either would give me a GMT Master instead of another GMT Master II, which I like.
May be not to go vintage at all, no hurry to fill in the 2 slots. Just wait for future GMT Master II, definitely new colours will launch, who knows? May be a new Coke will see the light soon.
They don’t have just one, not two, but three Rolex GMTs. Most including myself will never own one let alone three Rolex’s. I’m sorry if this rubs some the wrong way but this just comes off like rubbing it in. Ok bring on the hate comments. Yes this is sarcasm.
Excellent Austin! Wow!! I love @3:52, and I paraphrase: “while they can go anywhere, to the deepest oceans to the highest peaks…” we can’t take them downtown London
Believe it or not, I was offered one at the AD and turned it down. :( I do appreciate its looks though and I got to see the all gold version and that is STUNNING so maybe that one is in the cards.
The fear of wearing these watches in the U.S. is absolutely overblown and verges on fear-mongering. No one cares about what you’re wearing in your wrist.
@@ALLinHerMovements Try to put a sprite on your left wrist. The orientation is not an issue, after a while. You can always sell it after Rolex discontinue it in the not too distant future with a profit.

really is great to see you back A . really like you are not involved in all the watch politics ~ JDS/CT - be sage
Stay modern. More cohesive collection. Add the Rootbeer and Metorite dial models.

Up the game. Only buy watches you love more than the ones you already have.

What a nice comment - thank you!

I agree
This right here is a real possibility! ❤️
Austin, I'm really glad your back hey from sunny Thailand

still saving and waiting to buy a modern ceramic GMT 2 Root Beer two tone.
It's a beauty!

Yes, yes, and yes!
Waiting for end of review to comment
Hi Austin ✌️✌️✌️
Go for the two tone root beer. No more or less likely to get mugged for that than any of her other GMTs. Round out with the five a 16710 also.
I bet you are right. Maybe, just maybe so on the root beer!
Great video Austin as always. Regarding the 16760 there are two versions. The first generation had the word ‘date’ missing from the dial. I always found that this iteration was the one to own.
I never knew about this version but now it has me even more interested in a 16760!

hey JCB--long time! Yes, I too found the 1675 special. I like it a lot.
Great analysis! Cheers 🍻

If and only if Austin was this passionate about the modern and neo-vintage Rolex Day-Date references...

@@watchsymposium Thank you for your reply. Keep up the content.
Considering there is two cokes and she doesn’t want the 16710, she’s answered her own question.
I wear a Rolex EVERYDAY, no one gives a shit, nor do they notice.
Im biased but tritium 16710 for me
It's a great combo especially if the dial has some creamy patina.

I'm hoping Rolex will do a white gold Coke in the future.
the original GMT is the sweet spot
Indeed it is sublime.

I only wanted the Rolex Master to evaluate my next steps. No hate here, only love.
Root beer and coke, a perfect addition
Absolutely, cheers!
Hi mate
any thoughts on
FAKE rolex sold in Japan???
The only one I've ever run across here in Japan is in this video at around the 5 minute mark:

Brilliantly stated!
Get the lefty sprite GMT when the price is coming down quite a bit. That watch is likely to be discontinued much faster than other Rolex GMT.
Modern Rootbeer all the way!
Believe it or not, I was offered one at the AD and turned it down. :( I do appreciate its looks though and I got to see the all gold version and that is STUNNING so maybe that one is in the cards.
Austin I want to go watch shopping with you in Tokyo. Can we connect?
Modern rootbeer and a cellphone gun my recommendation.
🤣

Wow who cares bout rolex anymore. Buy v8 car 😂
What about a left handed Sprite?
I just can't get with the left orientation. Love the green, though, as that is my favorite color.

Are the prices dropping in Japan
Just been in Tokyo and visited Nakano Broadway. Excellent place - loved Japan ❤
