I still get goosebumps every time i hear that sound, it is genius, Gameboy got close, but nobody can beat the PS1 boot up sound. P.S. Very hard to control regular games with it, but you looked like a total badass playing with it, besides giving you the living dream of having a scifi glove that controlled a mech. I must say it was pretty good for one thing and that's playing flight and mech sims, i.e. Ace Combat 2, Armored Core, Zone of Enders 2nd runner etc. Took some time to get used to it, but had tons of fun playing with it.

The CD player function always astonished me when I discovered it. I thought I was soo cool listening to Deftones on my Playstation 😅.
Adrenaline? Or around the fur?
@@popeizzy2012 When Deftones was good !
@@popeizzy2012 Around the Fur. Even though Saturday Night Wrist and Self-titled are my favorites.
I remember that awesome sound of reading discs, that sound of fast moving lens from one side to the other side of disk
Best opening audio of any console ever!
I'm not a playstation fanboy, i prefer nintendo, but i must confess i'm hard-pressed to think of an intro that tops the playstation 1. i'd have to agree with you. that sounds brings back so many memories, and was always a pleasure to hear.
Jackie Chan - Stuntmaster is still a great game
Such an underrated gem played it like a year ago and loved it!
@@MrTerrorzone2012 Agreed dude, it was a highlight of my younger years, and it still has me playing years later!
I never finished that game without cheat, I always stuck on the train stage.
On my defense, I use cheat because my hand and eye coordination that time wasn't very much that great..
Oh fuck..good thing I saw your comment. I never finished that game as a child cause I keep dying somewhere at the pier o port area I think
Myers omg yes!
It is ok to drop a tear while watching this????
Not sure where you heard that one bro, but no one called the multi-tap the "thing".
NO ONE EVER!
ikr. I'm like "You mean the multi-tap?" Not trying to be rude but strangely I can't remember a single person who didn't know the name of it. Bad example.
I think we called it the multifucker in my circle.
Yea I agree never heard it called that until this video
Twisted metal 2, crash bandicoot, need for speed 2... ah the memories
So many good games on that console...
Haven't thought about twisted metal in a very long time, thank you
Oh that twisted metal 🔥🔥🔥
Loved that twisted metal, think it was 2 anyway been ages
The 1 with spectere
RAMPAGE!
Anyone play Vagrant Story?
Still one of the best games ive ever played and a reboot would make my adult dreams come true and i could die happy having lived a fulfilled life but... the save and storage box save time was painful it took about 20 sceonds to save which if you where in a workshop and then you make something or pull something apart and therefore have to put old weapon or parts from dismantled weapons away could take you up to 10 mins to complete a 2 to 3 minute workshop session.
Rory Moore it was a supremely underrated game. Complicated as fuck for its target demographic, but incredibly rewarding if you put in the effort.
Additional shoutout to Legend of the Dragoon for the same reason.
So. Much. This.
@PixelLightShow No, but now I wanna play whatever that is. lol
Dude seriously! Its Ten-Chu, TENCHU!
Swear he’s doing this on purpose...
He prolly siad it right nonchalantly in a video about Sekiro, despite butchering it horribly here XD
I was gonna say, I thought I was saying it wrong all my life after he said that 😂
Please forgive the nostalgic falcon... But yeah. He said it weird. 😔
Same tenchu (ten-chew)
Awesome game I was fucking obsessed, what other game comes with a create your own levels (with cheats enabled)
Id even accept Ten-shoe.
Tekken 3 and Gran Turismo on PS1....good times
Still playing Tekken 3 on Psp. 😎
I’ve still never played Gran Turismo but Tekken 3 was and arguably still is amazing
Aww man spring of 98’ the memories

Have you ever play jared & labonte stock car game? Your car can get destroyed.
Yes hearing that PS1 booth up always gives me chills, in a good way.
Mention of legacy of Kain made me love this video :)
Me too, but Resident Evil 2 even more so. 😃
Soul Reaver is probably my favorite game of all time, on ANY console. I'd pay top dollar for AAA HD remake!!
@@LAIRDO- Just imagine on PS5 a FULL REMAKE of Soul Reaver , with top graphics, 4k resolution, same voice actors (but re-recorded) , orchestral soundtrack.... i'd have a heart attack.
@@ianluzdub No doubt!! I'm always surprised by how many people don't even know of this game. It's a masterpiece in my opinion.
@@LAIRDO- it surely is. I don't lose hope. Someday we'll see Raziel in HD graphics.
I miss this console, such a great time to game
"Miss" lol
Just buy one
I get headaches playing it now, but still love it !
@@cjt2k hell yeah, I have a soft spot it was my first console
One of my favorite features was how some games gave access to their soundtrack when using the psx as a cd player.
What a flashback... final fantasy 7 was my first ps1 game... thanks for the trip to memory lane guys!
FF VII was when I first heard about Final Fantasy, and now it's one of my favorite series of all time.
Final Fantasy VII was the first PSone game I had that couldn't be completed in one sitting... I didn't have a memory card until a few weeks after buying Final Fantasy VII.
"The thing" is called a multitap. There was one for PS2 as well.
I had two so I could play 6 player games hahaha. I always thought it was weird that with the multitap, and you could only have 5 players.
"The thing" was not exclusive to playstation either. NES, SNES, Genesis, and Saturn all had their own versions.
I have both things. Ps1 and 2
Still have 4 multitaps
Time Splitters on multi tap...good times
Man saving on the ps1 memory card was always scary back in the days especially if you live in a town where power goes out randomly from time to time. You basically brick your card and lose everything when that happens.
I still get goosebumps every time i hear that sound, it is genius, Gameboy got close, but nobody can beat the PS1 boot up sound.
P.S. One day i lost my mind when i saw the Glove controller, begged my parents to buy it and it was one of the coolest and most useless things ever at the same time. Took some time to get used to it, but had tons of fun playing with it.
makes my ears perk up everytime I hear it, so many good memories :) I have an original console but tend to emulate these days without a good old CRT TV in my house.
Well i did enjoy giving myself a "stranger" while wearing the power glove, but playing games with it was a nightmare
ur wrong how about the gamecube lol
Gameboy is referenced more so I would say point for them...
Absolutely right. I even have it as my ringtone as of now
Me needing my own memory card for my saved cause my brothers sports games would take up 14/15 blocks.
Now imagine having 2 younger brothers and 1 memory card between you. They'd be times we would play san andreas without saving it just to fuck around with cheats and do stupid things. Once i left school though i made sure to buy us all our own memory cards, which would later be seperate consoles.
How many MB was ps1 memory?
@@oneshotkid9889 15 KILO bytes, no megabytes with the PS1 memory card
@@denzelgist6922 Oh dear god!! Now we have like 1GB, and still not enough.
Crystal Walker exactly! And my brothers jacked all the space since I was the youngest! 😂
getting a ps1 soon, since I was unfortunate enough to not be old enough to grow up in that era. I'm gonna keep it til i die. cant wait to play resident evil 1-3, crash team racing, metal gear solid, mega man, spyro and others.
I loved this. I still have my original PS one and picked up a complete second one with 2 controllers for $35. I need to hunt downmore memory cards and games. When i was a kid that thing was the most valuable thing i owned and i still cherish it today.
But i am just surprised he didn't mention the demo discs!! Like come on man! those things were lit! Or games so big that they needed several discs and you have to swap them out.
No mention of the GameShark.
How disappointing. Lol.
Almost every console had a GameShark
@@timothylewis2527 PS1 is more well known.
Or Action Replay. Who actually released a code to remove Miss Croft’s clothing.
Not forgetting the Xplorer/Xploder.
....Action Replay was brilliant for playing Resident Evil 3
Only a few ps1 models had a gameshark
I remember when I was a kid, I used to play Legend of Legaia on my ps1. Can't forget about it. It's still loading today.
Talks about the great PS1 games. Doesn't mention Metal Gear Solid. SMH
frbru88 right!
Good point.
exactly
I was about to say that.
Because It sucked
PS1 has the greatest opening screen sound
For me, it's tied with the PS2 startup sound. Both are fantastic pieces of nostalgia.
Ps2 wins
Richard Borts bwwwwwwaaaaaaaaa.
vwoom
PS1 is the goat for opening sequence. It sounds like the heaven of gaming is opening its doors for you, powerfully awesome and there's 2 parts.
The boot up sound, that's pure nostalgia goodness. It was really an amazing time to grow up in terms of the evolution of gaming, seeing the Resident Evil graphics, I thought they can't possibly get better than this!
The nostalgia is huge! I love the ps1 so so much!
Ps1 Start screen hit me back like a truck. So nostalgia.
so i had the ps2 before i got this so i was used to the dark ominous start up but little old me thought it was a good idea to crank up the volume when i got the ps1..... i think it caused a earthquake
When my brother and I got our PlayStation, getting mod chips installed was a really big thing and there were a few game shops that did it in my area. I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned in this video, cause I feel like EVERYONE I knew that had a PS1 at the time had theirs modded.
I still play on my ps1 whenever my wifi goes out.
me too but i m playing ps2
I got the PS2 Slim system
I play my ps1 even when I still have wifi. If my wifi goes out, its because we lost power, wo I'm not able to play any video game.

What game(s) do you play on it?
How the duel shock controller changed all controllers forever... Hail Ape Escape.
@unsteddie music they had a rubbish dpad and an ugly fat baterry hanging out and uses batteries
HAIL APE ESCAPE!!!
I never had a PS myself, but there was one at my grandad’s flat and I loved it... that launch screen was just magic!
Playing MTV music generator with my tv off and just headphones in my boombox so I could make music past bedtime LoL
How about having too much memory card that you can't find your save file for the game your playing cause you can't find the right memory card.
Thats why you properly labeled every single one. Something simple like just putting a genre on it.
Too much memory card
I used to stick masking tapes to them and write the name of the games
Dude, I was really, really poor, to the point I still could only afford for a PS1 when the PS3 came out.
I never had money for more than one memory card.
Dayumn... you's was rich boi 😁!!!
"You must format the memory card"
Plug it out and then plug it back in :D
The blasphemy! Tell me you didn't just say Tengku? It's TenCHU!
And they call this a gaming channel.
HA, I was about post "things I remember...how to pronounce tenchu"
Haha Jesus I even had the code book that told me how to get Sexy Ayane and change all the dialogue to Japanese. That game was righteous.
“Looksu like-uh you choose a wrong party to crass!”
when you lost you 1KB memory card and you play the same mission everyday on ridge racer 4
It's astonishing how many saves could be saved onto such a tiny amount of space
Never had one.
I’m glad my parents bought me and my siblings every system. I’m happy to have been able to experience these games. My favorite will still forever be the GameCube. Having 4 siblings, couch co-op was the best.
You gave a shout out to Legacy of Kain, my favorite PS1 game
Dude it's not Tenku, its Tenchu. What are you doing?
I wish I still had that cd case :'( Even as a child, after 5 years of finding it again, it was so nostalgic... And that was probably 15 years ago :'(
Number 10🙏🏾
Gives me more reasons than just 1
1990s : tiny TVs, minimal processing power, golden age of the splitscreen
2010s : huge flatscreen TVs, much more processing power, splitscreen going the way of the dodo
8:25 oh my gosh, I miss that game so much that I forgotten the name, I miss the "you earn weapon" voice, and then I'll grin as I get my fav weapon, a rapid fire mini gun

FYI Nobody that I knew ever called it "the thing", it was called the multitap by my friends and I and everyone else i knew.
My friends and I called it "the controller thingy"....but we were high all the time so our vocabulary was sometimes a bit limited.
I called it the boomerang multi-tap
I remember the FF7 manual having an ad on the back about using a memory card, and I never quite understood what mad lad would even attempt that game without one.
I actually tried to beat it without saving but I always managed to die against the demon wall or the robot in the underwater reactor.

Omg I loved the startup sounds mannnn an I still have my cd case
I still remember the intro screen and sound for the PSOne. Still gives me the chills a little bit but also gives me a nostalgic feeling because this is was the console that I grew up with back in my youth going all the way back to Christmas 1998. The first games I had were Tekken 3 and Crash 2 but yeah the lineup was amazing. A lot of developers really trying hard to put their games in a console created by a company that had something to prove.
What I remember most about ps1 was “Disc Swapping”. Anyone experience this???
Hell yeah.
It was great on how they did that, also annoying, if you don't have the other disk
Done this with spyro and the game stayed on just the audio went off and couldn't go into any other levels just the place I was already In but stayed on for as long as I wanted was so weird
They had a perfect design.
A big button for power and a button for the tray.
Now you need a youtube tutorial to find the dam things.
huh? why though lol
Bro what? It’s literally the same the buttons are just more cool now lol or just turn on your controller turns the whole PlayStation on
Still the same for PS4 only the buttons are sleeker.
