I was just saying that when watching it. Especially the accessory that you can put in with the little screen. The idea was very ahead of it's time.

Melissa Capaccio I was thinking that in regards to it’s built in online abilities since that wasn’t really used until the seventh generation consoles were released (I’d argue that it was perfected by the PS3 since it could do more than just play games online and had a web browser)

I actually had to curse someone out behind this yesterday. Say what you want about Sega. But if they couldve held out today no telling what original IP or consoles they would have created. It be a different landscape now

It was, but not far enough to keep it appealing when the PS2 was released. In less than a year, PS2 had an ethernet port instead of a modem, DVD playback and superior hardware specs. And because people lost their trust to SEGA because of how they handled every system they released after the Mega Drive, they missed on the nearly 1 year advantage they had over the PS2 because everyone was waiting to see what Sony had to offer.

Mad Hatter Ya, I’ve heard of that plan, although it was originally originally going to be on Mac. As much as I love the Dreamcast, I’m glad it went to Xbox instead. Shooters just don’t play all that great on the dreamcast (without the mouse and keyboard) and it wouldn’t have been nearly the revolution for FPS controls on console that it ended up being. Plus I doubt the Halo franchise would have done as well

I'll never forget the day that I was hanging out with my friends during Christmas time '99 at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, CA, and some guy randomly approaches us and says, "Hey guys, are you interesting in purchasing the new Nintendo system?" I was a bit confused what he was referencing, but considering it was 3 of us and one of him, we followed him to his car in the parking lot, and in his trunk, he's got a sealed brand new in box Sega Dreamcast. I was the only one who had any money in my pocket that day, that was initially to buy my girlfriend at the time a Christmas gift, (lol), but this guy says, "I'll take $50 for it". Uhh.....sure, take my money! 6 months to a year later, my friends and I never left my house playing the powerhouse titles that the Dreamcast released, and I was no longer with my girlfriend at the time, haha. It's okay, we were young.

Yeah play it! If you know DX ports, it's worth comparing. There's much less falling through the floor, shadows all work properly where they should, the lighting is different and probably more suited, much fewer issues with decals and animations. If you haven't played DX, then well it's a pretty good game, and there's no outright wrong way to experience Sonic Adventure and you might as well play the original!
If your Dreamcast glitches out and resets on you, you probably just need to take it apart and clean the power supply connector, that's by far the most common fault, you'll easily find a tutorial. The RTC battery will also likely have failed, but the game should boot regardless.

Probably at the same exact place. Like the Master System had no chance of succeeding in the US because of the NES, the Dreamcast was doomed but this time on a global scale. Playstation at the time was dwarfing even Nintendo which if it wasn't for Game Boy it could might as well follow SEGA in the unemployment office. Especially after they pulled the plug on the Saturn, people were willing to wait to see what Sony had to offer before making the transition to the next generation. Not only that, but even with a DVD player it would probably be struggling to keep up with PS2, let alone the more powerful GC and Xbox.

Thanks! Glad I could help. I still remember paying $80 for my bundle. Came with Sonic Adventure, Shuffle, and a blue VMU too!

Virtual On is a personal fave everyone seems to have forgotten

Fur Fighters, Sonic Shuffle, Toy Commander were some of my favorites. I have a working Dreamcast with those games and others
