- With the spawn over and the weather warm it is time to shift my focus to some smallmouth. I venture over to my spot on the Raritan River hoping to catch smallmouth. The baby whopper plopper finally gets wet and its hot, but it is not smallmouth that it lands. Join me for some post spawn wade fishing in New Jersey!

That was cool seeing you fish the Raritan River. Nice you found a compatible location. 💥🎣⭐️
Its a fun spot. That river has all sorts of fish. I have seen a very large pike swim through.
BTW, my buddy Ant happened to randomly discover your pike spot and caught three by the camp and call me up to tell me I need to try it.
Wow Whopper Popper catching trout, first heard. Great catches!!
Hmm, maybe they should make a micro-ultra light whopper plopper just for trout with tiny treble hooks.
Awesome day on the river lovely Trout landed too.Tight, thumbs up and greetings from Down under,, Tony.
Thanks 👍
Great video Doug some nice catches
Thanks, Rod!
Hello my friend, that was another nice video. I think your fishing equipment is really great. You made great catches again. I wish you a nice week. LG Alex :)
Danke, Alex!
Lovely vídeo Doug one more time! Congratz mate! 🎣🐟👍💯
Thank you!!
Fun times on the river. Nice job on your catches. Cool you caught a couple rainbows too. Speaking of strange things caught, yesterday, I literally caught a fist sized rock rock. My hook snagged some algae on the rock and I reeled it in. At first, I thought I landed a monster trout. LOL. Fun times. Have a great day.
Better than a boot, I guess! 😜
Nice Rainbow Dug.
Thanks, Mike.
Smallmouth and trout with underwater shots… what’s goin on here 😜. Whopper Ploppers. This channel is getting out of hand 😆. Great vid, Dug!
I have been taking notes!!
River wading! Hell yeah! Love the small jaws
They are the best.
Dude, that was a great video. Keep up the good work. I need to do more creek fishing. Specially during the white bass run.
Standing in the water is a great way to keep cool. I still have not purchased waders, so I wait until late May and then its time to just go in. Its a pain to film though.
Dug, that is so cool I need to try this on the trout here in Utah. Nice going!
Good luck! I would love to see it happen a second time.
Salut , le whopper plopper fonctionne très bien en France aussi sur les bass , brochets ,aspe , chevesne et j'en passe ...bravo ça change ce contenu 👍
Merci, Bob!
Awesome video Dug nice catches whopper Popper was Awesome catching trout learn something as well....FishOn!!!!
I used to think trout were boring but they sure can be fun.
I’ve never fished under a bridge. I’m always afraid there will be bees, snakes and other undesirable stuff under there lol. I like how you tell the bait and put a little pic on the side to show it. I like seeing the underwater view of the fish. Fun day of catches. That’s a lot of beeping at the end 😂
There may be trolls.
@@DpuckFishingandOutdoors Nah those are only on RUclips 😆
Fishin by a bridge is always a good idea haha.. great job on this one Doug!!
That is where the monsters live.
Great job mixing it up and hopping in the river! Sweet mix of smallies and trout oh and the pumpkinseed! Crazy to land 3 trout on those bass lures. The whopper plopper one is wild!
The credit goes to you, J. After watching you wade rivers with the WP it was totally my intention of trying to recreate your videos.
@@DpuckFishingandOutdoors thanks Dug! I appreciate that big time. The WP in some tight areas and rivers is too much fun not to try. 🙌👊
Nice multispecies action. Great job !
Thanks, dude! Getting more than 1 species was totally unexpected!
I was surprised at the water clarity even with the silty bottom.....But when you can complete a slam the time on the water was well worth the effort Dug!!
Its actually almost all solid rock, very jagged, almost quarried. That makes for a ton of snags. I donate over $25 in terminal tackle each time.
great video my friend
Thank you 👍
Awesome outing Doug! A multi species kind of day!! What a pretty cool looking creek. That spot looks like fish would love making a run through there!! I'm surprised you caught them trout on those lures. That's the first to see for me. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!!🎣💯👍🏼
I still don't see how it got that hook in his tiny mouth. This has been the year of the trout for me.
@@DpuckFishingandOutdoors I know right small mouth still took that hook! It's Allright though he got got that Doug set in his mouth!!🤣😂🏆🏆🏆🏆
NICE!! Loved the rainbows!! Nice editing and music, too!!
Thanks so much!!
Nice video! Great action! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great sharing, have a nice time
Thanks for visiting
Nice catches, Dug. Cool to see a rainbow among those smallies.
It sure was. I guess they were stocked trout that migrated and have held out.
Good morning. It's fun to watch your fishing. Have a nice day.
Thanks, you too!
Nice to see the trout!
Total shocker. This has been the season of the trout, for me.
Such a good time out ❤❤❤
Thanks! It sure was. The water was nice.
So cool getting the rainbow on the whopper plopper! What an awesome underwater shot of that 2nd rainbow 💪🏻 Wasn’t expecting to see the 3 trout. Good to see ya get on some smallies Dug! Dude…..I was freaking cracking up with the bonus footage 😆 that was a lot of bleeping going on 😉👊
You should hear me driving! Those trout were just bunched up under that bridge. That was a blast.
Rainbow trout are good, too! I'll pull it off so much!😉
I was lucky.
Great days on the river. Trout on a whopper! Cool! 3 species.
Speed trap.
The Hat trick!
Wasn't expecting that species, topwater. Very nice job, beautiful vid. Gettn' it done.
He must have been hungry!
Amazing fishing like always Dug, beautiful bass and beautiful trout on a great river. Keep them coming and God bless you and your family and your mother 🙏💯🙏
Thanks, you too!
Nice trout!
Thanks!
Man, Nice Trout and bass, heck even nice bream!! Looked like a great day to be out wading!! Great Video Doug!! I love the underwater release too!! I've only caught trout on the usual trout stuff, I did catch one on a jerk bait one time though!!
It sure was fun. I had expected my trout catching to be done until next spring. Thanks for watchin!
How did I miss this!
Too busy cooking up great meals in the dutch oven?
Not a bad day D! The trout is a nice catch any day. And on a whopper plopper to boot. I hate those things lol but they work. I bought my first couple this year to try. The Keitechs are good baits. Caught many fish on those. Dude that shit at the end of the video was absolutely comical lol. I couldn't stop laughing. In typical Dpuck fashion lol. Tight lines buddy!
Its not a video without a tantrum. I am not obsessed with the whopper plopper like some, but the little baby sized has been pretty awesome in creeks and rivers.
Nice a trout on a whopper Plopper! I think that’s the first I’ve seen that. I once caught a giant grass carp on a spinner bait, that was a complete shock to me.
Did it bite the hook?
@@DpuckFishingandOutdoors yeah, happened when I lived in Missouri.
Stellar video Doug, I agree 100% with the tungsten head on the Swimjig. If Tungsten was more affordable or I knew I wasn’t going to snag up I would absolutely throw it. I like to used tungsten bullet weights on my T Rigs but really don’t throw it in many other forms. Nice fishing though brother that trout catch was WILD
Tungsten flipping weights are fantastic. I use them on Tokyo rigs and will use them on dropshot when I am doing my week log fish challenges. I am glad I am not the only one that thinks having them as a jig head while I am swimming a paddle tail through the water seems odd. Maybe the density allowing for a smaller size changes the water resistance and allows for a deeper run? Ironically, these tungsten hooks are cheaper than the Megabass heads mead of lead.
Well done, on those small mouth and trout, brother. I used to go fishing, in NJ for striped bass and bluefish... My deepest condolences on your Mom and my she Rest in Peace. Keep on fishing! 🎣🐟
Thank you bud. I used to do a lot of fishing for blues as a kid. They are a lot of fun.
Love those river smallmouth! They’re just built different! 👊🏻
They sure are. I don't care how small they are, they sure do feel big.
Dug! A gun outing in memory of your mom. So sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing your day on the water. Nothing wrong with the outing at all. No need to apologize for "only 4".
Sorry about your Rangers. Was hoping they'd get past Florida. Go, Oil!
Ah, so you were hoping to play the Rangers? 😜
Thanks for watching, Dan. My mother went fishing once in her life, caught a fish and declared she had accomplished her mission.
Nice action. Nice to see you add a rainbow in there. Those snags at the end. I was feeling your pain
I wish I could add a lot more rainbows. Thanks for watching!
Those fish were stacked under that bridge pretty thick. Pretty cool getting that trout on the plopper. I didn’t know they would hit bass lures like that. Awesome video brother!
I can't believe he got that hook in his mouth! The first trout and the next two were a few miles apart. Nothing makes sense to me.
This is my kind of fishing. Wading, rivers, smallies, spillways. The trout on a whopper plopper really threw me though. I've never seen that before.
Well you did inspire me to find that place, last year. I knew I had to find a spillway.
Great video man! Love catching some trout and don’t get to do it often!
I mostly only catch them in April right after they were stocked. Catching a bunch that late in the spring was wild to me. I have been working on getting a little better at fishing current and fishing for other species. Thanks for checking it out.
NJ, been there before lol NYC too. Crazy place lol
Yes sir.
The trout were hitting everything D! Tungsten is denser and heavier… basically smaller but heavier.
I caught more trout this year and had more unexpected trout hit a bait in front of me, than ever before.
I get that tungsten is denser and smaller, but as a swim bait head, when a 3/16 is still 3/16 but smaller, what is the advantage? Its not sinking faster or slower, its going to be suspended in the water collum as I swim it back. The sensitivity is not important. Maybe the smaller surface area allows it to stay down deeper?
The irony is that the tungsten Vike heads are cheaper than the Megabass led Okashira heads.
Awesome video again Dug, I commented from my other email by mistake ... I deleted comment the but left the like... you got an extra like, lol. Keep up the great fishing.
Well, double thanks!!
I have a few days in a row like your day one. Way to keep at it!
Thanks!
Great video and it’s nice that you can walk in the river without your life on the line. Nice trout that was sweet.
Hah well no gators, but some of the turtles can be scary. 😜
Setting your tripod up on the shore nearby and walking your catch up to it is a great idea.
It's also a little risky. 😜
I've caught many different species on a whopper plopper. That lure is amazing!
Im impressed. I liked it, then gave up on it and now its back.
A trout on a whopper plopper 😳 unreal dude. Smallies are my favorite fish to catch always. RIP Momma Dpuck 🙏🏼
They are mine too!!
Sometimes you gotta be the fish to catch the fish....way to get out there and go ALL in
The water was beautiful. Great way to stay cool.
Never know what you'll catch in a river. Not your typical trout baits. I've never heard of a trout caught on a whopper plopper. That looked like a nice river to fish. I think the tungsten is for environmentally conscious people that don't want to leave lead in the water. 👍
That is an excellent point about the lead. I did not think of that.
lets go
Gone!

I caught a giant catfish this week.
