    Personally I love it when there's a complex technic system seamlessly integrated into a build. I find engineering fascinating and really enjoy seeing the seemingly random blob of technic pieces slowly reveal it's true purpose during the build. I also just don't like how Technic sets look so I'm always happy with how well LEGO hide the mechanisms in these kinds of sets.

    • @TiagoCatarino
      @TiagoCatarino  3 года назад +36

      It depends on the set! For the typewriter I didn't actually mind it as I was mentally prepared for a heavy Technical mechanism inside. For this one not so much, and I've seen previous Expert Cars doing steering without this heavy amount of Technic.

      @@lordbogus6709 It looks better for a Lego model as it less blocky, but compared to the real thing it's less accurate

    • @lordbogus6709
      @lordbogus6709 3 года назад +1

      @@markbouma2099 It'l never be fully accurate. They could have done a few things better, such as the front screen a bot more round and the top white bit of the roof a bit lower, the real thing has the roof going in a curve immediatly when the white begins, and its kinda steep. Hard to explain but maybe you know what i mean if you see pictures. Also there sould have been indicators.
      In the end it is just lego but its getting close. Maybe in a few years a new release? maybe then they will do the T1 again with new techniques

  • @joeldeakin2003

    This genuinely seems like the perfect build for me.
    It's my dream car in the colour I would have it in. The details inside the car and easy accessibility to see them is incredible. The functioning sliding doors and turnable wheels are so cool. The different build styles with original Lego and technic combined in one is something I personally really enjoy. The size seems just right to fit on my shelf, not too small to the point where there's no detail and not too big to the point where it looks too out of place.
    I definitely think I'm going to buy this when I get the chance.

    Personally, I'm a fan of technique builds. I've only recently gotten back into Lego, since I now have space to display finished sets. While working on the NES, I loved the moments when mechanical parts just clicked together, like getting the pop up tray to work, or the tv screen to spin. Even little things like getting knobs to make clicking noises are nice.
    Currently, I need space to display more sets, along with the budget to justify it, but this looks like something I'd enjoy building.

  • @OliverCGoetz
    @OliverCGoetz 3 года назад +14

    Quite frankly: if it wasn’t printed on the box I would not really have recognized this as VW Campervan (or "Bully" as it's called here in Germany). I think the designers dropped the ball on this one. They didn't manage to capture the most pronounced design features and this looks to me more like a generic van than anything else.
    Also, there seem to be some issues with stability (I saw another review today where the reviewer struggled to open the rear hatch without pieces falling off). Add the issues with the stickers whose color don't match the bricks, and this doesn't seem to be up to the usual standard of the Creator Expert cars.
    The color choice looks kind of plain to me, so I think this really needs those extra stickers to pop. The T1 was the more iconic version of the real car, and so was the T1 LEGO model.

      But the whole shaping of the front and especially the roof looks off to me. Prefer the red one, but the point is it is very easy to create detail in such large scale. The real skill is to make a model minifig scale that is instantly recognisable as a VW camper. Personally, I used the 31079 'generic' yellow camper and modded the frontage to give it the iconic VW look. I also shrank it from 8 studs to 6 wide, which is the optimum vehicle size for minifigs (episode 1 on my channel).

    I've just built this T2 model, There are some really clever design modules in it. Can I pass on a useful tip? Take every care with getting the cab right, at various stages it is quite flimsy and frustrating to re-build. This is not a model to move around too much.

    The price is ok, but from the design I like the T1 a little bit more, but it is a nice set! Moreover I find it is to colorful in the model so I don't know why it is not grey or black!

    This is going to be one of my birthday gifts!
    I would leave the optional sticker sheet unused for the sake of resale value!
    And as usual, it can be easily be adapted to Right-Hand Drive!

      I'm thinking of it too because I had the t1 and it has been gone for long and also this is a worthy upgrade if you had the t1 or not

    I think the steering with the spare wheel is that, when facing the model from the front, when you turn the wheel to the right, it steers to the right, and vice versa. So I guess it is technically correct.

    It looks great and has a lot of features I would like to have on lego set just like on the new Land Rover Defender.

    I bought this set but I heard is retiring soon, idk if I should keep it on its sealed box or just open it and enjoy it.

    Even better than the T1. I have the same problem with Lego Technic, but in this case I am curious how it works and supports the functions.
    Will buy the set.

    To my opinion the old design looks less square and has a more beautiful red colour than this light blue. I also miss the decorative black stripe.

    those new slope pieces might actually be useful as shoes for a large brick built person 4:13

    People in the comments saying the first gen was more accurate are insane. This one is based on a baywindow Westfalia T2 and it looks way more accurate to its real life counterpart than the original splitty Lego model.

    I don't mind a few stickers, but at least the color should match. Apart from them stickers the Van looks really great. I like that the wheels can turn, but I really like lego technics.

    I honestly still don't understand why LEGO keep making the Stickers have background.
    It's already meant to go on a colored piece - why not make the Sticker be transparent...?

    I own the original set and the tent has a really basic technic setup, for it always fell apart and was annoying to fix. I think the more advanced one will hold up better

    The stickers on the blue parts aren't color matched very well. Like at all

    What I’ve noticed in the last few sets I built. Some of the hidden details are of many mixed colors. On purpose? Or is this just a lego thing? Either way I enjoy the brain challenge of some of these extreme builds. Thanks for the video for the lego vw “sad bus”. 😜

    This will look great next to the T1 Camper and the VW Bug on my shelf.
