How to Align a Finderscope for New Astronomers

  • Aligning your finderscope is pretty easy and you can do this in under 5 minutes depending on how accurate you want it. Before you can align it, you have to make sure that you meet the following conditions:
    1. Your finderscope has adjustable knobs. Some telescopes are fixed and therefore do not need to be adjusted.
    2. If your finderscope is removable, tighten down the mounting screws to ensure it is solidly in place.
    3. You are in clear sight of an object that is at least half a mile away, or about 800 meters.
    4. You have eyepieces for your telescope handy.
Watch it now and let me know if you have any other advice to improve this process.
Clear skies and thanks for watching.
