I Found a Beautiful Campsite Deep In The Woods

This week I headed up to the Foothills State Forest West of Pine River. I found a spot on the cell phone that looked like it was going to work awesome. I pined the location on Google Maps but wouldn't bring me to it. There was no record of the trails existing. Not even the OnX App had them listed. I thought they looked passable from satellite imagery, so I took my chances. When I arrived, I found the main trails to be in fair condition. However, the trail leading back to the dispersed campsite was completely overgrown. I decided to check on a boat landing a mile or so away. All the trials in the area looked like they deadened at the landing. When I got there, I was so happy I didn't push the camper to my original spot. This place was awesome! I had a great time. The leaves are at about 50 percent right now. The next two weeks have to potential to be breathtaking. Thanks for coming along on this week's adventure.

My son and I were shot at by the fire camping once. It’s a great way to ruin a nice quiet evening. After we got the fire out and dug through everything we realized the rounds were 9mm and under a layer of dirt and ash. Someone planned for the fire to burn a while before they would go off so they hid them really well. I really like how you pick up the trash at the campsites. I’ve taught my kids to do the same. We always have extra garbage bags.

That is awful . I don't understand what goes through people's minds. It's a crazy world we live in. Hope no one got hurt.

I've heard of spikes, seen nails and broken glass strategically placed upon a campsite. But ammo, that's a whole new level of messed up.
@@KennyOfAllTrades thanks, luckily the rounds were in enough dirt and ash to only explode and scare the crap out of us. After the second one went off and we figured it out, we doused it with water and let everything cool down for a while. We always are careful now. Since we camp where there’s a lot of large rocks, I typically make a base layer for the fire to sit on, just in case someone decides to leave ammo in the fire pit again. 🙄
That Bass was something else Kenny, I think it had a escape plan before you even hooked him. That was a great looking bass though.
Your methodology for finding the best places to camp sure works for you. That was really a fantastic site. I enjoyed watching you traveling down the road to get to it.
So glad you have a new drone! You do such a fine job to create such good looking scenes with it.
As far as the occasional troll that comments "is it really worth it" obviously they have never camped, or they would know it really is. Maybe they're idea of fun is staying in a crowded hotel in Vegas: to each their own but I prefer natural beauty. Looks like you're in for great colors there. We haven't had a decent rain in two months, so our colors are going to be pretty pallor in comparison.

Kudos to you for cleaning up after those that thought they were too important to clean up after themselves. Last week when I was on vacation and visited Copper Harbor and High Rock Bay I came across a plastic inner fender just sitting on the side of the trail. I stopped and picked it up because I want the trail to be open for others to enjoy too.

I love dark nights by the fire. It is 10/12. We are RVing every weekend in Oct and 1st weekend of Nov. in the Smoky Mountains N.P.
I can feel Mother Earth strengthen. Tis almost Samhain (Gaelic pronounced SAH-win), it celebrates 10/31 to 11/1. The incoming dark half of the year is celebrated. The physical world and spiritual world breakdown during this time. Allowing more interaction between the 2 dimensional planes.

I use crescent biscuit dough. Roll it out to be a little thinner, add the pie filling of choice. Fold to a triangle and use fork around the edges to seal. Egg wash it all. Repeat for a second one. Spray the iron and put both in the iron, folded side touching. Bake until golden brown on both sides. Let cool some. Enjoy!

Pudgie pie desserts! Those were our favorite at scout camps!
You should be throwing some weedless topwater baits and frog baits in those lily pads. You’d catch some big bass in there. Maybe a musky or pike.
The last time I made those was with my camping buddy Keith. He has since passed away. Man this makes me remember him. Oh man, Keith was a great guy. He was my camping, fishing, hunting buddy. Miss that guy. It's been about a year and a half.

We've camped that spot many times. A favorite for 4 wheeling. I've been out there alone overnight, and man is it quiet and dark at night.
It was one of the darkest nights I can remember. It was a full moon that night, and dead silent. You could hear a pin drop.

We made those pies the same way when I was a kid. Good memories.
I wanted to do something fun for this video. I remember making them ad a kid too. I was glad to see Walmart still sold those pie irons. I'm happy it brought back a memory for you.

Nice camp!! You need powdered sugar to sprinkle over your mountain pie. Good memories with making apple mountain pies at camp at night and 2 bears coming into camp!! Had to scare them off with some loud bangs!!
Darn bears! Right now they are out looking for food big time. They are trying to put on as much weight as possible for the winter hibernation. I've had a few at the house the last couple weeks. I'm gonna try your powdered sugar tip. Sounds awesome.

Thanks! I hope next weekend even brings us more colors. I'm going to bring the camper to work on Friday. My plan is to start filming right away. Hopefully I can get enough footage on Friday and Saturday. Then I can edit all day Sunday. I'd hate to miss out this time of year. Fall is such a short window in Minnesota. It's going to be negative 40 in the blink of an eye.

Just because you're sleeping in a metal camper does NOT mean you aren't camping. You're just more protected from possible criminals and such. The rest is all the same 😊. Don't even mention the trolls or give them space in your head. That's exactly what they are trying to do. Blessings! We always sprinkled powdered sugar on our mountain pies😋. Also try making pizza ones😋❤️
I'm going to try the pizza next time. Those trolls know how to get under my skin. I had to stop reading comments by Thursday night because I was carrying the negative around in my head all weekend. I am used to dealing with drunks talking stuff to my face. I can deal with that. But small-minded bullies hiding behind their screens is something different. I must have had a dozen comments the last week telling me my videos were a waste of time, worst camping on RUclips. Why would someone waste their effort to even type that out....why not turn off the video and find something they like. I love interacting with all my regular viewers. We are out there together. But I've thought about turning off comments. I've had weekends that I don't even want to hit record knowing all the crap talk I'll get for my effort. Sorry.....I had to vent a little.

I feel like I am there, didn't like the beetles though. LOL. Thank God for the vacuum. Love hearing that coffee pot going in the morning. Reminds me of my sisters house. 17 acres of peaceful surroundings. Sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee. Going upstate NY in a few weeks. Looking forward to the changing leaves. It was an unexpected surprise for me. I'm going to have to check out that area more. I normally stick around Spider Lake and Bull Moose trail. It was fun to explore a little more of the forest.

Super easy. I bought the irons at Walmart. They also have doubles. They are in the camping section. I hope the kids love them. It was a good memory from my childhood.

Hey, Kenny, another great video as usual! That is certainly a great spot, so lovely with all the fall colors beginning to show. We got our new-to-us AF1140, but it's in for some modifications, should have it back by the end of the month and we're so looking forward to getting it loaded and doing our first outing! I see this time it was Lady Bugs, and yes, they can be problematic for sure. I guess it'll take the snow to enjoy bug-free camping. You capture such good drone footage, glad you were able to get another one and I could almost smell that chicken cooking! One thing is certain, you always leave your camp site in better condition when you leave. Hope to see ya next week, have a great week!

It was delicious. I picked up the pie irons at Walmart. They sell single and doubles. That way, you can make an apple and cherry pie at the same time. Brilliant!!
