Unfortunately in the time most mental hospital movies are based around mental wards often did have poor facilities, cruel methods of treatment and often staff who are fine using these methods though for a majority of them it's more misguided attempt to help there were probably some staff that found sick enjoyment in the suffering of others. Thats usually the aspect they go for for horror movies because it's an easy thing to fall back on. But, you're right, it is definitely refreshing to see some variation.

Most people usually can tell the difference between fiction and reality, most people become curious about the actual condition and do research. No one with any intelligence actually believes anyone with a mental illness is actually evil. Especially in a horror movie, it's just a way to create interesting stories in my opinion.
Of course at the end they have to ruin everything with the extremely cliche and expected "oh my god she jumped out of the mirror, and isn't actually cured!". Movie would've been 100x better without that unnecessary jumpscare twist.

Wasn't a bad film, but the twist has been done so many times before. Honestly Identity did a much better job of it having it take place entirely in the guys head with the all clues scattered around the set design.

It's done as they noticed that epileptics often feels calm, have an elevated mood after a seizure. So they administer it to people with long term, treatment resistant major depression. The crap they show in movies is very far from the truth, it's worst side effect is persistent confusion to some degree (some have it bad, some it's mild or not at all, and/or loss of memory. I've had quite a few sessions of ECT to try to cure depression that medication, meditation, CBT etc wont help. Sadly, neither does ECT.

The Story Recapped watermark placement is horrible. How do you expect people to use subtitles on that? It's too much distracting, my subtitles blend with the watermark.
