I'm a naturopath (BHSc) and these are the types of things we study and specialise in. Many things that he's saying are true, but while it may seem very impressive to people who haven't studied these topics and treated clients, what he's saying is too simplistic. It's very important to correct deficiencies, but nutritional supplements are not magic bullets. He's applying the pharmaceutical model to nutrients. It's not how it works. Genetic testing, especially with new companies that are fairly unregulated and use quite new technology, have a lot of false positives and some false negatives. Also 2 people can have the same type and level of MTHFR mutation and one has related health issues and the other never does. We are not simple machines where we can identify a mutation, deficiency, break in methylation process etc, add nutritional supplements and then our health is optimal. He mentioned that folic acid is synthetic, well methyl folate can be too, and supplement companies are not regulated enough. It can get dangerous when, for example, pregnant women or people trying to conceive could watch this podcast and gather that methyl folate is always better than folic acid, so they switch. Then we see an increase in neural tube defects, because there is no guarantee that the methyl folate in that product is what it's implying it is, so in that way, folic acid can be a lot more reliable because it's been used for so long and isn't a newer product. Also you cannot detach body from mind, so you can add all the building blocks you like, but if someone has built neural pathways around their life experiences and trauma, and/or has damaged receptors, this magic bullet theory will not work for many people with depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, ASD, personality disorders etc. But it is a great place to start, to remove burdens (alcohol, processed foods, stressors etc) and provide your body with the building blocks it needs, but I wouldn't want people to see this, go and buy 5HTP, SAMe, methyl folate etc online to treat their mental health or medical conditions, because that's absolutely what people do. These things are not magic bullets and they can cause harm. Many supplements interact with medications.

Good points. I have relentless Fibromyalgia pain for 12 years. Im trying so hard to address my issues. Im also a weightloss surgery patient. Recently it seems I got B12 anemic because other things looked normal but i couldnt stay awake the whole day. I got sublingual B12 and started taking Folic acid (i read how they can work together to process proteins correctly and may not be getting the process right gastricly)). I have wondered for a long time if I the MTHFR mutation and am not detoxing right or deficient in or not uptaking something properly. I am wondering if I SHOULD get the methyl folate. Im not pregnant or trying to be.

    • @maisiea-rr1cb
      @maisiea-rr1cb Год назад

No one can diagnose or create a management plan over a RUclips comment. If they do, run! When it comes to mental health issues such as trauma, depression, it takes so many sessions with a therapist to get to the bottom of the root cause of it, there’s no one answer for everyone. Some patients WILL need SSRIs because they would be so low that an immediate intervention is needed. Autoimmune: that’s a massive topic, what exactly? It can vary between mild eczema to life threatening Crohn’s disease.

I practice so many of these things. I literally felt myself age backwards when I added several more. I am almost 60, no one would ever guess. I stopped telling people my age because it starts an entire conversation,I'm frankly tired of having. However, l eat very little processed food, sleep as much as I need, exercise outside and I relax. Nothing is ever as bad as our minds think. It is also important to love yourself and be grateful for all the good things you have right now. Really, really try to learn something new. I learned a third language in the last year.
If you are watching this, you have so many things to be grateful for; electricity, access, comprehension and you have another day to change your life. Live well❤

I look 20 years younger that I looked 10 years ago. I actually reversed aging. I'm not sure what part of my routines is the major one that reversed aging. I am doing all the things stated here plus swimming in the ocean and yoga. The tips on avoiding jet lag are great. I do walk every hour, because I just don't know how comfortable I will be squatting. Working on the mind set and beliefs is huge. Working on behavior that is inherited is also huge. Thanks for this video. It's amazing.

    1. Walked bare foot to expose the earth to contact with nature
    2. Exposed to the first sunlight 45 minutes every day
    3. Take deep breath 30 times to increase oxygen in the body as oxygen is equal energy
    4. Take cold water 3-6 minutes after workout every day to get deep sleep, anger control and muscle repair quickly

      Thanks @MrHak. Few additional points:
      -Don't be anemic.
-living close to equator is better than living close to poles. Closer to pole will decrease your life span and health.
-Don't eat what your great grandma cannot recognize.
-Energy is nothing but amount of oxygen is blood. More oxygen in blood = more energy.
-Do not run behind comfort. Comfort accelerates aging in every form.
-Eat more fat & protein, and less carb. Because carb takes away more energy from body to digest it.
-presence of oxygen is absence of disease.
-sitting is new smoking. So, keep body moving, do not sit at once for hours.
most 50+ age Americans are taking 5+ medications (synthetic & pharmaceuticals), if they start doing what here prescribed, health condition will dramatically improve.

I went to a naturopath, a doctor and psychologist for crippling anxiety. No one could help. Finally I requested a full panel of blood. I registered as mildly anemic in my blood tests but was reassured by the doctor that it didn't affect my "mental health". Because my red blood cells couldn't function properly to carry oxygen throughout my body, my nervous system and brain were not getting adaquate oxygen. My body couldn't cope with even a normal amount of stress. Taking iron literally changed my life within days. No more panic attacks and anxiety for 10+ years now. If you are surrounded by Narcissists, Psychopaths or Sociopaths, you are expecting a real and active threat. What your brain is experiencing is NOT imaginary, but real threat. Sometimes, health care professionals give you anxiety medicine regardless. They pathologize you and keep recommending pills when in reality it's not you causing the problem. It's important to make that distinction and know whether the trigger is internal or external.

I was friends with a girl recently for 9 months. She had very toxic behaviors. Wanted to talk to me, I agreed. She hid the fact she talked to other guys. Addicted to social media. Was an ex-codeine addict. She complained about depression, her poor mental health, was very angry, played the victim, complained about family problems. Wouldn’t sleep at night, go to bed at 8 AM.
My anxiety was off the rails, my blood pressure was 150/100. 180/110 at work when I had a massive panic attack.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🤖 Gary Brecka spent 20 years in life insurance, predicting when people would die to the nearest month.
01:40 🛡 Gary emphasizes the importance of gratitude and thanks to the audience for tuning into the podcast.
03:03 💼 Most people are walking around at only about 55-60% of their true state of normal, missing essential elements in their bodies.
06:17 🤔 Gary highlights that most common ailments are not genetically inherited diseases but rather a consequence of missing raw materials in the body.
09:04 🌱 Gary suggests that supplementing to correct deficiencies can lead to significant improvements in human health and unlock hidden potential.
12:31 📚 Gary's photographic memory fueled his passion for science and medicine from an early age.
20:05 🔮 Reflecting on his work in mortality science, Gary realizes the potential to impact lives positively and decides to shift to wellness and functional medicine.
22:13 🧠 Attention deficit disorder is often misdefined; it's actually an attention overload disorder caused by excessive thinking without proper thought dismantling. Medicating with amphetamines is a poor choice and can lead to burnout.
23:37 😢 Trauma can affect methylation, but using neuroplasticity-altering chemicals to address psychological trauma doesn't make sense. Conditions like depression and anxiety are linked to deficiencies in serotonin and gut issues.
29:41 💊 Understanding genetic deficiencies in methylation can help address anxiety and gut issues by supplementing with specific amino acids and methylated vitamins, restoring balance in neurotransmitters.
38:01 💡 The medical approach often focuses on symptoms rather than modifiable risk factors. Identifying and addressing modifiable risk factors like anemia and vitamin D3 deficiency can significantly impact overall health and disease prevention.
42:52 🩺 Vitamin D3 deficiency is prevalent in certain populations, especially African-American, Latino, and Middle Eastern individuals, due to reduced sun exposure. Depletion of vitamin D3 can lead to rheumatoid arthritis-like symptoms.
43:47 🏥 Medical errors and misdiagnoses are a significant concern, with misdiagnosis being the third leading cause of death. Understanding individual genetic mutations related to methylation can help target supplementing for deficiencies and prevent misdiagnoses.
48:14 🧬 Genetic testing for methylation-related gene mutations, such as MTHFR, can offer valuable insights into one's health and provide targeted supplementation to address deficiencies.
49:26 😴 Attention deficit disorder and procrastination can be related to deficiencies in methylated nutrients, which affect priority-setting and the ability to quiet the mind for better focus and productivity.
51:24 🧪 Synthetic chemical supplements, like folic acid, may not be efficiently processed by individuals with certain gene mutations, leading to postpartum depression and other health issues. Targeted supplementation with natural forms of nutrients can be more effective.
01:01:00 💊 Dana White's story is an example of how many individuals in his age category suffer from health issues and are on multiple medications. Targeted interventions and personalized health approaches can help people thrive and improve their quality of life.
01:03:32 🩺 Dana White's life-threatening health alert: Dana White received a life-threatening alert due to extremely high triglyceride levels, insulin resistance, and other health issues. The prognosis was poor, with a life expectancy of only 10.4 years.
01:06:36 🩺 Dana White's health transformation: Following a prescribed ketogenic diet and health protocol, Dana White lost weight, improved his blood work significantly, and restored his health. His life expectancy nearly tripled, and he felt amazing.
01:09:38 🚀 Superhuman protocol: The Superhuman protocol involves using magnetism, oxygen, and light therapy to enhance health. Contacting the Earth, doing breath work, and getting natural sunlight can achieve similar benefits without expensive equipment.
01:13:25 ❄ Cold water immersion: Cold water plunges activate cold shock proteins, improve circulation, and enhance mood. Exposing oneself to cold water regularly can aid in fat loss and overall well-being.
01:19:11 🌞 Avoid excessive comfort: Embracing discomfort, such as cold water exposure or physical challenges, can have positive effects on health and emotional well-being. Avoid excessive comfort and stressors to stimulate the body's natural defense mechanisms.
01:22:53 💡 Emotional state affects the future: Controlling emotional states can shape the future as emotions influence memory and conscience. Utilizing breath work and proper nutrition can help maintain elevated emotional states and better decision-making.
01:23:22 🌐 Shift your emotional state positively to influence your memory and future trajectory.
01:24:16 🍽 Preserve your sleeping window and avoid eating during normal sleeping hours when traveling to new time zones.
01:26:08 🛫 Fast on domestic flights and avoid carbohydrates at altitude to maintain energy and focus during travel.
01:29:25 🌿 Optimal health is found in the basics of nature and whole foods, not in complicated supplements or exotic ingredients.
01:30:37 🎯 Struggle with feeling guilty when indulging in simple pleasures due to an insatiable commitment to discipline and authenticity.

I did something called Nutrient Core which is a broad ranging report then based on those results it was recommended that I did the Methylation report as I have a variant on the MTHFR gene ( as it seems nearly half the population does) which means I don’t convert folate to methyl folate very well. I had advice from a nutritionist about diet & supplements. It was very enlightening. I try to turn my shower to cold for the last minute, I find singing helps & I also do a bit of grounding. If it’s too cold or wet outside I have a grounding mat for indoor use. I’ve massively changed my diet over the last 2 years & do time restricted eating. I’m mid 60’s & not on any meds but I do have quite a lot of joint pain which I use red light therapy to help & take turmeric. We must accept that we are indivduals and have individual bodies and only we ourselves know when we feel great and when we don't. We need to think of body&soul&life as interacting and interdependent. As someone who isn’t a researcher per se, but will search & search for answers to ailments, I have discovered some of the things he is talking about. I just haven’t been able to put the pieces together & listening to Gary speak is doing just that! I’m so happy to have found this channel. I love to learn & solve problems & help myself & those around me by sharing knowledge & info. Knowledge is power! It’s very empowering to know that we do have the ability to make changes necessary to improve health.

I've selectively shared this video with more than a dozen people. This interview has brought together my individual research on grounding (earthing), the need for light (vitamin D3) and breathing. I spent 30 years in healthcare and have come to the realization that the health system has lost its way. In reality, its not a health system at all but a sick system. Sickness underpins the business model of selling more drugs, therapies and services. Curing disease would threaten the very existence of the health system as we know it. It's not in the interest of the healthcare industry to cure the sick, with very few exceptions.
Thank you for a very informative and reassuring assessment of how to best go about looking after your own health!

I really loved this episode :-) Closing in on 60, and on no medication -( I always simply refuse too take any - unless there is an emergency in form of an accident, a serious injury or similar) - not becuase I have any particular rigorous belief system around medication, just an innate belief that the human body has an incredible ability in taking care of itself if we let it, and if we listen to it. When something does not feel right, or I am under the weather in some way - I first just "live with it" - letting my body have a chance to fix it (which it normally does when it is a passing pain or bug of sorts), and if it persist, I start looking for causes in my own behaviour or recent lack of selfcare, and if there is anything I can do in that regard to "help out" the body. Simple meditation foucusing on deep breathing , barefoot yoga outside , or a swim in the ocean always seems very helpful if I am run down - or I look at my eating habits or other habits to try and adjust to give myself a healthier boost. Many people think I am silly to be so against "unesseary" medication - I never will accept antibiotics unless I have a life threathening infection (which has happened once in my life due to an accident), or eat painkillers unless the pain is actually unbearable, such as right after pulling a widom tooth of another form of operation. Many think I am a bit strange for beeing willing to suffer a bit of pain in stead of just numbing it with a couple of painkillers. To me pain is part of my body's signaling system, and enduring a bit of mild pain give me the opportunity to find out what is the matter, if it is sometrhing passing - due to a reason I can recognize, or something more serious going on. I want to kepp my dsinaling systems on track, not numb ed or confused by unessery infusion of external chemicals. After watching this episode I starting to think that maybe I am on to something :-) - and allthough I cannot claim any deep knowledge, or refer to a wast amount of data - only what "feels" right - I will for sure continue on my track - with some new information and understanding that really resonated, and that I found very helpful, Thanks :-)

I am identical to you and the values you reported. Closing in on 60, no medications; people think I'm 45. I make it a priority to sleep as much as I want (8 - 9 hrs a night), to eat unprocessed foods as much as I can, avoid sugars, eat paleo or keto as much as possible, minimize alcohol as best I can, meditate, exercise, sauna, get sunshine, and nip stress in the bud as soon as I can. I avoid big pharma like the plague, and also give the body time to heal and do what I can to educate myself with natural ways to augment the healing process. I am interested in what he is talking about to see how I can mitigate any imbalances that may lead to illness further down the road. It makes sense to me.

I've been telling people for years that I want to live to be at least 100 years of age, so it was the title of this video that grabbed my attention and got me here besides already being a subscriber because you do have some of the most interesting people on. A few years ago, I changed my diet and started exercising every day. I also made myself a stand up desk (I work online so was sitting waaay to much) and recently started 'breath' work. I've also been saving my loonies and toonies, in order to get some genetic testing done, but, I learned so much more from Mr. Brecka that I'm going to start putting into practice, today. I already knew about cold water therapy and the benefits, but living in Canada and experiencing and dreading Winters...; ya, I haven't done the cold water therapy yet, BUT, after listening to this podcast, I will begin working this into my daily routine. Thank you for this fantastic informative interview :)

YES! Finally, someone that speaks my language! As someone with ADHD who has been hyper-focusing on the root cause of it, this makes so much sense to me. I feel like I'm getting close to figuring out what my personal body needs to get my brain and body functioning optimally. As I researched all of my symptoms from brain to body everything kept coming back to a deficiency in folate, B12, and iron, all having to do with the production of blood cells, which makes sense with my genetics as I'm homozygous MTHFR. I respect Gabor Mate so much but I don't think trauma is the only root cause of ADHD. I believe genetics combined with environmental factors play a bigger role.

@@lukecanvin3291 , I got both Ancestry and 23andme and used the raw DNA to upload to 3rd party services to interpret the results. I believe it was $59 CDN for Ancestry and $129 for 23andme. Ancestry covers more genes then 23andme, but adding 23andme helps to fill some of the gaps, or as the op mentioned he uses Spectra Cell which is $500, and I just looked on their site and it looks like it just tests for MTHFR? which is covered by both Ancestry and 23andme plus you get thousands more. I'm still in the process of determining what "raw materials" I personally need but I know I definitely need B vitamins with extra, iron folate (b9) and B12. I'm doing some testing to see what else I'm low in and experimenting with different supplements with the guidance of my Naturopath. I'm a couple years in and narrowing in on what I need. If you search methylation map or pathway, you'll see how complex and interconnected everything is so it can be a slow process. Wow. Very nice. When I had anxiety and depression, my gut was terrible. When I went low carb/keto, I started eating healthy stuff my great grandma does (yes, and she still drives), everything improved. Even my lactose intolerance went away, just like that conveyor belt was going too fast to digest it. Eating more protein and healthy natural fats from animals like salmon, cod liver, dairy fats, etc has done a number of great things for me. I got stronger, more mobile, lost excess weight, and more. I still have ADHD, though. That didn't really change. Though it's a lot easier to manage without depression or anxiety.

Unfortunately, organic foods are not in some people's budgets and regular food is grown in depleted soil. Organic is more expensive.

Interesting episode, as someone who helps people overcome anxiety and depression and many other conditions, there is a lot of neuroscience out there regarding the limbic system of the brain, how trauma and how we attach to our caretakers in childhood, as well as nervous system dysfunction can lead to many chronic illnesses and mental disorders.
When the brain's fight-flight-freeze stress response is imbalanced it can lead to things like depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and more. If the limbic system and nervous systems are dysfunctional then it can cause methylation issues and taking supplements may not be as effective because the brain is sending danger signals and thus creating a cell danger response. Unless these things are brought back to balance it can be challenging to correct some of these health issues because the underlying core issues are not being addressed. Trauma can be a major factor in causing these imbalances and should not be overlooked or minimized.
