Mahalo for the nuanced conversation about informed consent and use of influence. The idea of safety is not only a do no harm issue, but also a matter of an alignment of expertise and capacity to do no harm in making the client feel safe. The concept of "informed" is where the perspective of the patient has a power differential.
your take on tcm is always marvelously clear - i'm subscribed because you make things logically click in my mind. these drunken-podcasts are great; i love that you and your guests share the nuances of how you do your thing. : )
question: the super personal points are usually for super deep issues which are not usually on the table in a practitioner/client relationship that deals with physiological symptoms. pulling out the weird points is not appropriate unless you're willing to get psychologically entrenched .. which is a whole other level of care (for both patient and practitioner). Q: needling the deeply personal points, how necessary is it in basic tcm?
