- Android TV is pushing out an update which will show Adverts on the home screen. This Android TV update has already made it to most Android TV's (Philips / Sony). There is some debate if the Nvidia Shield will get this update. Either way, we can follow the process in this video to ensure we don't see any adverts on our Android TV Home screen.

Imagine buying a car, and the manufacturer decides to remotely limit you to 55 mph. Sure they can. But that's a damn good way to make sure I never buy your product again.
Gives us an option like the Kindles. People who bought the Shield bought it because it didn't have ads.

If my shield gets this update I will most likely just put in a 3rd generation Chromecast. CC is about the only feature I use anymore anyway.

I believe you can turn it off in the settings.
The ads are not specifically due to an update, it's just that ads were introduced to different regions at different times. I started getting ads when I was using a US VPN location, long before I got them when not using a VPN. When I would disconnect from the VPN, in time, the home screen would revert to having no ads again. Also I only get ads in Australia, when using v3 of Android TV Home, but get them with v2 when using a US location.
As mentioned in the video, the update is a 2 part process. FIrstly you will need the latest version of "Android TV Home" app and the 2nd part is the server side change, which, as you say - seems to be implemented in certain regions only.

That's how they pay for it with advertising right? Everyone gets advertising on tv or on your phone or tablet on website
Well, I paid for my Nvidia Shield Pro without ads when it first came out, it was not inexpensive....... this update is insulting

I'm using Wolf, but the LeanBack launcher appears to have a less cumbersome interface for customization...I may give it a try thanks to your demo. As for the ads...whether your device has them or not your aps will come 'fully loaded' so I'm not sure it matters.

Hi, can you please help me. On my Sony Android TV I have customize channels, and than from left side under play next, I have Netflix and the others, like its shown on your video at 4:52. When I got to add new app in customize channels I can't find app so I can add them on the left side. The apps are there, but they do not appear in customize channel. Any idea how to do that?

Hi TDUK. I have two Shields, three Firestick 4K’s and one MiBox. I have Wolf on all six of them. I also have automatic updates disabled on all of them. I am using the APK you provided to disable updates on my Sticks. I have the Wolf status bar turned off on the MiBox since I have not found a version of Wolf customized for MiBoxes. Thanks again.
It's important to block updates and disable stock launchers as soon as you can on all these devices or you buy a better premium device
Mine did and know I keep getting storage full and I dnt know what to do because I already added external hard drive and merged it
In my opinion if you're paying a lot of money for a device you should not be seeing adverts as I have the Nvidia Shield I really hope it never comes to that point where ADS will be present thanks for the video

My Chromecast with Google TV has the Wolf Launcher installed. My Shield currently has the stock launcher. If the Shield gets the update with adverts, can you say Wolf Launcher. LOL
How do you add apps to favourites on leanback launcher? I am using the chromecast with google tv
I'm pretty pissed that my nvidia shield that I've enjoyed for 3 plus years now all of the sudden as ads plastered on 1/3 of the home screen. Absolutely unacceptable.

The Nvidia shield will get the google tv update, they will be forced too, to keep it GOOGLE compliant.
They maybe able to hold out till the 8.2.4 or 9 update.
But certainly when it moved to Android 10.
I just bought the nokia 8000 and it didnt have the advert sceen then suddenly it switched into this, whats the point of owning this if its full of ads???

I factory-reset my Shield TV because it was getting very slow. Now the homescreen has reverted to the old version but I still get ads on it. How do I get the newer version back?

@@MichaelThompson-go8oc The current version of the home screen came back by itself after a a few reboots. I did not have to do anything special

I can't even use the android tv interface on the Hisense TV I own. It was great when I first purchased it 2 years ago, but since the software update, it's absolutely useless. I have to use an external device to be able to stream anything.

Did you use IP Vanish? It didn't work for me. The fact that I was using I VPN was still detected.

In the instructions it says Network debugging and in the video you say USB debugging.
Some devices have USB debugging and some have networking. Whichever you see, just turn it on.

I avoid adverts on everything by whatever means.
I've gone through the steps but when I return to home screen it shows original home screen. Debug is on and developer mode as well. Not sure what I've done wrong. Could someone explain a possible missed step?
Did you use the launcher manager ?
Yes , but when I click disable home launcher no other launcher appear though they are downloaded
@@louismarquez1847 open the custom launcher manually first to ensure it opens ok. Then open the launcher manager, select Disable Stock. Press the home key and you should see the custom launcher in the list. Ensure you have download the custom launcher from my website tutorial page.
@@TechDoctorUK does it make a difference if the launcher manager doesn't say ultimate? I didn't see an option for this. I removed everything and restarted from scratch. Thanks for your help, love your videos
