I don't know what's more mind-blowing: his speed, endurance or the never-ending variety? Many of the best drummers out there will run out of things to play after a minute or two if their arms don't seize up before then.

After 55 years of playing drums and listening to Buddy, and if I'm not mistaken 30 years after his passing, I still can only say "Man, oh man, oh man!" The greatest there ever was. Let's hope he's still jamming with Louie on the other side. Thanks for sharing this clip!

I've probably listened to and watched hundreds of Buddy's performances. This is one of his greatest solos I've heard in 50 years of listening to him. My gawd, the creativity of his playing is not of this Earth, never mind his utter mastery of the rudiments, stick control and finger control.

Oh my God!!The depth and the technical ability is simply mind-boggling!! Seemingly endless ability. For any of us that knows buddies work we understand he simply is and always will be one of a kind. It is constant enjoyment listening, seeing and hearing buddies music. However every once in awhile when we think we're getting good, something like this shows up on RUclips as a reminder of how much more practice and stick time we need to put in!! Haha!! Don't you love it?!

For me to say he is still the Greatest Drummer of all time, is Buddy Rich's limbs were all EQUAL! His left hand was as strong as his right, and his right foot was as strong as his left. It is apparent when you listen to those rolls!! His snare drum and the snares were always kept TIGHT, as was his Toms. You can NOT cheat on any of those drums which to the listener has you hearing perfection in those hands. Then you have the coordination between hands and feet, that are absolutely in sync! Mel Torme tells a story of when Buddy broke his arm or wrist, and he hadn't played at all in like 6 months or more. He called Buddy to go to a club downtown NYC to see a band. The band noticed Buddy and asked if he wanted to sit in. He DESTROYED that set of drums!! Even Mel was shocked. He hadn't played in over 6 months, and played as if he hadn't had any layoff.

All I can think of at the end of this (other than picking my jaw up off the floor and emptying my drool cup and changing my diapers is poor Louie...how in the world do you follow that...? Answer: You can't so don't even try. Hopefully Buddy was merciful and let poor Louie go first that time because as great as Louie was and still is this particular onslaught by the drum wonder is so earth - shaking, spellbinding and climactic that the entire show could have and should have been wrapped up after that...JB appropriately dubbed this the "hurricane" John Bonham must have heard this as a lad because I can definitely hear the "Thunder of Drums" channeled through Buddy here. Definitely one of the most if not THE most aggressive and relentless drum solo in history. Sort of like Dave Black's "train" bass drum solo but with cascades of paradittles on top injected with steroids and nitro-glycerin! JB thanks for sharing this between you and Cloudview you guys are keeping us die-hard in drum therapy heaven! Peace, Bob M.

Man, just when you' think you've heard the "best" solo from Buddy, here comes another. To my memory there isn't one where he travels around the kit with such a single stroke fury as this. And I can say with a100% certainty that nobody alive or dead could play close to this level of speed and fluidity. And I'm a big fan of drummers from all walks, eras and genres. Buddy couldn't do everything and isn't the greatest of everything that was or is possible on drums. But he did stuff that nobody else can do. Maybe Dennis Chambers could get close. And neither Buddy nor Dennis could do what Virgil Donati has accomplished either. Al said, the bar is too high here for the single stroke speed demons.
