    I liked how they avoided the cliche of “let’s cross the line together and both win.” Huey owned up to his mistakes and failed with dignity. That’s a good lesson in my book.

      I'm glad they moved away from the toxic "everyone wins" in this show. Competition is something children need to learn about. Defeat is life's greatest teacher and spurs many on to greatness while winning often breeds complacency.

    • @animasuperfreakgirl
      @animasuperfreakgirl 4 года назад +21

      Daniel I think the word “toxic” is a bit mis-chosen. I’m American culture we praise wining and competition for good and ill. It pushes innovation but it also makes us look at the world as a zero sum game even though in many situations that is not so. I took a class on communication and was shocked to find how often people assumed they had competing needs when the had commplimary needs or could even just create more resources to fill their needs. The cliche of “we can both win” fights against such a mind set and is valuable. It could potentially be dangerous if it was the only message or pervasive but considereding how many sports and sport analogies we have I don’t think that’s the case. However, it is just as important true to accept failure, others being better and not being ready for some thing. Which is why I liked this change of pace but I don’t think “we can both win” is toxic I think if utilized correctly it can be empowering and educational. If you feel like it has been used badly (complantancy) more often then not I can’t argue as I don’t exactly keep a tally of this😜. Sorry for the long response I was just having fun with this. Have a good day 🎉

    As much as it's played for laughs, Launchpad's countless failure badges can tell a lot about him. I remember friends pondering how Launchpad of all people managed to become a Senior Woodchuck himself given how dumb he is sometimes but seeing how many failure badges he has kind of shows how determined he is whenever he is set on a goal. He probably failed countless of times, learned from those mistakes...then made new ones, and then learned from those until at one point he DID manage to succeed. It highlights how he may be dumb, but still always tries to do his best.

    • @Silvermoondragon000

      I really like your take on Launchpad but in day of the only child he said: I didn't get to be Junior Woodchuck Scoutmaster by bending the rules - I got it by crashing the bus on a field trip and all the other scoutmasters quitting! But yea, this is why Launchpad is so relatable to me: He failed, he got back up, dusted his shoulders and tried again and again until he got it.

    Huey's story: They did a great job exploring his determination in becoming the best of the best, and that imaginary JWC guidebook was a nice addition to this conflict. The fact that the latter was voiced by Stephen Root (who I mostly know from King of the Hill) made it even funnier. Violet was also enjoyable for how resourceful she was during the race, along with her struggle in following Lena's 'advice' on friendly insults and being her usual self. And yes, it's great that Violet has two dads and Lena is now her adopted sister.
    Scrooge's story: I definitely enjoyed each of the family's reactions to the situations they're in, including Scrooge's confident attitude to almost being eaten by a bear and Della and Donald taking issue with nature. Speaking of the bear, I heard it was based on an African legend called the Nandi Bear, which also has some hyena traits in its design. The Tittertwill bird was also pretty cute with its Aracuan-like calls.

  • @wootmasterzorsx
    @wootmasterzorsx 4 года назад +13

    I think my favorite part of this episode was how the whole cast was on display, and yet nobody felt like they didn't get enough screen time and the focus was handled well across the cast. Huey obviously took center stage in the A plot, which set up Huey to be the focus triplet of this season, whereas the B plot had to juggle focus on Louie, Dewey, Webby, Donald, Della, and Scrooge, yet none of them ever really felt like they were starved for screen time during their adventure. Scrooge wanted to follow Isabella Finch's map and relive her adventures, Dewey was the one sidetracking everyone with the Tittertwill, Louie and Webby were interacting with Scrooge as the straight man and, well Webby, and Della was trying to get Donald to not be so angry at nature. Everyone had a story to follow and nobody felt underutilized in it.
    And I think why everyone being so encouraging works is because everyone was being encouraging to their own family and still staying in character, avoiding getting overly sentimental or sappy with it. Dewey shows his characteristic "act, don't think" attitude by saying who needs a stupid book of rules, Louie has his snarky charm show through calling Huey King Nerd, and Webby shows her conflict of interest in a slightly awkward encouragement of Huey while whispering to Violet, her new best friend, that she supports Violet, too, she just knows Huey is more insecure and needs the encouragement. And even Della being an enraged stage mom and challenging Launchpad over the challenge being rigged shows her as exactly Donald's sister by being hot blooded, and is just a hilarious, yet entirely believable aspect of Della's character.
    And then Lena, being Violet's adopted sister, is totally in character from her side of things, too. She's encouraging Violet by cheering for her successes, but she's also encouraging Violet to smack talk Huey, which is being a slightly bad influence on her by inadvertently feeding into Huey's insecurity and inferiority complex to Violet, which makes perfect sense for a rebellious teen like Lena. And yet, it never feels like Lena means it as anything beyond playful jabs and good natured teasing, which is why it works and it stays funny, because it all does feel just in good fun and also exactly how someone like Lena would act in this situation.
    Also, as a minor thing, I liked the gag where Scrooge just was too mad to alliterate, and the talking Junior Woodchuck Guidebook, since the design and voice actor did a good job making the character fun.

    I enjoyed this a lot too. With the way it executed the message, the character interactions (most notably with Huey and Violet and her and Lena, I hope we see more of Violet bonding with those two throughout the season) and how it sets up stuff like Huey’s arc for the season and FOWL being a threat to the future adventures.
    The only downside I had with this episode was that the subplot with Scrooge was kinda not too interesting compared to the rest. Minus the moments with Donald and Della, it featuring the bird from a rather obscure part of Disney history (it was apparently in the old Disney comics too) and how the ending of that subplot setup the conflict with FOWL.
    Also, Violet’s dads were in this. A nice piece of representation so far. I hope they reappear later on and have some dialogue next time.
    And a failure badge sounds like something that should be a thing in a way. Although they might refer to it as a “you can do better next time badge”, since “failure” can be a scary word at times.....
    Although what was with the Senior Woodchuck position being earned through a competition? That’s rather weird since that’s not how scout rankings work in real life. I guess the founders really wanted the position to be special.
    Nicely done video overall. You can take your time making them though, as a rushed video isn’t always a great video.

So well done!

    Before this episode I was wishing for the Fireside Girls to be in this series. Seeing two hyper-competent scouting groups seemed really cool.
    My favorite part was Huey accepting his actions. He knew he wasn't acting like a good Woodchuck and instead of making excuses or ignoring it like Louie of Dewey he owned up to it. I also loved the bit with the roadsigns to other places like St. Canard and Garbbable.
    Speculation for the future: I hope Goslyn shows up for training from Beakley. Since Webby has her flock of friends, I'd like to see an older Goslyn still ready for bear.

    I never thought I’d see a 15 minute ducktales review and agree 100% with it. That thing you said about wanting to see more of Donald and Della’s sibling interactions is exactly how I feel. People don’t seem to value enough these little moments we have where the characters are more relaxed (or maybe even tense family moments can be good) and are just being who they are in their core. On the newest episode, Louie’s Eleven, for me the best parts were when Daisy was “”falling in love”” for Donald. To me, the best parts of a show are when the characters have these light hearted and sweet interactions with each other that makes us know more and love their relationships more.

    Is it bad that my favorite part of this episode is when Lena is rooting for Violet and being mean to Huey by extension like how she told Violet to call him a clown. Especially since being a junior woodchuck is probably something the old Lena would have made fun of her or Huey for but is actually trying to be supportive and a good sister which is so fun to see.

    😜 Years later the Saberwing Imbroglio shook the Junior Woodchuck organization when it was revealed Violet had used magic during the competition to speed her along during the race. While the rules didn't forbid the use of magic an asterisk was placed next to her name in the role of senior woodchucks. Huey Duck, who won promotion in the following year, supported his friend though out declaring she'd deserved the rank far more than he did at the time. However he was also overheard in a conversation with Violet declaring "So that's how you beat me to the first marker with time to write that note!". 😜

    Each season premiere shows us which triplet is the main focus.
    First season: Dewey centric season; with his quest to find out about Della showcasing his adventurous nature.
    Second season: Louie centric season; with his quest to make money by being sharper than the sharpies and seeing the angles.
    Third season: Huey centric season. And let's see where this season takes him. Possibly being more than just the smart brother and getting more in tune with his emotions and making more friends.

      Albeit it seems more complicated than just "they're gay." Lena states Violet came from them (i.e. biological parents), and Violet has the beak of one and the hair of the other. I like the nods to the original series and even the theme song...I know that sounds weird but it's true...Season one they solved a mystery and season two was packed with the often cut line "danger lurks behind you there's a stranger out to find you"...now season three they literally say let's rewrite history XD...also LP not sounding like a total idiot is nice since in the original he was a little nuts but also competient when it came to morals and leading the Jr Woodchucks
    Ok forgive the length but you got me thinking about something...
    I never thought about the triplets growth during the seasons but after you said that it really makes sense...after the intro stuff in season one the focus was mostly on Dewey his growth and quest to find out about his mom while season two was mostly Louie and his money making shenanigans...now season three basically sets up Huey's arc right from the first episode...the more I thought about this however the more I realized the triplets weren't the only ones highlighted like this...
    In season 1 we do see Dewey trying to carve his identity and break out of the middle sibling cliche while trying to learn about his mom but Webby was right there with him the entire time...when we first meet her she is crazy about the Duck family's history but also socially awkward from being cooped up inside and only interacting with Beakly who has taught her combat...throughout the season she learns to open up and reaches out to a new friend Lena who she even tries to have a slumber party with and forms a strong friendship with...while all this is going on Scrooge is also going through a lot of growth and discovery...he slowly gets to know his family and even Webby through various adventures and interactions...we even see his backstory with Beakly and his relationship with his parents...over the entire season we see Scrooge go through a real roller coaster hitting all-time highs and heartbreaking lows
    In season 2 we see Louie start to grow and learn many things the hard way...especially when it comes to scheming and making money...but a good chunk of the season also focuses on Della her attempts to get home and her struggles adjusting to life on Earth and being a mom...she is so easy on the boys at first and tries to get to know each of them...heck she even has an adventure with Webby that brings them closer...and eventually she finds her voice and starts to really step up when it comes to being a parent (something I fully support but am still disappointed she never even got a lecture from Scrooge after pulling the exact same stunt with Dewey in the Doomsday Vault episode that she pulled with the rocket)...but she's not the only one struggling to adjust...after Webby befriends a new girl Violet they manage to bring Lena back from the land of the dead...now she has to not only adjust to being alive with no place to call home (at first) she has to get used to being related to Magica and possessing some of her magic...it's a major struggle that puts all her friendships to the test but she does learn to control her powers and is ok with who she is as are the others
    Now that we are in season 3 it's pretty clear from the first episode Huey is going to be the featured triplet but I have to wonder if Violet will also go on a growth roller coaster throughout the season...and the second episode really shines a light on Donald and by process of elimination he is the only adult member of the family left and after everything he went through in the previous seasons it only makes sense that now it's his turn...as you stated for the first time in 10 years the entire family is together and not fighting about the past...life is back to the typical normal for them and about to get very interesting
