I just did this job today I was done with everything in 30 min… I bought my door lock cylinder through Honda with the cable and 2 keys shipped to my door $100.. great video made the job super easy on my end thanks!!
Thanks! Superb detail that gave me the confidence to buy a cheap set of tools and save a couple hundred dollars on labor. Was a breeze to replace the cylinder after watching this instructional!
To remove the lock cylinder you don't touch the 2 screws you showed. You have to remove 3 little screws on the opposite side from the plastic casing and then the C clip (retaining clip? )
So if you just want to remove the lock cylinder, you don't need to remove the actuator - because once the lock cylinder bracket is off you can pull the cable to an opening in the door and then have access to the 3 screws on the lock cylinder. Do you agree?
I just completed this. My goal was just to get the lock cylinder to a locksmith (actuator worked fine). My key would not turn either way so was unable to turn off security alarm. Took off lock cylinder bracket, pulled the cable/bracket to opening, then removed the 3 screws from the cable plastic casing, then took the lock cylinder/bracket to locksmith to rekey the lock. Also, did not have to remove the rod from door handle to actuator.
I second this. Did it today. The 3 screws do the trick. And no alarm went off but I didn't take it off completely. The wire is flexible enough to access the screws
2 things 1 if my alarm system is stuck set on bc my key cylinder went out could I use a screw driver to turn the actuator to make the alarm disengage? For short term fix ? And also when replacing does the key have to be coded with the lock or does it not matter what locking mechanism as long as it fits correctly and has separate keys
Having similar issue what did u do to end up fixing this issue ?everytime I open door alarm goes off because key won’t turn to unlock on car door cylinder, no remote to lock/unlock either
I have a beater Civic 2010 that someone tried to steal and they broke the lock. Because of that every time I go to an event I have to unlock the driver side from the passenger side. I just replaced the cylinder and it took me about 90 minutes and everything works perfectly even though the process was a little different (DX model)
If the key doest Open the door even with keyless control what should be the problems actuaror or key cylinder to openen need turn the key and push unlock on the control to open
+wally m Thanks for watching! The door lock cylinder will not match your existing key, so you will need to get that sorted out first. That other issues could be caused by a number of things, but we are not able to diagnose an issue like that over the internet.
Awesome video. Only took a few minutes to change out. Very good walkthrough with detailed cues to look for. Made the job smooth and simple. Now i can lock my doors without getting locked outside
What would I need to do if my door closes by accident in the middle of this? Because that is just what happened to me now. I’m trying to figure out how to open my door!!😬
Very good video, good quality, comprehensive, good technician/shop. You might want to re-label this comprehensive vid to "Drivers Door Lock and Related Parts Repair".
+Marc Ratelle We currently do not have an auto repair video specific to your vehicle. You might be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your application. 1aauto.com
Take the bolts out of the handle and under the window master switch. Unhook the window switch. And grab the bottom of the door with the window rolled down and pull up as hard and as fast as you can. I had a problem with the right side of thre panel. I used gloves and pried it open with my fingers and a screw driver by the speaker... Then it's pretty easy after that. Sorry i suck at explaining shit 😕😂
You can pull out the center pin OR push it in and release it. Pushing the pin in DOES also release the pressure on the clip and after you get it out of the door, You can then push the pin back out 2 clicks and it can now be inserted and snapped back in with one click and it is locked when it is flush again... Try it and you will see
Do I have to replace the lock if it’s just my door handle that broke. Because my lock works fine, it’s just the cheap plastic handle that broke. The handle comes out but doesn’t retract back into the door. It also doesn’t pull on any cable when I go ahead and try to open it. It’s just loose springless. Cheap plastic. They can’t even make door handles these days! They’re ww2 Jeep’s that still have a functioning door handle. Hell there’s even model t’s with the original working door handle. I love Honda but c’mon guys! You knew these were going to brake in a matter of time. Smh

if you just wanted to turn off the security alarm, there is a much easier and simpler way: disconnect the fuse for the horn

So if the lock cylinder itself is messed up you're really going to need to take it to the dealership?

What the frick Honda, unservicable is not a security feature. I bet you can replace those cylinder screws at a hardware store.
It's a small push clip but you didn't push it in you pulled it out...
