Hats off to Jason, the world’s most eligible bachelor. Without him doing the tires and brakes and other stuff, we wouldn’t get very many diagnostic (my fav) videos from Eric. I am a software engineer and I find the logic you use to fix cars endlessly fascinating. I am addicted.

Engineers are a joke. They only know how to make the job 10 times harder and take 10 extra steps that are unnecessary. Experience and common sense will beat any engineer every time and every engineer is always "shocked" when they find out that the book they learned from was wrong .. this isn't a personal attack but I work around about 5 software engineers and about 15 engineers so let's just say I've had plenty experience with engineers.

I had a grand caravan where the window wouldn't go down, and various other issues with the drivers door. Broken wiring between the body and the door. Down to the exact color wire that was broken in his video! Multiple times I have been working on a car, and something jogs my memory about a SMA video. Quick search, and bam, he has done it before me!
You talked about when you son was little. I had my 5 year old granddaughter out in the boat yesterday and was letting her steer. After a few minutes she started asking what everything was and what it did. When we got to the throttle, her eyes light up when I explained what it did. We were going along a few more minutes, when all of a sudden, the boat took off like a rocket, my wife fell off her seat and my granddaughter is all smiles and laughing. She loves going fast.
When putting a screw back into plastic or wood, I always turn it backwards until I feel it drop down into the pre-existing threads. I haven’t had a problem with the screw trying to cut new threads since I started doing that 30 years ago. Well, as long as I was putting the same (right) screw back in. Lol.

Yeah and if you were my dad, hitch pins for the tractor. At least that was he used my brand new set of Craftsman "professional" screw drivers for when I was a teenager, haha.

I just posted above about that. You don’t have to use drugs to enjoy life people!! I’m the same way as Eric. It doesn’t hurt to be in a good mood and joke around. Life’s to short to be miserable my friends!
The Phillips vs JIS screwdriver bit really hit home for me. My RC airplanes have little screws everywhere... and they are "Phillips" BUT they are not a #1 Phillips or a #2 Phillips. They are like a #1.25-#1.5 Phillips. I always chalked it up to crappy chinese quality control; until I discovered a "#1 JIS" was the correct size! No more stripped little tiny screws! That is the ONLY time I've ever needed to differentiate between Phillips and JIS. LOL Thanks Eric O!
My son's Honda CR-V (2007) had the same issue, and I was able to change the back door actuators and was able to fake my way through the front passenger one as well, all thanks to the detail in this video. Nice walkthrough and entertaining commentary.
Thank you! My 20-year-old daughter just used your video to fix her noisy locks. The actuator died years ago when it was still my husband's car. No more embarrassing loud locks!
I built a toolbox almost exactly like that when I was 14 or 15 when I began helping my dad in construction during the summers. I had it for many years and gave it to my best friend when I moved from my first house. That brought back memories good and bad.
Excellent training video, good lighting, good camera access/angle, good sound quality and detailed teaching commentary, combined with both wit and humour. Thank you. ******
As always Mr. O we appreciate, or at least I do, not wasting time in the video with looking up factory torque specs and tightening all screws and bolts down to stated specs. And much like you, any repairs I do, I always look up and torque down to specs when nobody is watching.
Eric O. is "efficiency in motion", "smooth as silk", both taking apart and putting back together. Been putting off working on a Dodge door because the talent may not be there. What did he say, "if I can do it.......????.." Well maybe. Thanks for sharing!
A good tip when replacing door latch thingmabobs: after your done always manually push the latch closed and make sure your door handle works before closing the door lol. Would suck to close the door to then find out something went wrong and it’s stuck closed.

Thank you for the video. My 2008 Crv has 219,000 miles and I have to replace the rear door lock. The last set has lasted since I bought it with 96,000 miles, 9 years ago (Dealer replaced for free).

I would put it back exactly how I found it. I still do that to this day when I repair something, It is very hard to tell if I took something apart and repaired it.
Hey man, great video. My biggest issues were the removal and then replacing of the unit around the window track. Your advice to slide it in from the bottom was spot on, cause there really a'int room to turn and remove/install. I was beating my head on that one for a while, then I found this video. Also the metal rod detach with the retaining clip was tough. Anyway, I conquered the beast, and for a 2008 with 224K, saving the money was totally worth it! Thank you and stay busy!
My wife's CRV has the same problem on one rear door. It still works and I just tell her to live with the noise. If it still works, I ain't fixing it. However, I have saved this video in case another door starts adding to the noise. Thanks, Eric. Great tutorial that gives me confidence I can do it myself if the time comes.
Dang Eric! Was on a job and almost missed your new vidya! Watching it now my friend! Did a brake job on a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer today. It was crazy how stuck those rotors were for a 2017! Got out the ole 6lb mini-sledge. I’m a mobile man without the luxury of big nasty. Lol. Only big nasty I got is a sledge and upstate NY muscle. Haha thanks for another Spielberg! 😆
Thanks for the pointers. It helps to know the steps. I must suggest, though, that you mention to your viewers that using a screw torque impact driver will damage the door with the hammer impacts. It's very thin sheet metal there holding the door lock. This damage might make it impossible to re-mount the door lock. The deformation of the sheet metal will cause screw hole and power plug misalignment. It did for me. Very frustrating until I realized what happened. I had to reach inside the door with a very heavy tool, used for body work, and pound it back out. Then the door lock fit and I was able to complete the assembly. If I could ask. How did you transfer the door latch rod to the new door lock. I had to remove the plastic attachment to get it off. THEN, I had to remove the new one and cut one side off of the bottom of it to get the rod attached. The old one was cut so it made sense to me, weird for a factory to do that. II though it might be a puzzle, but, no. I gave up and cut it. It worked. Thanks again Gil
Thank you sir this is going to be a lot easier on Monday when my part comes in to replace this myself instead of taking it to a dealership and pay them outrageous labor rates which I used to work at a dealership Chrysler Jeep and Dodge dealers for 20 years and thank you and have a wonderful weekend
Hey, Mr. O. That kind of repair doesn't use your detective work like most other repairs, but it has its own kind of challenge. Thanks for taking care of the camera so as to let us see what you are doing. It is a big help. Thanks for sharing! Stay Healthy!
Had to change the driver door lock actuator on my wife's old Dodge Journey. The only reason I was able to figure it out is because I work in an auto factory, and I spent just enough time on the door line to have a general idea of how the whole thing is put together. Great video!!
Eric, this is exactly the video I needed for doing the non-working interior door handle of the same side door on my Honda Fit. I've checked the handle and the cable head is on so it must be the lock side that's bad and now I need to remove the lock and replace the cable and you've given me the the way I have to take the lock out with the tricks to doing this.
Vessel makes a line of screwdrivers called the Impacta that have an impact driver built in the handle, in +2 and +3. That way you could give the door latch screws some additional persuasion. The impact is loosen only.
I just bought a set of the non impact vessel phillips, they sure fit/grip better than a #1 or #2. I've been wrenching for 43 yrs and never heard of JIS until recently.

Except they do.
Only bent screwdrivers are pry bars. Straight ones are chisels. :-P
Any tool’s a hammer if you use it wrong enough.
I have certainly used screwdriver handles as hammers before!

Where's the "Thrush" and STP stickers??
Comp Cams and Isky are the top brands from what I know of. Back in the day, many of the other brands wouldn't live long or destroy cam hardware.
