I just fixed my CRV with help of this video. I was having some trouble until I saw this video and the great closeups. That is what I needed. Thank you!
My CRV is a 2008. My part was ~$75 at the local Honda dealer. I could have save couple dollars had I gone to O'Reilly, but they had to order the part in. If you have 2012+ I would call about getting your's fixed under warranty even if your mileage is up.
Thanks for posting this. It was a great help. My rod was very difficult to get out of the door handle. If you’re having difficulty keep trying. It took me a while.
Brian Eslick is a professional man that I did watch. I like his video very much because it is very clear, detail, short, and does not take too much to watch.
I've been working on my own cars for years so a video like this is pure gold for me. It's clear and precise. It goes step by step to the part replacement then goes back to the start. 💯
Thanks! Just finished the job, rear lock works perfectly now, and more importantly, the tailgate unlocks when doors unlock. I had a lot of trouble getting out the infamous 3 screws. I recommend doing this first. No point in taking the door apart and then not being able to remove those screws. 1screw came out with PB Blaster, elbow grease and #3 driver. The other 2 would not budge, even with an impact driver (I declined to bash hard enough to dent the door). They finally came out easily after a little heat from a propane torch. I also had a little trouble getting the rod off the door handle, but eventually it came out. I bought my actuator from Walmart online - it was around $21. Couldn't have done it without the video. Thanks!
This video saved me a lot of money. The shop wanted to charge $99 for a diagnostic before fixing anything when I KNEW what the problem was so I said screw it im doing it myself. This was the best video I found online. Thank you
Awesome instructions! Installed and working great. This is my second install because the first actuator assembly I bought was defective (worked for about a week and then stopped and prevented the door from opening AT ALL). I was facing a challenge of trying to remove the door panel from the inside and hack away at the actuator with a chisel and hammer to break the door latch free, OR paying the dealer a bazillion dollars to un-F my repair (probably with a chisel and hammer). I kept trying the handle every so often, just in case it decided to work again. Nope, nope, nope. Stuck shut. Then, on Valentine's Day, I tried opening it AND IT OPENED! WOOT! Bought a new latch actuator ASAP and re-used these same instructions. Success! It sounds and feels smoother and crisper than the first one, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't my installation that was the issue (it worked fine a dozen times or so over a week). I'll leave the door panel off for a few months, just in case. At least that's one less hurdle if the actuator seizes up like the first one.
It took me about seven hours, a lot of the time was getting the three door latch screws out after buggering them up really good. This video really helped a lot, it was well lit and clearly explained without a lot of excess words. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you Brian for the excellent video! I was discouraged at first to undertake this job, but after watching your video I ordered the part. It took me 2 hrs total for the job. Hardest part was those 3 screws - a heat gun turned out to be my friend. Another snug was disconnecting the rod from the outside door handle - it was hard to pry it off as there is very little room to gain good leverage. I have used a separate hole in proximity of that connection to put a flat screwdriver through it and then successfully pried it off. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this guide! I know nothing abut cars and this was my first attempt at something like this and with your steps i actually fixed both of my doors. The three screws that attach the actuator to the door were a pain to take off but eventually got them out.
I want to say thank you very much Brian for this video , I just finish to replace one in my car, probably took me 3 hours to do, I don't know how you did for film and do it , the only problem I did have was take out the 3 screws because I used the regular screwdriver since I don't have the impact one ,the hard part is taking out and putting in the Actuator.but in the end every thing came out perfect and you saved me a lot of money.thank you again.
This is a big Thank You for sharing this video. I successfully removed and replaced the rear actuator on my Honda CRV. Along with a big thank you to my wife for her assistance and my friend Anthony for his expert advice. Note to all readers, having the right tools really helps.
Just fixed the door locking mechanism on my crv. Was the best to the point video out there. Getting the door actuator in past the window beam was a little tough. Other than that was a breeze. Thanks brother.
Removing the top of the rod with a screwdriver thru the access hole by the door bumper worked better for me. I didn't have much luck trying to pry it off from below.
Great instructional video with easy to follow steps. Only negative comment: a couple of the edits are pretty tight so some information was a little hard to follow. Most specifically 3:30- 3:41. I spent a LONG time figuring out that I wasn't looking at something on the actuator, but instead, on the handle. The actions fly past pretty quickly and the edits are very tight. But everything else is very solid without a lot of extraneous stuff. Thanks.
My actuator started making noise a few days back.. I found your video which was very helpful and I just completed the repair, thanks for the assist..🙂. Cory
A well done 10 minute Video for a 2 hour job. It's done and it works just like new. I ended using a thin flat wrench to pop door handle rod free. That was the most difficult part of the project.. I'm 75, been working on cars since I was a kid. You didn't need RUclips video back then..
Excellent post, thank you! Everything went as planned except I could not get the actuator housing around the track no matter how I tried without risking track damage and/or cracking the actuator housing. I was able to lift the bottom of the track outwards (where the 10mm bolt attaches to the track) and was able to slide the actuator up underneath it without issue. Thank you again for the very helpful post!
Great video! Looked at a couple of others as well but with your video the information was precise, and so informative that I was able to replace my actuator on my 2007 CRV in just over an hour.
To the point, GREAT camera work, knowledgeable tech, perfectly accurate. Nice work! Tell me then, is replacing the passenger side front risking an air bag deployment? Dealer did the left front, I did both rears. Only the R/F remains and I'm sure it will need replacing sooner rather than later.
I have the same issue as in the video and wondering how hard it actually is to get this done... I'm just worried I'll mess it up and not be able to put it back together LOL
I fixed my 2011 Honda CRV door with this video.! Thanks!!The part I got from NAPA works fine but I had to make the plastic clip out of water bottle caps. The c lip with the new part was too loose and the original clip broke apart when I tried to use it.
I hope this tid bit of information helps someone, If the actuator assy you buy doesnt come with the back arm but instead just comes with a new little white thing to snap your old one on... dont put the arm on until you get the assembly in place. It makes life much easier to get it in place and you can reach in and snap the arm on when your done. I learned the hard way because my arm popped off trying to get it by the window channel and made it so much easier just to pop it back on when it was in.
Nice instructional video. Thanks. I have a 2010 CR-V with a left, rear passenger door lock problem that I'm thinking does not call for replacing the actuator. The driver's control of door locks works fine to lock/unlock. But when the left rear door is unlocked it can ONLY be opened from the outside. The inside lever of this door is essentially 'limp' when pulled. Any suggestions as to what I can try?
Thank you, on my 07 neither of the passenger doors will stay locked. They unlock themselves almost immediately after pressing lock, do both doors need actuators ?
Great video! I'm tempted to do this job myself. I have the replacement actuator already. I just don't know if I have all the right tools and strength. Does anyone know how much a mechanic would charge for this?
Great video. I did the front passenger and it pretty much carries over. The replacement I ordered didn't come with the latch bar so I ended up having to cut it off the old one.
Working on figuring my crv lock actuator right now. It’s a consistent locking sound though, when I lock it, it will lock itself about 4-10 times before stopping, any clue?
Best advice on here is use a propane torch on the 3 bolts till the bolt feels hot to touch about 30 seconds, then I used a ratchet with #3 and the bolts removed like butter.
My brother was able to get the rod out but broke something in the handle and the spring came out. I think I need to replace the door handle now but I can't get to the screw on the right side. Any ideas?
Got everything apart in 15 mins. Just one thing hanging me up. The rod to the outside door handle isn't coming off. I swung the retaining clip around it no problem, but for the life of me, I can't get the rod loose.
Great video! It helped me except my impact driver did a very bad number on the three Phillips screws on the side of the door with the latch. Pretty instantly stripped them out. Thought I'd ask a male friend (that NEVER works with these kinds of things) made it way worse! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I'm at a loss, might have to call a mechanic about just that part!! 😂😂
I got the panel off and released the child lock on May 2011 Honda CRV... i cant get the door open to get at the three large screws... How do you get the lock to release?
And if the rear passenger door is stuck in the locked position, and the door is closed, and won't open AT ALL, from either the inside or the outside? (Meaning that it is locked, and the actuator is frozen or stuck, or some other part of the assembly is frozen, and you CANNOT MANUALLY MOVE THE LOCK SWITCH ON THE DOOR!) How do you work around this issue? With the door unable to be opened, getting the door panel off that door looks like it's gonna be a giant PITA.
I was too lazy to go all the way ( THOUGHT) I could just unplug and noise problem solved, BUT found out the hard way that the back hatch won’t unlock so I thought I could just cut one single wire WOOHOO I guessed right and cut the pink wire!! Time and money saved, knowing full well that door has to be manually locked/ unlocked
I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I previously replaced the actuator two years ago with a new one and now that new one is starting to make the same noise. Ugh... Did you have any other problems after just cutting the pink wire to bypass the circuit for the back hatch?
Had to smash the living shet out of my impact driver. Started to strip the heads of the screws. Caved in the door slightly. I had to resort to an impact driver bit on my air hammer to get them loose. Honda totally effed up on this one. There is no reason an impact driver should have a hard time getting the screws loose.
I just fixed my CRV with help of this video. I was having some trouble until I saw this video and the great closeups. That is what I needed. Thank you!
David Nelson glad the video helped. Thank you for watching and writing!
do you happen to know if this is the same for the honda crv 4th generation? 2012-16?
how much did the actuator cost btw?
My CRV is a 2008. My part was ~$75 at the local Honda dealer. I could have save couple dollars had I gone to O'Reilly, but they had to order the part in.
If you have 2012+ I would call about getting your's fixed under warranty even if your mileage is up.
David Nelson how do put off the the three side screws, I tried many ways, while failed, gg

Thanks a ton for posting this, Brian. Using your clear walk-through, I was able to replace my right rear actuator in about an hour -- no trouble.
