the horror and rpg community needs more games like darkwood. I'm not sure that the aptmosphere, and the creeping terror, and moments of lasting horror, have ever been matched by another game
My first time in the silent forest was terrifying, ended up getting chased out by a monster and didn’t come back until day 7 when I had a single shot pistol and capped that mf and took over the 2nd hideout, I’m playing on hard for my first playthrough I’ve died once so far but ate an embryo.

I remember hearing this at the doctor’s house realizing just how far I’d come, seeing the ground pulled apart by the forest while listening to this music was such a serene feeling. Knowing that this is where I was now, and that there may be horrifying creatures off in the distance, but they were not here. Here I could sleep, at long last, knowing that I was perfectly safe.

Perfectly safe? Not even your own bed in your own apartment is safe. It’s all part of the Darkwood.
The atmosphere alone in this game nails it. Darkwood is one of the best horror, yet underrated game of all time.
I love this game. I've never played a game with a better atmosphere. I need more of this kind of games
Honestly after 5+ years in customer service, a dark woods doesn't sound so bad.
The Darkwood takes people and turns them into the monsters they truly are.
@kaj7135 My man, 6 years of customer service and a two decades of school couldn't do that, I think I'm fine.
I think this is the main theme of the whole game. It really sets the mood the whole story.

You’re missing out. Easily one of the greatest survival horror games of all time.
Ive recently begun playing this. Starting out, ive been in many games and been many people. This feels different. I genuinely feel uncomfortable going any further, and i havent taken a step outside. I dont think i want to know just how this story ends, or worse...how the telling of it changes me.
Despite that, the ambience is unervingly sweet. Like a corrupted, blighted wraith putting you to sleep with a drippy, poisonous lullaby.
You predicted the story so on point its not even funny.

Never had a game ever caught me lacking in willpower. Not the Amnesia games, not any of the scariest horror games. I always pulled trhough getting the good ending, but this game had me like a sleep deprived holding their own eyes open, and when i got to the end i could finaly lay in that bed and finish the game. With 1 available death left on the mode i was playing before complete restart, i was satisfied that i was finished. Now i look back and realize my old save has ended in my character laying entrenched in that wood forever. I did not win, i gave up.
