I watch it on theater and I was blown away with Babylon. For me personally... now it became my favorite Damian Chazzle film, before that is Whiplash and now is Babylon. Is an epic drama! A 3 hours of bumpy ride and romantic nightmare. BABYLON is totally wild and chaos. A chronicles the rise and fall of multiple characters during Hollywood's transition from silent film to sound films in the late 1920s. I love it so much and I can't wait for the 4K steelbook.
I saw this back in theaters on December 28th 2022 in theaters and it was such a blast, I enjoyed it from start to finish. And I’m gonna watch this movie again tonight because I bought it on digital.
Dude, please learn your terminology. A brand new movie is not a 4K restoration. The film is almost still wet. What did they have to restore. It's a 4K transfer. It's a native 4K Digital Intermediate, but it is NOT a 4K restoration.
Saw this movie on a plane flight earlier this year and absolutely loved it. They did blur out some of the nude scenes and might have edited some of the scenes but I still enjoyed it. After seeing it again on one of the streaming services I knew I had to get it on physical disc. Finally got my steelbook copy after I noticed that stock was starting to dwindle. Picked it up for MSRP and I'm so happy to add it to my collection. Definitely an underrated film.
Loved this movie. Audacious, ambitious, outrageous, extremely entertaining and at times quite brilliant. Never a dull moment. Watched it on Paramount +
It’s a rough watch but I enjoyed it. The performances are fantastic..besides Harley Quinn character being in it. Robbie sounded like Quinn throughout the movie to me. She just couldn’t shake that voice. If edited with some scenes cut out, I’d add it into my collection. I liked it-but I cannot add it to my collection.
It has some very accurate portrayals of Hollywood in that era. There was a guy who sold the actors drugs while on set, even the guy who was peed on was a fictional version of a true story, however she didn't have an overdose, she was crushed to death by his weight and yes people did try to cover it up. The singing in the rain scene, is a lovely recreation of a scene from the film Hollywood Revue of 1929, which was a nice touch, i really enjoyed Babylon, great performances from everyone and a great story. I loved it.
Is that $62M domestic or full? Does it include foreign receipts? I ask because a lot of movies appear to not make money, but when they total all the receipts including overseas box office, it does much better. I've not seen it yet but it seems that it's a big movie on spectacle, and those movies tend to do well in Europe, where the emphasis on the spoken word isn't as important as the images on the screen. At any rate, I'm really looking forward to seeing it it, and also plan on getting the 4k steelbook.
I feel like a good way to describe this movie without any details about the movie would be to compare it’s vulgarity and craziness to the Wolf of Wall Street and it’s atmosphere to The Great Gatsby. As someone who studied film production and work in the industry I absolutely loved this film but can also understand why some may dislike it
Seen this in theaters and loved it. It was so grand. This was as much an experience in theater as Avatar 2 was. I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the film. It was really long and because the 3rd act kinda fell apart, it felt like it. The first two hours flew by though. I plan to buy it on 4K but not till there is a price drop under $20.
Ken, the movie IS based on real people from the silent film era. Margot Robbie is a stand in for Clara Bow. And Pitt is a stand-in for some dude whose name I don’t remember but who was a huge silent star who couldn’t cut it when sound was introduced. He fictionalized their stories a bit but it’s definitely based on two real people. I agree with you that the movie is beautifully shot…and too long.
Guy who couldn't cut it was John Gilbert. People were shocked to see the perceived superstud bass type suddenly sound like a high register guy instead. Unforgivable!
@@MrEdWeirdoShow Thanks MrEd. Yeah, I remember reading about the movie when it was in development and they were taking about how Brad Pitt was going to play the biggest star of his age…and they said the name you just posted (John Gilbert) and I was like “who?” and then immediately forgot it. Google says he was the highest paid star for like 5+ years in the 20s and 30s….and most of his movies no longer exist. 😳
I love Babylon. It's to long, and it was very much mis-marketed. I agree in Margo but disagree on Brad. Look at Bullet Train. I love everything the movie does, it just needed to be tightened up. Agree, 2.5 hours would've been enough. I'll definitely get this steelbook.
I did see it in the theatre! I like it for the most part! I do have a few issues with it. I wish they wouldn't have cut out my favorite part from the trailer! Brad Pitt's dance and yell when he falls off the balcony is cut down! The trailer version is hilarious!!
Regarding your comments about spending too much time with the characters and not really caring for them when you're meant to, I think that was one of the points of the movie. As film changed throughout the years, the audience and studios stopped caring about the stars of the past and had all moved on to the next big thing.
I saw the trailer for this probably a dozen times in the theater. I never had any interest in seeing it because the trailer gave me no impression whatsoever what the movie was supposed to be about.
Felt like a Tarantino movie through out - at least an impression of one. If Tarantino had made this his tenth and final movie, would that have been that big of a surprise given the subject matter?
My wife and I MOSTLY enjoyed it...they could have taken out some gross parts w/out changing the movie. BTW this movie was based on some movie stars at the time w/out naming them. I think THIS WILL be a cult classic as time goes by:). 3.75 out of 5 stars
Hello- why when there's nothing else to bitch and moan about a film people will mention how long it is??? i guess TV has in fact destroyed our attention spans.
How do you review a movie when you didn't even watch it in one sitting? Expecting a movies third act to land after you just amputated the emotion, pacing, and momentum of the first act by pausing it for 24 hours and coming back to it is just not realistic and you're ruining the experience for yourself. The movie was designed as a three hour experience where the third act pays off the emotion you're feeling from the first act. Do you think it's a coincidence that your issue is with the second half, after you had paused it and waited a day later to watch it? I get triggered by the modern audiences constantly, constantly, constantly whining about 3 hour films and their viewing habits because masterpieces like Lawrence of Arabia, Once Upon a Time in America, Yi Yi, Andrei Rublev, etc. won't be able to exist anymore with the media constantly slandering long run-times anytime a movie is over 2 hours. The problem is our attention spans because of social media. The excuse of not having enough time is non-sense. If your hobby is movies, you can schedule an extra hour in for the occasional 3 hour movie.
When I watched "The Godfather" for the first time, it was over two nights, and every bit of that emotion hit me. I can remember and lock back into an emotion pretty easily. I get your point, but watched with my wife and with two kids, we have very few three hour blocks we can devote to watching movies. We split up a lot of viewing experiences.
This movie has the beauty of his past movies, but little of the focus. That being, I still enjoyed how it basically said "fuck it" and swung for the fences.
I love just about every single film Brad Pitt has done and I love Margot Robbie. Great actors in this. But!…. This movie sucks! Pointless and the music is So Annoying! Coming in every 2 minutes. Exhausting! It’s all over the place. Had to stop it at 25 minutes. I hate it! Lol
I'm a fan of Damien Chazelle poor work, however I'm not interested in seeing an elephant take a dump on someone on camera and someone getting pissed on as well as people throwing up. In addition, the ending sounds extremely bleak. I want to be entertained not grossed outer depressed when I watch a movie, and I am someone who absolutely loves this period in Hollywood.
I meant to say prior not poor. Also, I'm all for director's cut or unedited editions, but in this case I wish the studio would release a version that cut out all the disgusting scenes as mentioned above yet still drives the point across of the decadence. I guess the ending would still have to be the same as it is already though. This is going to be a big lesson for studios in the future, where you just don't give a blank check to a film-maker. This is a case where studio intervention could have helped the film.

Who cares? Shawshank didn’t make any money in theaters. Conversely, Transformers made a billion dollars. Which is a better movie?

General Question: What do most people do with the information card that’s loose on steel books? How are people keeping them? They are such a pain…
I keep all of mine in a box for safe keeping.
I always put them in the protective slip I put my steelbooks in.
I watched it on Paramount +...liked it a lot but awfully long.
I really enjoyed it! The ending was a bit weak, but still think about it overall, a sign of a good movie.

Have you actually paid attention to Tarantino's directing? Tarantino couldn't direct 5 seconds of this movie if his life depended on it.

Sh** on, pis** on, first five minutes, then projectile vomiting. And the producers wonder why if fizzled at box office.
