More weight loss might make him less good in other aspects though - e.g. ITT’s and LBL might become more difficult for him. Right now he’s very impressive - take away those superhumans in front of him and he’s dominating the TdF -, but, unfortunately, he just doesn’t seem incredible enough to compete with those two (who might very well be the best GC-riders ever)

The one thing that has changed most is people with their phones out, taking pictures and not paying attention to where they are standing. 1min57 is not enough to say the TDF is finished.
What Pogacar did today was more tactical than other days, as today he stayed in VGG wheel (and not the other way around), which was a first since the beginning of this TDF.
They said this morning they wanted Adam Yates to win the stage. Even if Pogacar was cheeky/joking/smiling during this interview, it might have been true at some point. Then I think he saw a small opportunity, hoping for the best after jumping in Adam's wheel.
Tomorrow might be the first stage where we see if VGG is able to win this TDF (and if Pogacar will lose it).

@@paulschmidt3470 Yeah. Same tactics as yesterday (following instead of leading), and it paid quite well.
Some former riders think VGG planned his peak form for next week, I don't know what will happen or not.
The stage today seemed a bit harder on the UAE team (nobody really helped Pogacar today besides getting bidons), but at the same time VGG only had MJorgenson to make an impact in the final climb.
Stage 19 might be the only one left where VGG can get back time on Pogacar.
With 3min09 tonight, Pogacar is in a strong position to win this TDF.

After the race Adam Yates explained what happened.
He was talking to Poggi. Adam told Poggi that he felt good and could attack. Poggi told him (not the UAE team) if he felt good he should try to attack. Poggi waited to see the reaction of the other cyclists to Adam Yates' escape attempt. No one tried to close the gap to Adam and that was the signal for Poggi to try to attack 4.6 km before the finish line.
The key moment happened a few hundred meters before the mark (2km to the finish) when Poggi recovered to ride with Yates. Immediately after the 2 km mark, Poggi repeated his attack and increased his lead from 9 seconds to 39 seconds.
The role of Adam Yates was to try to attack and after that he helped a few hundred meters for Poggi to recover. That was the driver's tactic, not the UAE team's. The UAE team had a similar scenario but the drivers decided when and how to attack.

Yeah, I like both of them (though always find myself wanting Jonas to win a little more), but saying Pogi STOMPED Jonas today is a little over the top when it was a 39s lead that grew very slowly and steadily with no bonk from Jonas - won’t be totally surprised if we see Jonas do quite well tomorrow. 💥I have each climb profile on my tablet as I watch each stage and I saw at 7.6km and 4.6km the final climb ramped up to over 12% so I KNEW Pogi would attack at 4.6km and that is the EXACT place he attacked!!! How was Jonas and Visma not ready for that😳?! I'm not a professional nor am I a sports director but I can predict PRECISELY where Pogi will attack on EVERY STAGE!!! I've NOT been wrong one single time. It blows my mind that Jonas and VISMA are not more prepared for these attacks. It's like they had no idea they are coming!!! They not only need to be prepared for these attacks but Jonas needs to attack FIRST so the only explanation for me is that Jonas isn't capable of going on the attack. He's just doing his best to minimize his losses!!!
As for Remco, I said he would NOT podium and he dropped a position in the overall today. He's now in 3rd. You would think he's pretty safe in 3rd because the 2 closest riders to him are 3m 39s and 3m 47s down on him but I think he is going to crack in the final week. Maybe even tomorrow so I stand by my prediction that Remco will NOT podium😉

A few days ago Tadej tried another breakaway but Jonas caught him and out dueled Tadej to the line -- looked like the advantage was shifting towards Jonas. Today Tadej tried another jump and this time it worked and with nearly two minutes on Jonas the tour is in Tadej's hands. It's still not over as there are days left in the mountains and minutes can change hands quickly in the mountains. At this point, however, I'd say Tadej has a 75% chance of winning with Jonas being about 25%, but again, this could change in the coming week.

He's coming off a Giro and now in the Tour looks like he has energy to power an entire city. There is a reason why the Giro/Tour double has been so hard to win. We know that the last one to do it was doping. Slovenia has a bad history of doping so it would be a shame if he isn't clean.
