The R3x is one of the best looking new cars I’ve seen in a long time.

Feel like most established car companies run on hubris (see infotainment and their resistance to not allowing Apple to control it at first) not first principles or design. While I’d love to see car companies take some risks and embrace design I just don’t think there’s an appreciation or understanding of it at any major manufacturer. Hopefully many more upstarts will supplant the established players. Car design these days is so boring and bland. Everything looks the same and has no craftsmanship or personality. Concept cars is what they should be releasing. And don’t get me started on the buying experience. Why in 2024 do we need to negotiate a price on a new car?

You based in Orange County? Have you been to the Rivian Theater in Laguna Beach? Really really interesting marketing stunt/community project! An awesome marketing case study for someone like you!! We visited it during our recent research trip 😇
Also, imo, you can slow down your delivery in these long format videos - so the punch lines and thoughts land deeper! Just an observation from here… 💙
    Greetings from Denmark! ;-))

Yes I have actually, been right by there. Company is inescapable
I’ll try to slow down but we’ll see how it goes

@@orenmeetsworld I enjoyed your insights and points. You articulated many of the trends we're seeing in car design, product design, and design culture as a whole. You have a strong understanding of not only design but the social and cultural context surrounding it.
I do think the video delivery could be a bit slower, perhaps adding text title cards and/or more prominent photos or clips in between clips of you talking to aid/emphasize your points? Think of it as balancing "positive/negative space" to use a design analogy.
Car design, EV and otherwise, are starting to go really retro as of late: the VW ID.Buzz and Ford Bronco are a couple others that came to mind as well. It seems like design is responding to a need for identity and nostalgia for the past. For so long, I think the built environment, objects, and everything most of us consume and interact with had very little identity and personality. More generally, the social alienation we collectively seem to have felt before, and especially during, the pandemic likely has us craving that nostalgia and connection to the past that modern society and the rapid tech cycle had stripped away. From a cynical perspective, you could see it as a shallow applique of "identity washing" if you will. From a more positive perspective, maybe it marks a move away from the less grounded, more generic "fast fashion" approach that it seems we've been living with.

Doesn't much matter what They build if the cost goes above what the working Man makes..........My 24'forester touring has probably $10 grand tied up in stuff I do not want, but must pay for.............IE....electronic rear hatch.......Expensive, but slow and useless electric seats....Sunroof which I never open......And a ton of electronic Gizmos which take the pleasure of driving away from Me and then report to My ins. Co. on where and how I drive.......This spying needs to be outlawed like Yesterday...................................................................Paul

That Range Rover isn’t from the 2010’s… you’re approximately 40-50 years off. That shape is clearly from between 1970-1980

Now put a trunk on the R3 and we'd have a retro sedan that would get snapped up too!

I think we're seeing it in the paint styling too. That milky solid non-metallic 'thick' paint that came in a few years ago, after the matte trend. Worth mentioning is the special process red, and now blue in the Lexus line-up.
That Ford Freewheeling package is my dream truck, because it carries a nostalgia to my childhood. There are 3rd party supplier of that decal... as well as that spectacular Pontiac Firebird hood decal.

Slight correction, it's 'Alpha Motors', not 'Alpha Industries', which makes clothing.

RUclips suggestion algoriithm wins again. Great insights, thanks.
Have you seen the Toyoto EPU concept? There's so much value to be added with EV unibody designs. Deep beds for more cargo, long wheelbases to support overhanging loads, midgates for flexibility (there's opportunity for innovation here with weatherproofing and partial roof removal for tall loads), front-trunks for secure storage.

Really great points about Range Rover's design history. I believe more companies like Mercedes have a rich history that they can tap into even if it's purely for marketing purposes. I personally would love to see the design elements of BMW M1 make a comeback

I think the R in R3 stands for Rabbit. What I used to hate about concept cars is that it is a wow car and then we get an ugly piece of $hit with the same name. Unfortunately, once we transition to TAAS, cars like houses will be unaffordable and aesthetic vehicles will disappear from our streets except for the ultra-rich, think private jets.

The cybertruck literally is the future and Rivian gives us something from the freaking 70’s-80’s. Love the R2 but that R3 sucks.
