That is a good idea. First I will make all the kicking tutorials i have planned and then i can compare the styles of kicking with advantages and disadvantages for each style. Thank you :)
I were in kickboxing for years until i damaged my hips really hard. Your video is really nice and you can explain way better than my old master. Thanks for that lesson.
Ginger Ninja Trickster do you have any videos for home training exclusively I have two new punching bags one of them is a Taekwondo wavemaster and the other one is an XXL wavemaster I'm also looking to get a pad holding attachment that goes to my wavemaster so I can kick the pads since I'm training literally on my own can you give me some things I can do for at home only training
@@theredninja2817 you need to take classes. Having a teacher showing you is better and also telling you which exercise to do and progress you threw belts and stuff. Also there are other people there that you can spar with or share thoughts and stuff

I think that until my dad gives me the next piece of the jigsaw lol One thing i have realized teaching is there is always more to learn :) No problem, Glad it helped. Thank you :)
Thank you for saying that and for your appreciation :) If you as struggling with the knee positioning you can use a wall to eliminate balance out of the equation so you can solely focus on technique and strengthening the leg. I recently posted a tutorial on improving leg control and the stretching tutorials will help improve the height of the chamber too. Good luck with your training :)
Stretching out your toes and striking with your instep is efficient when it comes to longer range and point sparring but most people strike with their shin instead because it is more powerful and causes more damage. The ball of the foot is also used and penetrates into a target due to low surface area. It is usually the one used when breaking boards :)
I appreciate you saying that. Thank you :) Turning kick is the quick method of lifting up straight. That one is rarely used but a full turning or roundhouse is definitely used a lot in full contact due to the amount of force it can deliver. I will probably ad on to it in the future :)
Really appreciate you saying that. Thank you :) I have been training just over 8 years but have been doing this kick to a standard that I'm happy with a good few years ago. Good luck with your training :)
The fancy kicks I would never use due to the risk but the basic kicking techniques are effective, especially to the legs. Punches, palms, elbows, etc are also very useful and i've unfortunately had to use some of the techniques above in real fights so I know that they work
I mention the first point in the full turning kick more and touch on it in this one as this is mainly a light/semi contact kick. The full one is for light to full :) The second point is that it's a reaction hand and does increase the power of your kick. Your head is mainly protected by your shoulder on the kicking side and the common area where people get knocked out is the other side so that arm should be kept up guarding against attacks. Hope that helps and good luck :)
Depends if i have time but generally twice a week :) I have seen it and i know it can generate a lot of force from personal experience too but the full turning kick can cause so much more damage if it makes contact :)
If you're assisting you must know a few things so i would say be a bit more confident in yourself. If you're unsure you should ask your instructor as he will be more experienced than you and can help. One thing i would say and that has helped me is having an open mind, questioning why you do something eg. Why you jab before you throw the cross. Why you should parry on the outside, things like that. I like to say why it's more efficient that way so students have a good understanding. Good luck :)
Well the positives outweigh the negatives in my opinion and that's why nearly all martial artists prefer to have it as a reaction hand to create more power in the technique and then return to guard when the kick is completed.
That would be correct. Just look how people break boards with a turning kick . They go to the side at 45 degrees normally for a better angle and to hit with the ball of the foot, instead of catching their toes. So if you want to hit an opponent with the ball of your foot, you need to break the alignment when sparring. Hope that helps. No problem and thank you for your support :)
Never done Taekwondo at all. This was an easy and fun first kick to learn and I'm practicing it and I'm happy with it. Thanks for this, it helped me a lot! ;)
You can lift up straight and turn which is quicker but less powerful than the version that swings in due to the momentum created. This information and a lot more is in the tutorials already :)
Hey Ginger Ninja, Just wanted to say thanks a million for all the videos you've posted, they are absolutely awesome. You are very talented, but I'm sure a lot of it is down to your hard work. I started training when I was 7 and left Tae Kwon Do at 14 with a second dan black belt. I got into other martial arts and weight training after. In 2011 I had a serious spine injury from weightlifting which left me bed bound and unable to walk for 9 and half months. I took me 3 months to get walking again and through sheer determination, rehabilitated and back to training again. My rehabilitation consisted of the basic movements of Tae Kwon Do and I am now fully rehabilitated. I am now using your videos to help me get back to the condition I was in when I was 14. The stretching and kicking technique videos have really helped me progress. Hopefully I will be competing by summer time. Thank you for everything you've put up on RUclips and sharing your expertise. God bless you.
Of course it's not as powerful but it is quicker than bringing your leg back and swinging through. The extra motion creates more power but is slower. I recommend any double kicks keeping the leg up are done the quickest possible way which is from chamber. If you want power then bring the leg back down and spring back off the ball of the foot. Hope that helps and good luck :)
Work on abductors and hip flexors when you stretch. Leg control training and dynamic flexibility will also help. I have videos on Stretching and leg control so check those out if you have the time and i will be posting up a video on dynamic flexibility next week. Appreciate you saying that. Thank you :)
Well a side kick travels straight and a turning kick comes around. They target a completely different area of the body and use a different part of the foot for impact so I suggest you watch both tutorials on the kicks. Then go over the motion and pointers in both so they are completely distinguished from one another. Good luck :)
Maybe in the future but you have to try and keep your chamber up and not swing so it's easier to balance and more efficient when it comes to speed. Watch my tutorials on leg control if you are interested in getting a more efficient chamber. Good luck with your tournament :)
Well the turning kick comes around and targets the side of the body and the side kick travels straight, not around. I have tutorials on the side kick too so check it out and you will definitely see the difference. Hope that helps and good luck :)
No problem :) Well keep stretching/practicing and i'm sure you will be able to get there :) Yea that's effective too. As for it being more effective, that depends on the situation eg. If your long range then it's easier to take the front leg as it is closer to you. Hope that helps :)
Depends what you are breaking with. Whatever you break with you condition by hitting harder equipment (Sand Bag) and when your used to that even harder things. Start kicking soft and when you are ready a little harder. Good luck :)
Outside you wouldn't but this is a sparring (sport) version for light to semi contact because it's quicker than coming around.so you have more chance of scoring your points :)
The kick I'm talking about is very similar to the round kick you do here in that it differs in chambering from a traditional roundhouse kick. I kinda consider this my signature strike and I've personally used it to great success in full contact. One of the reasons it is so dangerous is that it is chambered like a front kick which draws the opponents guard down. At the last minute the kip turns over and the round kick comes almost over and down onside the opponents guard.
First of all, I wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. They are the most comprehensive and helpful tutorials I've found and I keep going back to them for pointers as I practice. I hope you keep doing these. I've noticed they seem focused on kicks, though, so I was wondering if you also have a series on the blocks, hand strikes or defensive moves for TKD. My daughter and I are just starting out in martial arts and need all the help we can get on the basics. BTW, the tricking videos are awesome, too. I'd love to be able to do some of the things you do. Any tutorials for that coming? Thanks again. Keep up the great work.
Both are effective for different reasons as i say at the beginning of this video. Knee up straight and turning as you kick is faster but swinging creates more momentum so you have more power from the kick. Hope that helps and good luck :) Or are you on about the side turning kick which attacks an opponent head on?
I watch lots of martial arts tutorials across a range of styles and yours are some of the clearest with the best technical explanations both in terms of how a technique is done, but also why to use one technique over another (A lot of instructors miss out the "Why?" Well done mate!
this is so helpful! even after my instructor explained and demonstrated this to me I was still unsure and this was very useful! thanks for the upload! I still think your videos helped me pass my most recent grading to become a black stripe!!! 😁
Dude this is an awesome tutorial. I just started practicing kicks on my own earlier and wants start lessons soon. Not quite sure which route to take (Karate, Kung Fu, etc).
cadkls I’ll strongly consider going that route. I’m very engrained in Thai culture (wife is Thai, I speak, read and write Thai at a lower-intermediate level), so Muay Thai would make the most sense in that respect. Thank you
I mainly say it out of consideration for the effectiveness of the style, I personally train kickboxing and taekwondo and ice found that I can get far more power out of my techniques using the muay thai version of that technique, particularly the roundhouse. My maintain though is to train primarily in either kickboxing or muay thai and kind of flavour it up a bit with other styles. I'm just such a pussy when it comes to joining a new gym lol
cadkls Thanks for the advice. I’m brand new at all of this, and I don’t know how serious I’ll get with it but I enjoy the training. (I’m primarily a metal musician / songwriter). Is there any home equipment you recommend for training, like specific bags?
Jason Stallworth Best thing is just do your research, whatever style you want to do, make sure its effective, try find street fights that feature it, compare it against over styles etc. Worst thing is training a poor style for years, getting into a street fight and getting put on your ass because the style didn't work for the street, some styles to avoid as a primary style : aikido, wing chun, tai chi, ninjitsu, Krav maga (it can work but I have yet to see evidence of that anywhere on the internet) Also sparring is a must. If they don't spar, don't go. Sparring us absolutely essential (I found out the hard way lol when I had no concept of timing, application of techniques, application combos, how to counter properly, hitting a moving and resisting target etc). But yeah, just do your homework on the style, training methods, location, price etc because it really is important to get it right since your and your family's/friend's safety depend(s) on it. No pressure...

It's commonly called either Dan or Degree. It makes no difference, the rank is the same, it's just a different word to use and what peoples preferences are.
Excellent tutorial... this is one of my favorite kicks to use in full contact sparring. You mention that the turning kick is not often used in full contact. I would actually disagree. Doing this kick and kicking in an almost downward motion has proved very sucfessful in Kyokushinkai full contact as well as K-1 kickboxing with brazillian fighters like Glaube Feitosa and Fransisco Fihlo. I would love to see you add onto this video showing that technique. Keep up the good work!
Yea but you need to know both to understand the differences and the advantages/disadvantage each method has :) As long as your knee turns and it's not rising upwards :) No problem and good luck with your training :)
Hi Aaron, could you elaborate on when to use the ball of the foot when throwing this kick? I find that if you're directly in front of your opponent, there's a good chance you'll stub your toes unless you rotate your hips less and consequently sacrifice power. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for all the great videos.
Anyways bro... excellent, excellent videos. I'm in my mid 20's and it looks like you are around the same (i'm a guy but for some reason im posting on my roomates name). I wish there was something like this on youtube when I was growing up (youtube didnt exist then). So your doing a really excellent thing by providing proper, quality instruction to people. Thanks I was actually just asking about the turning kick alone not the full turning kick. Which you helped me out allot by the way. As long as you're not preforming infront of judges is that acceptable? Lifting up at a frontal 45° angle then turning that hip over at the last second? Thanks in advance and sry to ask so many questions here :)
I'm trying to improve this kick leading up to my Black Belt grading. My primary issue is that my knee tends to point downward when I kick making for a slow and sloppy looking kick, Is there any technical aspects or stretches you recommend I work on? Loved the video by the way!
I love your videos. It would be great if you could upload videos training with focus mitts kick boxing/tkd comination using hands and feet.Congratulation, you are making a great job
unless you strike with the ball of the foot. i find that better then using instep as it stings a little when hitting pads and targets and no gear sparring. but when we do hard sparring we get told to use ball of the foot
Aaron, can you make a tutorial of a spinning side kick?, that's the one i'm having trouble because i cannot hit the target, i keep landing the side kick next to the target and no at the target itself. If i perform the spin back kick i do it right. Thank you man.
GingerNinjaTrickster...thanks for making the videos on kicking tutorials...and other great videos...i learn alot from those videos and yeah...i improve my basics haha...you deserve more subscribers btw hahah...
This is a great tutorial, thank you very much. However I have a question if you can help please: I have started training kick-boxing recently and still finding difficulty to perform roundkicks smoothly, apllying "step 2" for instance from your 3 steps tutorial is still hard for me (can't keep my leg up), is it a problem of muscle strength or flexibility or weight (am a little overweight)? What do you recommend? thank you again for the great channel
Hello! I have a question. My instructor taught me to point my knee at the target, but my old instructor taught me like you do in the video. I'm not sure which is more effective. Since I came from a different organization to the ATA it's odd to do certain kicks. i'm more interested in this one though. Thanks!
what do you prefer to use during the turning kick the ball of the foot or the instep ? i use the ball of the foot during sparring and kicking pads but i'd like to use the ball of my foot in full contact
Thanks for the tips! it's amazing! I've never thought that i have to pivot my base leg to kick well... after i pivot it, my kick becomes a lot harder and looks really good :D
thanks a lot, thats exactly how i've been practicing & except that i don't reach it out upto a 6ft. guys head,to an that extent i can reach is upto the ribs :/,by the way my best friend who's a black belt 2nd dan in karate teaches me to strike the roundhouse on the opponents rear thighs or kidney section,is it more effective there?
nice tutorial im now in karate at brown belt, looking for this tutorial for another knowledge. looking great 😀.. im lucky that i've found ur video.. i like how u speak.. keep it up man 😀

Can you make a video on kicking drills for truck drivers to workout on developing strength to hold their leg up. No time for martial arts schools but a basic type of workout would be great. Wish you had an app I’d pay for it . Or even a 30 day challenge . Anyway your awesome and I enjoyed your appearance on fight tips with Shane Fazen. Thanks

Nice video again :L I am about to turn 16 and start my assisting teaching, do you have any tips on specific knowledge to learn about patterns, etc
I am having trouble on the double round kick and my tournament is coming up. Can you make a video in that? If not then can you offer some advice?
Damn! I thought i knew the ins and outs of a round kick....Guess i was wrong. Thanks for the extra info man!
Ouside fighing - Neither, I prefer the shin. It causes more damage
Sparring - the instep for range
Good luck :)
I love your videos. It would be great if you could upload videos training with focus mitts kick boxing/tkd comination using hands and feet.Congratulation, you are making a great job
:D This'll help me pass my grading. Thanks!
Awesome and No problem :)
i was shocked after seeing your channel key words bro
unless you strike with the ball of the foot. i find that better then using instep as it stings a little when hitting pads and targets and no gear sparring. but when we do hard sparring we get told to use ball of the foot
Great video !! Have you any on stretching ?
Thank you! This will help if me and my friends get in a fight again with another group we come across when we go to the store.
No problem :)
What do you recommend? thank you again for the great channel
good tips in kicking esp that I"m now in Brown belt black tip
Great tutorial
Thanks for the video!
No problem :)
Thanks for the tips! it's amazing!
I've never thought that i have to pivot my base leg to kick well... after i pivot it, my kick becomes a lot harder and looks really good :D
Michael Timothy Ferrari Lukman No problem, i'm glad it helped :)
thanks a lot, thats exactly how i've been practicing & except that i don't reach it out upto a 6ft. guys head,to an that extent i can reach is upto the ribs :/,by the way my best friend who's a black belt 2nd dan in karate teaches me to strike the roundhouse on the opponents rear thighs or kidney section,is it more effective there?
Hey its me again. So instead of bringing you're kicking leg straight up, can you bring it up at a 45° angle?
thanks for sharing this video. great video
+Marilukastilyo No problem, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) :)

Thank you. I appreciate you saying that and i will do my best to :)
Hey,
The snapping of my re-chamber and kicking is slow for my roundhouse... any ideas on house to make it stay faster and smoother. I'm 6'5" 200lbs decent flexibility.
Thanks
Can you make a scorpion kick tutorial like the one in clay guida vs erich koch
Can the partial turning kick be used in 3:32 defense
