    dont know why those not related to TKD are watching but this is really helpful. TKD for me is a sport, stretches your legs and help me against untrained attackers but i dont expect it to be very useful in MMA. There are better alternatives yes but those who take it as a sport than bashing people up, you're looking at the right martial art unless its old TKD, they're crazy

    Didn't see what I was hoping to find. I had a Korean 6th dan instructor in ~1988 whose name was Seung-Yong (sp?) Park. He received his training at the S Korea military academy and was getting a college degree in the U.S. He was always very humble, with a wife and 2 (3?) young kids at the time. He was trying to get the beginner class (white/yellow belt) to try an advanced kick and everyone became disgruntled. So he proved it could be done. The way I remember it, it was a spinning jump crescent with the right leg, immediately followed by an axe kick, before either foot landed. Cool guy, wish I hadn't lost his mailing address.

    Re street fighting application, Good technique and drills for point scoring, all these kicks can be trained in this form and in a fuller form where you go right through the target, we trained turning and reverse turns to return full 360, but when you connect that force goes into the target, I've trained with guys in TKD that had so much speed and power even at 60kg, that they could drop most streefighters with one or two low or midsection kicks before they could even say "what are you looking at" I trained judo then tae kwon do, practiced some techniques from Muay Thai, some kali, grappling, and submission techniques and tai chi, and weigh 90kg, but I wouldn't get into a street fight unless it was absolutely necessary, I've backed away from guys who have been in my face challenging me that I knew for a fact were wide open to being knocked out with one strike. Jack of all trades, master of one (or two) is the way to go for self defence I reckon, if you've trained for a long time you'll have confidence (not overconfidence which is a compensation for fear and insecurity) in your ability you carry yourself in a particular way, and with an awareness of surroundings and are able to pick up on the subtle vibes in situations usually long before they escalate and remove yourself and those you care for from the environment, and you don't have to lash out, freeze or crumble out of fear if confronted; that gets you out of 95% of potential situations on the street, most street fighters are bullies looking for easy wins and can sense fear, you do get some crazies who just can't be reasoned with or wont give it up though, you can't always avoid it. But if your looking for trouble at some level, it will almost certainly find you. No matter how good you think you are, if there is a blade or a group involved there is a good chance you will lose, so avoiding situations where possible is the best option.

    Cut down kick is called an axe kick, and reverse kick is also called a hook kick. Combo at 3:07 is like a combo of partially a skipping font snap, and a axe kick. Sorry, this was confusing me, I only saw reversed hook kicks, but then I saw that there was a front hook too. It's weird how this sport actually originated in Kaisong/Kaesong in North Korea. 540 kick looks hard, but if they can do it, with enough practice, it would be nothing.

    TKD is more than just kicks. It has as much hand strikes and blocks as Karate...well it did come from Shotokan

    • @adandyguyinspace5783
      @adandyguyinspace5783 5 лет назад +1

      @partisan No it didn't. The Korean government's origin story of TKD isn't true. TKD was developed from general Choi Hong Hi, he studied Shotokan Karate. When you look at the hand strikes and blocks of Shotokan Karate and compare them to non-olympic TKD, you'll see that most of them are the same.

      Some schools are also derived from Okinawan Karate as well (like Goju-Ryu), but yeah for the most part, the traditional style is from Japanese arts and a little bit of Northern Chinese Kung Fu.

    For all the people on this page complaining about no hand defense in tkd, there are. If you haven't taken tkd how would you know what is taught. So stop bitching and underestimating tkd, that's why ppl usually lose fights. It's about technique and situation you're in. Btw I'm a tkd user, we learn elbow, chops, and knee strikes.

    • @RayyanKhanRayyanKhan
      @RayyanKhanRayyanKhan 9 лет назад

      Never heard of a knee strike in tkd. We do knife hand strikes, blocks (upper,lower,inner,outer) and lunches.

      Not to be a jerk by saying this but blocking with your arms won't do much good, in certain situations you could get some serious broken bones from that. It's probably not a good idea to use ur elbow in a fight either, might break just as easily.

    • @kocbilo
      @kocbilo 4 года назад +3

      You will get your ass kicked in a second, believe me. If you really want to do something that helps you in any way on the street then consider learning MMA or Krav Maga. Anything else is useless and only fancy dancing. Especially Wing Chun. All the deflecting and "use your opponents force against him" and other fancy stuff doesn't work on the street or if you really have to defend yourself. People on the street don't act like you would expect them. I have experience in Boxing, Thai Boxing, TKD and some Tai Chi Quan. You need good upper body work which comes from Boxing, leg work from Thai Boxing/TKD and also some grappling which you can get from MMA. You need to know how to free yourself from certain positions or just choke the fuck out of the aggressor on the floor. Forget about Wing Chun before you waste a lot of time for it.
